Yum...a nice scent of grapefruity and cherry snuck up from the bottle when I popped this brew open.
The appearance is very pleasant..definately a thick, black stout hue. The lacey head is rather pretty as the bubbles dance along the side of the glass.
The real win is the sweet, mocha latte feel...with a hint of molasses. This concotion is very forward and upfront with its stoutiness. There is also a lingering underscore of burnt caramel...a creme brulee tinge that mingles warmly amongst the backdrop of the espresso-like foundation.
It's a "Ruebenesque" brew for sure. The creaminess and sweetness makes it a good candidate for an after-dinner drink as well as a dessert. The Anderson Valley Brewing Co. actually suggest this on the back label and I must agree.
A great catch from Mendocino County.
