Got some of this up at the Split Rock festival in 2010. It poured out as a nice looking clear amber color with a decent cream colored head on top. The smell of the beer didn't really give off much hop aroma to me, it actually smells more sweet and even a little herbal in my opinion. The taste of the beer reminded me a little bit of DfH's Midas Touch... Not what I expected at all from this brew for sure. The mouthfeel was a little on the watery side. Overall it's wasn't a bad brew, I would probably drink it again.

A-Deep, dark copper with a medium tan head that reduced to a thin cap and left spotty lace.

S-Toffee and caramel malt with a touch of spicy citrus hops. Aroma is quite light overall.

T-Spicy orange kissed deep caramel and toffee malt. A building spiciness ends in a dry finish. Amazingly tasty compared to the aroma.

M-Medium body with good lasting bitterness and a lightly sweet toffee bite.

D-Solid stuff. A touch more hop kick and this could be REALLY good. As it is, I find this to be a well made, flavourful brew.

On tap at Elmer Sudds on 2/5/10.

A - Dark amber with rusty copper hues and half an inch of creamy beige head that receded to a thin veil and ring of thick, even lacing around the glass.

S - Initial aroma is quite grainy with toasted barley notes and a hint of burnt caramel sweetness. Hop character is also present, though more subtle than the malt presence, and suggests earthy, herbal and grassy notes.

T - Hops appear to be a bit more promiment in the flavor profile, with a liberal dose of herbal notes, which impart a sharp bitter character. However, the bitterness is balanced by plenty of toasted grainy notes and a hint of sweet caramel. Distinct woody notes emerge as it warmed up a bit, and the caramel malt became more prevalent. Finishes with a moderate herbal hop bite.

M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation offering a bit of prickle on the tongue. Mouthfeel is a tad sticky with a slight chewy character. Finishes with moderate bitterness on the palate.

D - Solid representation of a flagship brew, and also my first offering from this coal-centric brewery. I've been wanting to try some of Breaker's brews for a while now, especially since I am a "Coal Cracker" at heart. Anthracite Ale is a fine amber ale with an distinct hop presence.

Had it on-tap at Elmer Sudds earlier this week. Deep copper color with a bit of a head. Aroma of pine and hops. Very balanced taste, not a hoppy as I was expecting/hoping for. Smooth finish, easy drinking, would make an excellent session beer. My favorite of the 4 Breaker beers that were on tap.

Had this on tap at Elmer-Sudds at their debut. Poured a somewhat murky dark copper color, pretty dark for a pale/amber ale actually. Not much in the way of lace. They described this as between a pale ale and an IPA, but I'd say it was pretty much like a moderately hopped pale ale. Bready and decent piney/earthy hop aroma, and likewise in the taste, plus some caramel malt sweetness. 55 ibu's but drank like less, with very modest bitterness. Medium bodied and appropriately carbonated. I thought this was pretty decent but to really fit their description of being between a pale and an IPA I'd like to see it hopped up a bit more. A pretty good, easy drinking brew, but a few tweaks could really improve it imo.

On tap at Elmer Sudds during their NEPA draft debut. Served in a shaker "pint" glass. Appears a cloudy color akin to fresh brewed iced tea with a finger of ecru foam. No lacing to speak of. Smells and tastes of bread, caramel malt, lemon, pine, touch of sourdough bread, A notch above medium in both body and carbonation. Pleasant, smooth, bitter finish. My favorite of the four initial offerings from Breaker Brewing. I'll update my review as the recipe is tweaked.
