Poured into a snifter.
3.25 A: Black color. Just under one finger of frothy light brown head formed, but it fell quite quickly.
3.75 S: The nose on this is very nice, but the focus is definitely on the bourbon instead of the beer. The base offers modest amounts of roastiness, chocolate, and caramel with a touch of ash and butter. The bourbon is leathery, but clean without any sharpness. Touch of nondescript fruitiness, oak, vanilla, and perhaps a hair of peat.
3.25 T: Taste also features the bourbon. Pretty much tastes like the nose, except that the base beer is even more muted. On the drier side without much complexity.
3.0 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. This is really lacking in body and creaminess. It's not bad, it just isn't good either.
3.25 D: It's worth a try I guess, but it's not something worth revisiting.

Pours and off very very deep opaquer brown with creamy tan head that held well. Thin collar. Aroma is some dark chocolate, vanilla and caramel sweetness. Taste is much the same with no noticeable bourbon or oak presence until the very end. Creamy mouthfeel with low carbonation and a body just on the thin side of thick.

Appearance: black in color, 3/4 inch head, low carbonation, opaque
Smell: light chocolate and roasted malt
Taste: oak, chocolate, toffee, cocoa--a bit of Tootsie Roll taste
Mouthfeel: moderate carbonation, heavy body, sweet with oakiness
Overall: I was impressed with the oakiness of this beer at first, but unfortunately the taste did not carry all the way through this beer. It was still strong enough, but I wish the flavor was a bit stronger. Still I would get this one again if I saw it on tap. Not quite what I would call good, but certainly one of the better brews from Anderdon Valley.
