Dark amber and copper color produced a good 1/2" head on it, average retention, almost no lace. Aroma was very bitter, but one dimensional hop aroma conveying bitterness more than anything else, some caramel along the way.

Taste and mouthfeel came through with a substantial amount of syrupy, thick, caramel bittersweetness. I wouldn't drink too many ipa's you've never had after this beer, your palate will be fatigued or compromised regarding bitterness. The malt beer is rather heavy, so the bitterness standing out so much is a tad bit of a surprise. Seems like they're still using the old school hops. Very resiny, I'm guessing Cascade, Centennial & Chinook.

This one was kind of middle of the roadish for a double ipa. Anderson Valley was a great brewery back in the 90s, but everything they have been releasing lately tells me they are like an aging prize fighter, never to recapture their past glory.

This one just lacks flavor, its mostly bitterness and some malt heft, which somehow doesn't really absorb the alcohol or bitterness all that well.

Single IPA way better. At this strength, some flavors would be cool beyond bitterness. Pretty much your average, or slightly better than average dipa.

General: Found this at Costco for a good price. I have never had this DIPA but in general i have some pretty good experiences with some of the other Anderson Valley brews so I figured I'd give it a shot. Poured this into my Deschutes Teku glass for this review.

Appearance: Great copper color with a nice off white head. The head is thick and white and comprised of almost exclusively tiny bubbles like foam. This is crystal clear also, very nice appearance in general.

Aroma: The aroma is big and hoppy with mostly pine with hits of grassiness. There is also a big alcohol aroma to this. This is a "classic" west coast style with the pine aroma and not the citrus hits.

Mouthfeel: The mouthfeel is moderate with a bitterness on the back end. It's astringent on from all the bitterness, there is a upper end amount of carbonation. Pretty good mouthfeel

Taste: This is a pretty good DIPA. It's a nice flavor but a bit too bitter for me. Even considering this is a DIPA, it seems more bitter than other DIPAs that I've had recently.

Overall: In general this is a pretty good beer, a little bit too boozy and a touch too bitter. This isn't that bad, just not a favorite for me. It's a kick back to the past with this traditional west coast DIPA flavor!!!

12 ounce bottle from Brews Bros.

Light orange / Nice looking beer with a nice thick head.

Smell was very nice...citrus, malty maybe, a little hoppy.

Taste - pretty heavy on the hops, rather bitter at the end. If I want bitter, I'd go chew on some aspirin.

Not too much of a body at all.

Overall, too hoppy/bitter for me, and too little of a body.
