Muted nose. Malty and hoppy mix on first taste. Bitter mid palette (too bitter) but gives way to malty finish. Hazy tan color.

Nice balance of malt and hops, which are quite bitter. Nose is underwelming considering how hoppy it is. In a 16 oz can and fresh. Satisfying in this heat.

Poured from the can into a Spiegelau IPA glass. No obvious can dating.
Dull lemon colored body, with a bit light tan brown edge and a slightly hazy appearance. Head creation makes a simple three fingers, off white and pill lacing while settling down to a half finger puck.
Neat aroma. Big marmalade notes and hints of earth, but the fruity character has an almost wine gum like aroma and candy flavor. Really impressed by this, as it doesn't come off like anything I've had before on the nose. Love that juicy wine gum quality particularly.
Palate is a bit… unexpected. Very neutral flavors. A solid malt backbone manages to carry and support leaving syrup and wet mouthfeel behind. Mid palate flavors are a bit muted and almost non existent. Mild chewing gum without the sweetness a little bit of leafy green flavors as well, seriously is that chicle?? Finish is more hinting of leafy garden green herbs, and hits with a more interesting hop angle that falters between tea and a stevia like sweetness but not as large on the sweetness angle.
There's a quality in here that's spectacular but the supporting cast is just not getting the job done. Drinkable, and ironically very memorable, but somehow something special here is just not getting it's due.

It has been a good day to get The CANQuest (tm) back on track after a CANbined review hiatus and a bottle detour. I am very curious to finally try this one.
From the CAN: "Old-World IPA brewed with Magnum, Columbus, and East Kent Golding Hops"; "Our Double Pale Ale recipe is inspired by old-world IPAs. Copiously hopped with a blend of English and Ameri[CAN] varieties, Double Pale boasts that fine wallop of hops that craft-beer lovers have come to expect, and maintains a complex balance between bitterness, malt, and alcohol. We think you will find its floral aroma, its hoppy bite, and its high gravity to be a truly satisfying experience."; "In Artem Fidelis".
I Crack!ed it open, but after having read some previous reviews that mentioned floaties, I decided to employ a very gentle Glug. It worked in that I got a glass filled with a lightly-hazy, Amber-colored (SRM = > 7, < 9) beer without floaties. It required a vigorous in-glass swirl, however, to raise a brief finger of fizzy, tawny head with low retention. Nose was very earthy, like someone had been recently gardening, along with a lemony tartness that may have been from the malt. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, big for the style. The taste was more bitter than I had expected. The earthiness of the E.K.G. hops was being overshadowed by the Magnum & Columbus hops to create a depth of flavor that usually does not exist in the style. It was much more bitter than the typical EIPA, but I liked it since I prefer AIPAs to EIPAs. Finish had a breadiness that made me wonder what malt(s) had been used. It was kind of an odd beer, but certainly drinkable.

Served around 55 degrees or so out of the 500 mL bottle. Pours up a lightly hazed yellow-orange with a pale white, loose head. A few floaters attract carbonation bubbles. Aromas of bready malt and a significant hop profile. Rather astringent, with significant malt sweetness to counterbalance. Some lemon rind flavors, a bit of yeastiness comes through, too. Double Pale Ale... IPA... I can't discern the difference. Mouthfeel is good with a certain silkiness upon swallowing, finishing sweet, only slightly dry. A fine effort.
Carefully pour this one, lots of chunkies during second pour, changed appearance because it looks like a hefeweizen now.
