2 full fingers of cocoa head rise up and sizzle, pretty dark brew with some signs of life simmering to the surface, lacing is spotty, this looks nice for about a minute but then the head retreats, not bad
wow, really strong boozy vanilla notes, almost in the vanilla extract zone, melted caramel (more specifically those little kraft caramel squares I loved as a tyke), some dry cocoa powder hiding underneath as well, wondrous!
pretty smooth, no overwhelming flavors, subtle vanilla finish, this drinks boozier than the ABV would suggest (is this just a jedi mind trick?), weight wise this is medium heavy and satisfies in that department, this is easy to drink but... something is missing
the barrel treatment is obvious but there is no there there, meaning there is no depth here, just kind of falls flat. is it bad ? no, not by any means, and in fact this might be great with certain food pairings but overall it seems lacking

Pours and off very very deep opaquer brown with creamy tan head that held well. Thin collar. Aroma is some dark chocolate, vanilla and caramel sweetness. Taste is much the same with no noticeable bourbon or oak presence until the very end. Creamy mouthfeel with low carbonation and a body just on the thin side of thick.

Appearance: black in color, 3/4 inch head, low carbonation, opaque
Smell: light chocolate and roasted malt
Taste: oak, chocolate, toffee, cocoa--a bit of Tootsie Roll taste
Mouthfeel: moderate carbonation, heavy body, sweet with oakiness
Overall: I was impressed with the oakiness of this beer at first, but unfortunately the taste did not carry all the way through this beer. It was still strong enough, but I wish the flavor was a bit stronger. Still I would get this one again if I saw it on tap. Not quite what I would call good, but certainly one of the better brews from Anderdon Valley.
