The menu says, "A true NWIPA with an orange/copper hue for a citrus nose leading to an abundance of Northwest hop flavor and enough malt to back it up." A bit wordy, but otherwise not a bad writeup for a menu placard. To that I would add that the beer's (intentional?) undercarbonation feeds a big puffy mouthfeel similar to a cask conditioned ale. It has solid balances with a graceful hop medley (from Cascade, Cluster, Palisade, and Simcoe) and the flaunted lace characteristic of Hop Valley beers as a whole. An excellent example of the style. (547 characters)

22oz bomber no bottling date info...

Pours a solid orange-carmel body with a 1/2 inch white head. little retention, little lacing.

Not much of a smell at first, but as the beer warmed up a bit it really took off ! A very nice tropical fruit, citrus smell about halfway through the( first) glass.

Taste is much different then the smell. There is no citrus or fruit here. It's all hops.Perhaps a tiny bit of malt... But it's mostly bitter (and I mean a good bitter)

Excellent full mouth-feel. Doesn't get much better then this.

Very nice! Hop forward without being over the top...Bitter... But not too bitter.... I can taste the work that must have gone into making this beer (682 characters)

pours a coppery grapefruit juice hue with a decent frothy one-finger head that leaves behind ample lacing.

aroma is bright with citrus. grapefruits, lemon. hints of lime. citron. a hint of malt cracker comes through, but the powerhouse of citrus shines.

Whoah. citrus. grapefruits. maybe a hint of pineapple. a touch tropical, but still some interesting earthy, green hops to balance it out. enough malt and sweetness to keep this one from tasting like pure hops. although it's deliciously hoppy.

mouth is smooth, ample carbonation. moderately full body. enjoyable and great for the flavor. nice to have a strong IPA that's not heavy on the carbonation.

this is one impressive brew. interesting hop profile, heavyhanded on the hops but in a deliciously intentional way. Incredibly drinkable... probably a good thing I don't have a few more. Worth seeking out! (863 characters)

12oz can. Pours a semi translucent burnt orange color with a half inch of head. Some lacing. The aroma is juicy grapefruit, lemon, lime and pine hops. The taste is more of the juicy citrus. Grapefruit topped with sugar, lemon and a light hint of pine. Some light malts as well. Finishes with bitter grapefruit and lime. More pine notes as it warms. Medium bodied with an oily mouthfeel. Fairly noticeable alcohol presence which is surprising since the ABV isn't really high. Overall, really good IPA. (500 characters)

Poured from a can into SN Tulip

- Pours a hazy orange with a 1 finger thick beige head that slowly fades into a persistant thick cap that remains to the end leaving massive lacing.

- Smells of hops, tons of hops, resinous, black pepper, papaya, tangerines, pine cones, alcohol, toasty sweet malts, biscuits and crackers.

- Taste mirrors the nose, crackers, pepper, papaya, grapefruit, resinous hops, alcohol, biscuits, guava, and caramel. Bitterness is deep and persistent.

- Smooth, bubbly, but not spritzy, dry bitter finish.

- Very impressive IPA, very drinkable. Dry bitter finish lasts w/ great malt backbone & lots of hops in the nose, flavor, and bitterness. (670 characters)

Pour - out of the can, Alphadelic fills the glass a soft golden color with a rich, thick white head floating on top. Super clingy foam sticks on the walls of the glass. This has the makings of a fine beer.

Aroma - loads of sweet citrus, cotton candy, bitter lemon, pineapple and passion fruit. No shortage of aromas to take in as this one settles. As it warms a tad those aromas increase and those aromatic hop driven smells really come out.

Taste - can't help but start with a big sip. This smells great and has been leading me on a bit. Lots of grapefruit taste right off the bat, something I will always love about some breweries take on this style. This has the citrus, the dankness, the bitterness and the floral and raw hop flavor that drives a great IPA - and yes it really does have enough malt to back it all up. Really enjoying this beer and wishing I had more of them...

