A: On nitro tap at the brew pub. Pours with a very tight tan one finger head, good lacing and a nice dark brown body.
S: The bourbon comes through right away. Followed by some very nice roasty, malty and nutty scents.
T: The bourbon is up front once again. Backed up by some great nutty, caramel and roasted malt flavors. The bourbon dominates but does not overpower by any means.
M: Very smooth with light carbonation. Perfect.
D: Very good this is a very complex brew, but it goes down like water. Overall, one of the best porters that I have ever had . Well done.

On tap (nitro) at Capone's Restaurant. Kudos for going out and getting this kind on thing.Decent enough nitro beer, big and creamy leaving a lace sheet. Slight coffee aroma. Dark brown. Decent drinkability. The barrel may have rounded out the flavour even more than the nitro. Any bourbon was hidden. Let me try this in the bottle.

By far the best porter I've ever tried.
It really doesn't get any better than this.
The fact that I tried this fresh out of the keg a few miles from Shawnee may have helped the taste and freshness.
This porter has magnificent coloring and head. We drank it in 10 ounce glasses.
Smell was inviting but not sour or alcoholic laden in any way.
Taste was magnificent. Perfectly balanced, not too strong. Shawnee has a very specific yeast taste to all of their products, but it was tame in this one, perhaps because of the barrel aging process.
I would recommend anyone who is a fan of lighter stouts or porters to check this out, preferably on draft.
My friend who is a huge fan of stouts tried this once and was hooked. He said it was the best beer he'd ever tried in his entire life.

Cask at d.b.a., Brooklyn, NY
A: The beer is rather dark amber in color and has lacy patterns of bubbles covering the surface.
S: There are notes of bourbon in the aroma.
T: Unlike the smell, the bourbon flavors are rather strong, but not overpowering. There are also notes of oak. Overall, there is a good balance among the flavors.
M: The beer feels very smooth on the palate and has just a slight amount of carbonation.
D: The beer is easy to drink because the alcohol is well masked.

On nitro at House of 1000 Beers in New Kensington, PA.
Poured into a vase: Half-finger khaki, smooth head. Black body with highlights like maple syrup, heavy lacing.
Smells of nutty malt, mila cocoa, a little bourbon-vanilla note.
Tastes of vanilla, a little dark fruit & milk chocolate with a sharp booze note that smooths out & turns woody, oaky. Overwhelms just a bit, roasty bitterness grows & hangs on through the aftertaste.
Smooth but on the thin side, creamy at the same time.
Not bad, almost out of balance. Would like to try it without the nitro. Booze teeters on unwieldy.

First had: on nitro at Capone's, Norristown, PA
Poured an opaque brown-black with a creamy tan head; moderate retention, minimal lacing. Aroma of roasty dark malts and a bit of cocoa. Taste of roast and peat mainly, cocoa flavors coming in mid-palate; not much in the way of bourbon, other than a tingly bite in the finish, though at 6.5%ABV (which is what it was listed as at the bar) there wasn't much booze to be had here. Good for the drinkability, but detracted a bit from the overall taste. Pretty smooth, medium body, not very full in mouthfeel or taste, but still pretty decent overall.

The tap list says 10.5 abv....
A - Darkest brown, nearly black body with a quarter inch latte like cap of head that lasts for some time.
S - Very strong vanilla aroma, almost a vanilla icing. Slightest but of malty ness Nd roast, maybe the faintest bourbon.
T - Vanilla cream icing that you put on a cake for sure. There's a ending bite of bourbon and slight heat you'd expect from it. But the vanilla icing is delicious. The bourbon is actually balancing the sweetness.
M - Medium, smooth bodied porter with mid to low carbonation. Could be a little fuller in the body that would make this richer, but it drinks well as is.
O - A very tasty, balanced porter. The bourbon provides more of a balancing act than adding the bourbon flavor we all know and love. I'm curious to know if this was a vanilla porter or what barrels they used.
