Hop Valley Brewing Company - Alpha Centauri Binary IPA, poured into a Boulevard tulip.

Look - Pours a pale hazy amber with floaties and a small soapy head that dissipates quickly. Ropey lacing.

Smell - Light malt and juicy hops. Nice tropical fruit hops. Melon and orange.

Taste - Light malt body and decent juicy hop profile. More bitter pine hops there.

Mouthfeel - Medium body with moderate carb. Not at all boozy. Rests bitter, dry, and clean. Great drinkability.

Overall - Tasty clean DIPA. Wish more of the juicy hop aroma was in the taste. Bitter pine is old school.

look: 4 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.75

Appearance- Pours up a good amount of head which looks to have pretty good retention. The head is a fluffy, pure cotton white while the body is a pale amber which looks a mix of pale amber and golden straw in the light. Lacing tends toward sheeting.

Nose- Very pine and resin forward which indicates this might be the type of hop bomb many hopheads love but I won't. Some mustiness. A little bit of grapefruit. Some caramel. Much more pine and resin forward from the bottle than the glass which shows much more citrus (orange and lemon) with a touch of honey.

Taste- Starts off with some grapefruit but quickly moves into pine and resin and then matchstick. This needs to warm up a bit but this is exactly the sort of high hopped beer that I don't like. That is not to say that it's a bad beer- I understand fully why many would love this. This is bitter as hell and I would have loved it when I first started drinking IPAs. Still quite tasting as there's a nice spice tingle on the finish and the linger is mellow and rounded. Malt bill is definitely pretty clean at this point as I really get nothing in that department. Very small citrus notes start to appear, even a hint of peach. Some caramel and honey do appear near the middle but this is still dominated by resilient pine and resin hops. Spiciness borders on pepper or even gin botanicals. Good beer that is a solid representation of one aspect of the style.

Mouthfeel- Almost medium bodied with a bit of rich creaminess. Nice and smooth. Good amount of carbonation but blends well with the texture.

Drinkability- A little much for me because of the bittering hops but still quite accessible. No heat and rounded enough as not to obliterate the taste buds. Great price- just a little over 4 bucks for a solid IIPA.

Overall- A good, solid beer. Nothing more, nothing less. The flavor profile is not preferred but will probably appeal to most IPA drinkers. But after the Plinys, Heady, Notorious, and Sucks, I just can't do these types of beer anymore. A must try for hopheads.