Overall - when you call your brewery Hop Valley and your based in one of the most historic hop growing areas of the country than you know people are going to expect a LOT from your hop focused beers. Alphadelic IPA does not disappoint. This was a beer I really enjoyed and would love to get out to Springfield and have it on tap while learning more about the regions hop-growing history. (1,274 characters)

22oz bottle from Roths Sunnyslope Market in S.Salem. $3.99 pours a slightly hazy burnt orange with a rough and tumble bubbly off white head. Very healthy hop aromas to this one, citricfruity an juicy hop i am assuming this is fresh! Taste is the same as the aroma but with a strong burnt toffee backing very good. Good palate does not let the beer get boring. Overall an excellent PNW IPA (387 characters)

I enjoyed this beer, thanks to ahalloin for bringing this one to share, thanks Tony.

The beer has a very nice sudsy IPA apperance with plenty of lacing, and some nice head. Semi hazy orange color.

The smell has a bright hoppy smell, a touch of tropical fruits and nice hop resins, maybe with a touch of sweetness. The taste is quite balanced, maybe over balanced to a hophead like me who really likes a hop edge, if you know what I mean. Lots of well integrated hop favors perfect with light biscuit malts and slight sugar. Some nice tempered citrus from the hops.

The feel is again sudsy with nice body. Great feel for an ipa, and the overall impression is great. (667 characters)

22oz bomber poured to tulip

Pours a dark gold with mild haze. 1 finger of off-white head with moderate persistence and definite stickiness

Aroma is a tad understated: herbs, pine, grass, orange peel

Flavor is an interesting balance for 90 IBU.. runs a route from sharp to sweet to a lingering satisfying bitter. Good grain backbone.

Mouthfeel is right where you want it, neither thick nor thin and lively on the tongue

A well crafted beer that is going places. Admittedly, if you aren't into bitter you should go someplace else, but this one has dimensions beyond just a lot of IBUs (588 characters)

Saw this one at John's Market and decided to pick up on up. It poured a slightly hazy orange into the Pilsner glass. It has a 2 finger head that dropped off fairly quick. Left some nice lacing on the sides

The smell had alot of citrus and piney notes. It was a pretty sweet tasting IPA and had decent balance as you could not tell the 90 ibu's as it wasn't as aggressive as ibu typically would give at that range. Soft on the palate as it left a tiny mark on the roof of the mouth. Overall a solid IPA from down in the Eugene area. (533 characters)

A: Poured a burnt orange color with good carbonation leaving a solid white cap with some serious stamina. Wow. I am five minutes into this bomber and a lot of white bubbles and lacing are still present.

S: A big breadiness on the nose with underlying citrus and pine.

T: The malt comes to town with a nice breadiness upfront a good dose of orange peel, grapefruit appear initially and persist throughout. This beer seems simple on taste but good. The finish is mildly bitter, moderately slick but not oily per se.

M: Medium bodied, well carbonated. This beer is balanced. The grain bill is just as big as the hop bill here but yet the IBUs still shine on.

O: A very nice single IPA! Recommend, yes, especially for anyone who likes a bit grit and chewiness in their IPA (773 characters)

Hazy amber gold with a very fat one finger of white head. Very good amount of lacing. Aroma is all floral resinous hops. Taste is big bitter pink grapefruit with a very good slug of sweet malts. Mouthfeel is good with just enough carbonation. Medium dry bitter finish. Drinkabilty is good for the style. Well recommended. (321 characters)

A clouded brownish tan color with a healthy off-white head and solid lacing. The aroma is a earthy nutty grain with plenty of malty herbal hops. The flavor is a beautifully blended herbal/citrus hop bite over malty bready grains. This is solidly medium boddied with a smoothly carbonated feel that gives a slightly spicey effect. A real easy and tasty drinker. (360 characters)

Appearance is dull gold with a fluffy white head that leaves sheets of foamy lace.

Smell is big citrusy hops, lots of lime, accentuated sweetness from the malts. A little hoppy spice as well.

Taste is also lots of citrus hops, malt sugars, a bit of toast as well. Very full flavored for an IPA, even in OR, but a bit over ripe, hinting at composting limes. Probably a function of turnover (I grabbed this from the cooler at the bier stein), almost giving it an English IPA style, earthy. Good and robust, just not quite as snappy as I'd like

Mouthfeel is medium lbodied, a bit slick, decent carbonation.

