12oz brown bottle with no freshness dating. Served in a mug.
Pours almost opaque black in color with a decent sized, creamy, light brown head. The head is mostly diminishing and left spotty lace. This brew looks very dense. The nose is mostly of roasted, somewhat sweet malt with notes of coffee and milk chocolate. I also picked up a more faint floral/herbal hop aroma and a discernible earthiness. Flavor is rich but smooth with the semi-sweet, roasted malts in the foreground with hints of oats, cocoa/mocha, and a light herbal hop bittering. Mouthfeel is medium to full body with a smooth, slightly dry texture and lively carbonation.
I liked this brew. It is a very solid example of the style and extremely easy to consume. It has a good depth to the flavor and is appropriately balanced toward the malts. I would certainly welcome another.
