Warning: Jersey Wines & Liquors has no qualms about selling you really old beer. I've now had two experiences where I've mistakenly bought year-old seasonal beer that they put out on the shelf in a blatant attempt to move old product. Earlier this year they sold me SN Glissade from 2010, not the 2011 vintage. I had seen 2010 Glissade on the shelf for months, but this was in the fridge, so they clearly put it back in the fridge when the 2011 Glissade was on the market. I brought it back, and they gave me a refund, but I barely even got an apology.

Recently, I made an even bigger mistake, buying a bomber of Harpoon Glacier Harvest Wet Hop Ale from 2010. Seriously? Trying to pass along a year old wet hop ale??? I mean, sure, shame on me for not paying close attention, but really? It's just offensive.

Let's just say that this is a pretty small store. That being said it has a decent selection of product. Much larger than anywhere else in the area (not including bars or the massive Jersey City Buy Rite). That being said unless you live in the area or are stuck in the middle of Jersey City or make a transfer at the Grove Street Path, there is no need to go out of your way to this store. It has good 22 oz/750 ml selections like Dogfish Head, Rogue, Troegs, Blue Point, Flying Fish, Launitas, etc. Rather decent cooler of 6 packs as well including Long Trail, Anchor Steam, Sam Adams, etc. But as you can see these are all available in many locations throughout New Jersey. Prices were quite fair value. Didn't interact with the staff but they didn't engage me either, so I can't speak to that. The wine selection is rather large and the 3 people working (one may have been a wine merchant) were tasting wine so they may be leaning towards becoming more wine focused. FYI - The new name is Liberty Harbor Wine Merchants as well.

So, with the huge snowstorm that hit the East coast, I was looking for somewhere within walking distance. This place is awesome and I wish I knew about it earlier. It is kind of a hidden gem and I'm not sure why more people haven't reviewed this place.

The store is quite small, but it is packed with product. I was squeezing through the warm beer shelving and the cooler and someone who was very knowledgeable with beer had offered his assistance. He told me about some offerings that weren't on the shelf, like some Sinking the Bismark, Tactile Nuclear Penguin, and DFH My Antonia. I also found stuff that I haven't seen at Super Buy Rite(which is about 15 times the size), like New Holland, Founders(Breakfast Stout), and Firestone Walker(14th Anniversary). What they lack in size, they make up for in what they have on the shelves, by having some pretty amazing stuff, like Rodenbach 2007 Vintage Oak Aged Ale.

If you are in JC and near the Grove St. PATH, you cannot pass this place up. Just save some beer for me. :-)

A small store, with an impressive selection, size doesn't always matter. Found some harder to get brews here (Founders Devil Dancer, Dogfish Head Theobroma, Peche Mortal) Along with all of the other craft offerings you would expect to find at a better store store. Located a few blocks from the PATH. Great little find in the area. Pretty decent sized wine selection if that is your fancy, actually come to think of it, most of the store is wine so it is surprising how impressive the beer selection is. Prices are also very reasonable, as the last poster noted the price of Dogfish Head WWS and 120min, all six packs are under $10 and within in range of fair prices. Pretty diverse 6-pack and 750ml selection. The staff didn't seem the most knowlegable in the beer department, but thats ok because I usually know what I'm looking for

They have an extensive selection of American craft brews kept in good condition. The establishment isn't too warm and they don't do silly things like display their best beer right above the refrigerator units - it gets really hot up there from the flourescent lights and the exhaust from the cooling system.

I've seen bottles (12oz) of 120-Minute IPA from Dogfish for $7.99. In the store next to me, it was $10. They have Unibroue, Petrus, a small Belgian selection - but you go there for the American ales!

The service is pretty good. There's usually one person on hand who knows enough about beer to guide a neophyte, but you aren't going to get more than that.

They also have a nice selection of wines from around the world. I would use them for any wine vs. beer dinners. They deliver in Jersey. They aren't too far from the Path Station at Grove Street, so it's pretty easy to get to them and well worth it.

If you ever go on a Sunday chances are I'll see you by the beers!

They sell Allagash Confluence for $20.00 and they have DogFish Theobroma for $12 +/- both in 750mL bottles.