Drinkability is pretty good, a hoppy IPA, perhaps a bit English style, but I dig it. The label doesn't mention the hops used, I'm to lazy to search, but not the typical OR profile, so regardless, they've managed to carve out a niche. Assertive enough to satisfy but sessionable enough, especially if they manned up with sixers. (938 characters)

Tawny bronze with creamy pitted snowy head.
Flinty grain, mango, and golden syrup on the nose opening into lots of oily orange rind.
Icing sugared croissant and orange slurpy up front the light pine, Seville orange, and resin hops.
Tangerine sorbet and sugared white grapefruit end and lingered aspirin bitterness.
Lt-med, oily, some chew.

Juicy, with layers of citrus. Perfect balance of bitter and aroma – IBUs are firm but not overdone. Rock candy sweetness keeps it light, almost delicate. Brings a lot for 6.7% (522 characters)

Pale-looking, yellowish color with a pretty thin and quickly dissipating white head.

Pretty decent aromatic mixture of pine and citrus--mostly grapefruit. Fresh malt is also there.

Lots of hop bitterness to go along with a moderate malt backbone. Both pine and sweet, bitter citrus fruits are notable in this one. Not the most balanced flavor, but it is pretty good nonetheless.

Moderate carbonation with a killer hop bite.

Overall this is a very drinkable and enjoyable Northwest-style IPA. No doubt this is a hop-forward beer, and it is one that non-hopheads should probably avoid. But there is a time and place for everything, and if your interest is a well-hopped IPA then it is time to grab one of these moderately priced brews and find a good place to enjoy it. Pretty nice brew overall. (811 characters)

12oz can poured into a pint glass
Look: beautiful orange amber color, very clear, 2 fingers white foam disappated quickly.
Smell: Fruit, citrus, pine, toasted grain. Really nice.
Taste: Too bad it didn't taste as good as it smelled, light malt, fairly high hop bitterness, fruity hop dry finish.
Feel: Med-full body, could use a bit more carbonation.
Overall: good beer, one I will drink again. (394 characters)

Pours a very standard one finger white head into my standard pint glass. The head is much like the last hop valley head, a little soapy looking, somewhat fluffy, and more small bubbles, overall a better look than the Double D Blonde from hop valley, but still not a great look. Decent head retention, it's not dissipating too quickly. Very good lacing all the way throughout the glass. The body is pretty dang cloudy, basically no visibility through this beer at all. The body is a deep orange, with hints of yellow, it kinda looks like mango juice or something, if that even exists. Carbonation looks pretty small from what I can see. I'm actually going to change my opinion on the head because it lasted for quite a while, and it's got a very impressive layer of foam on top of the body and the lacing is very good. Overall a pretty good looking beer, the body is almost perfect for the style, a little odd looking, but very good non the less; and the head started off not looking good, but it's impressing me now! Very nice smell on this beer, nice citrucy hops, very fresh and crisp. Maybe it's just the fact that I haven't had an IPA in a while or maybe it's just the beer, but this smells so appetizing right now. It's just super crisp and clean smelling. The hops are maybe a tiny tiny bit smaller on the nose than I would like them to be, but it's not really a problem because it's not a double IPA. It's not an out of this world smell, but it's a very very solid IPA smell, and a good beer to turn to (I'm assuming) if you want to know what a good IPA is. This is all just going from the smell though, so lets dig in! Hmm, well the taste is for sure not as crisp as I would have liked, it's refreshing, but that might only be because it's cold. It does have a little crisp factor, but frankly I think the carbonation is just too low. As for flavors, well it is bitter, and that's good, but it doesn't really have that crisp hop kick that you look for in IPA's, it's all there, it's just not coming through the right way. Small malt, and a small sweetness. The sweetness isn't big at all, and it actually compliments the beer very well, but it's very possible that it's taking away from the crispness as well. Overall the beer is just a little bland and boring, the bitterness dominated the flavor for sure. It's not a bad flavor, it's very good, just not quite what I was hoping for on the smell. This beer still gets a 4 for taste, just because it's still a good beer, no doubt about it, but it's for sure on the lower end of a 4, rather than on the higher end. As far as mouthfeel goes, well I already mentioned it's lack on crispness, which isn't good. In terms of thickness, the body is thick enough for an IPA, but for sure not what I'm looking for, more watery than what I generally like. The beer is super easy to drink, and the mouthfeel helps with that, but that doesn't mean I don't want more out of the mouthfeel. It pains me to do this, just because it's a very good beer, but 3.5 for the mouthfeel. The drinkability is this beers best quality for sure. You can barely notice the 6.5% ABV, and it's just very easy drinking and very smooth. It's not necessarily what I look for in an IPA, but on some occasions it'll hit the spot. Take tonight for instance, it's not what I was looking for, and I was expecting something different, but I still really enjoyed it. Overall what more can I say, a very good beer, not what I was hoping for, but it works.

