Petaluma Market is a higher-end grocery store with a pretty nice beer selection. There's a good variety of singles, with a lot of stuff from Northern California. They also have a few imports and some large-format Belgian offerings. It's a good variety for a grocery store, if not quite up to the selection of a dedicated bottle shop.

I stopped by while traveling from SF to Russian River. It's a nice, Whole Foods-like market, with a great selection of meats, produce and other groceries. The beer section is great for a market but far from a bottle shop. I picked up FW Stickee Monkee and Lost Abbey Red Poppy. They were a little pricey but I was happy to find them.

I kept hearing about this place and finally decided to stop by and check it out. This market is surprisingly fantastic. When i was there, I saw; Red Poppy (sold out everywhere else), Conflux 2, Old Stock Ale Cellar Reserve, Life and Limb, and more. All for reasonable prices. There was a good amount of Russian River, and other local offerings. You are not able to break up 6 packs from what I could tell, but that is fairly standard with grocery stores.

I got there right before close so I did not receive much attention, which I understand. The prices were fantastic to acceptable. The Red Poppy is still just $14.99 instead of having been hiked up do to rareness.

I do worry about buying IPA's or anything hoppy here because I am not sure of the sales volume, but I will have no problem buying many other items at this location. I have just found a new place that i will be frequenting.

Cute local grocery store (with good hot food and salad bars, etc), with a sneakily great bottle selection at the back.
According to Jeff (the beer buyer), they expanded their beer shelves earlier this year, and it appears that he's been doing his best to keep them well-stocked. Since discovering them a couple of months ago, I have frequently found bottles that were difficult to track down elsewhere (Abacus, Marron Acidifie, Parabola, Red Poppy, etc), plus a nicely-priced RR selection, always with fresh Pliny. Jeff is very helpful and always points out any newly-stocked beers when he sees me.

Decided to stay in at the hotel one night, just wanted to grab some of Nor Cal's finest, and the Petaluma Market absolutely delivered.

Clean, stocked full of shelves. This felt like an older Whole Foods. Beer is stored in an open fridge and they're packed like sardines. Wide variety of fantastic beers, and I didn't notice much if any bullshit.

I was disappointed that the only employee I spoke with was uninterested in the beer, but clearly someone at the market is. This is a great selection for the size of town it's in. I need to move to Petaluma!

Oh, and prices were right in line with what I was seeing all over California. This store had a more interesting selection than anywhere I went in SF and San Diego.

Petaluma Market is my local go to shop. I usually find all the latest Northern California brews. Everything from Russian River to Firestone Walker to The Bruery. All bombers and six packs are kept cold in a fully stocked open refrigeration case. I have been a frequent shopper and have never had any issues with freshness. Jeff the beer guy is always friendly and likes to chat about new and feature releases. Prices are on the high side, but definitely worth checking out if you're in 'Luma. Cheers!

Was visiting some friends in Petaluma and after lunch at The Tea Room, we walked passed here and they mentioned it had a decent beer selection.

And ... it was awesome.

For Russian River, they had Supplication, Temptation, Consecration, Damnation, Redemption, Salvation and even fresh Pliny and for cheaper than I bought it the day before at Russian River. $4.39 instead of $4.50. Other notables were Firestone 14 an Abacus, both months after their respective releases. They even had 2010 Abyss still, WAY after the release.

Incredible.

Service I gave a 5 .. even though I didn't speak with anyone. The guy could have very well been pulling some bottles in the back or on his lunch break. But there was a sign that had his name and a big picture of him and listed him as the resident beer expert or something to that effect.

The prices all seemed reasonable. I didn't look at everything, but what I saw was priced well. The market is very Whole Foods-esque, so I could see some things being a little pricier, but I had no qualms.

Will definitely go back.

I went in last wednesday for the first time in a over a month to find they completely re did the beer section. Instead of seperate fridge doors it's now just one big cooler like you see in Whole Foods. They also expanded the bombers, put in hard to find things like Sculpin and Victory at Sea and expanded the 6 packs. I couldn't decide what to get at first since the selection grew so much but I'm glad they did this renovation. Now it's alot easier to look at their selection and find something instead of having to open up each fridge door and look at something. Prices are great for somethings and for Russian River the Pliny was fresh and was about the same price I saw at other places. If you're in petaluma market and want a good place for good beer and a good sandwich check out Petaluma Market.

I stopped in yesterday to grab a quick lunch and as always took a trip over to the beer department to see what new bombers are available from Jeff. Holy Batman...over night they remodeled the area, added new upgraded coolers and the selection went from around 170 or so bombers to now over 250 bombers alone(70% Micro Brewed,20% Imported). The craft ales and hard to find import 6 packs doubled in size too..yaaah! They have the latest Sierra Nevada Hoptimum and Firestone Walkers DOUBLE JACK IPA both at 100 IBU's and both went with me as I had to get back to work after eating my lunch that I planned on going in for originally.

This store is indeed a must to check out if you never have seen what I like to call selections on the move, constantly offering ales and lagers that are hard to find just anywhere,
Prost to ya--.Applewood

Petaluma Market is absolutely my go to bottle shop. That may be because they have a good selection... that may also be because it's roughly one half mile from my front door to theirs... likely more the latter. They really do have a solid selection though! They always have the deschutes seasonal within 2-3 weeks of their release, which doesn't seem any longer than any other good bottle shop around. They have a decent belgian and import section. their lineup has constant tweaks and always seems to be pretty up to date. I'd have to agree that some of the bottles get a bit pricey, but the fact of the matter is that EVERYTHING is pricey at petaluma market... think whole foods extreme.

If I walk into pet mar, I can't walk out without first browsing the beer selection... and I almost always see something I hadn't seen the previous week. I gave a 3.5 for service only because I've never actually talked to anyone working there about the beer. I've been in plenty of times, I guess never at the right time to catch anyone. The selection is good enough, so you have to assume that the knowledge base is there.

In parting, I should point out that 85% of the time, as I'm weighing my options, staring at the bombers, a random shopper will walk by, slow down a touch, take a look at the selection and look back at me only to say "too many choices"... to which I always reply "there can never be too many choices".

I have been to this store quite a few times. I am always impressed with the beer selection and the fact that it is all refrigerated. Most of their offerings are from the West Coast and a couple imports from Belgium. A huge bummer is that if it isn't on sale, it is usually overpriced. Not significantly so, usually by 50 cents to a dollar... An upside is that I have seen Lagunitas 12 packs there for 10.99! Another bummer is they offer military discount but not for alchohol.... A great place to go if you don't want to make the drive to Bottle Barn.

I was in downtown Petaluma today (3/13/09) and stopped in here after remembering seeing this as a good destination in a forum post.

This is a really nice market with a fairly impressive beer selection. The beer is located in the back right portion of the building. They had tons of fresh Pliny (2/24/09) and Blind Pig (3/3/09) as well as Consecration, Beatification, Batch 23, White Knuckle, Abyss, Hop Stoopid, and many more. They also carry a ton of good sixers. I would say it is the best selection in Sonoma County that I have seen outside of the Bottle Barn.

Prices run from good ($9.99 for the Abyss) to a little high ($4.99 for PTE and BP). Definitely a good place to stop if you are in the area.