The lacing on this beer followed me amazingly to the bottom of the glass, I want to give this beer a 4.5 for appearance, but that beginning soapy look is preventing me. Still a great appearance. As I drank more and more of this beer the taste got a lot smaller and became more sessionable. Usually I would be displeased, but it works for this beer, it's still tasty. (3,838 characters)

Bottled version, sourced in Eugene, poured into shaker pint glass 7.30.2010.

Finger and a half white somewhat uneven head, medium dissipation with some lacing retention. A bit hazy deep gold, some carbonation present, second pour resulted in significant yeast floaties, obviously bottled conditioned. Tropical fruit nose, some caramel sweetness from malts. Taste mirrors nose, pretty hoppy, leading to a fairly bitter finish, well in balance. Mouthfeel is a bit sticky, medium fullness. Pretty drinkable, but I'll be more careful to leave yeast in bottle next time to taste the full character of this nice IPA. (611 characters)

Poured from 12 oz can into willy glass. Appearance is clear golden yellow with an average white head dissipating and leaving minimal lacing. Smells slightly of citrus and pine, with some malty sweetness coming through....not super aromatic, but I drank it pretty cold. Taste is somewhat alphadelic-ly bitter. Lots of alpha acid here. Hoppy bitter. Not so bitter that it puckers, but leaning well towards the bitter side. Some maltiness showing too. Overall, if you like lots of hoppy bitterness in your IPAs, you'll probably love this. (535 characters)

Poured into a pint glass from a 22 oz bomber.

Color is clear gold with a two finger white head. Good retention and lacing. Smell is citrus and juicy - orange and lemon with some floral aroma. Flavor follows the nose - some juicy citrus with a bit of a caramel backbone. Finishes with a nice lingering bitterness. As it warmed, more of the Citra lemony flavors started to come out. Body is medium with a lot of oil hop resins.

Overall, better than I expected. Very good. (480 characters)

A: Pours a clear amber color, 1 finger width head with a good amount of lacing down the glass
S: Smell is slightly malty but mostly citrusy type hop scents. I would say the smell is just average for an IPA, nothing too spectacular
T: Nicely balanced beer, good tasting biscuty maltiness followed by a nice bitter citrusy hop flavor
M: Medium bodied beer, smooth goes down easy. Finishes slightly dry
D: Very drinkable beer, nicely balanced out surprised its only 6.5%, seems like it would be more than that. The 90 IBU's are pretty balanced out. (545 characters)

A: cloudy deep gold pour with half inch head.

S: pine and apricot.

T: good but not overwhelming bitterness. Tastes of grapefruit. Malt is understated which is good. Does this beer have a little wheat in it?

M: very nice. If I could duplicate this at home, I would. Laces well down the glass. Carbonation is typical for an IPA.

O: a typical NW IPA. Except for color. They have to use carapils or wheat to keep the color and get this mouthfeel. First taste of Hop Valley. I like it. (487 characters)

Cool looking can that I picked up at the Bend Brew Shop.

Pours a slightly hazy and bright gold color with a nice white head. Pretty nice
looking beer.

Aromas are of hard candies, sweet citrus, and some pine notes.

Taste has nice bitter grapefruit up front. Beer then settles into some sweet hard candies. Finish is dry and crisp, also a bit bitter, with some pine, resin, and bright citrus notes.

Mouthfeel is snappy with good body and nice carbonation.

Overall a very solid IPA, I'd be pleased to drink this one again. (525 characters)
