Aged one year

Appearance: misty red/brown, like plum sauce; fine, sand coloured head is full with good retention

Aroma: candy and spice, like rum, and sweet caramel, toffee like a scotch ale

Taste & Mouthfeel: deep, rich, dark fruit flavours - plum pie, and like you're getting bits of caramelized juice on the crust; medium/full body and buttery texture fill the mouth and provide luxurious feel; not an incredible amount of depth, but still with flavour and mouthfeel that are just about perfectly built; sweetness of malts balanced by cutting alcohol burn and touch of hops that lingers, carrying these flavours with it

Overall: dessert in and of itself, feels like Christmas, to be had with family by the fire

Got this one from Rob. Thanks!
Clear, deep copper, nice red/orange colour, with an inch of yellow/beige foam. Good head retention, chunky lacing. Malty aroma, some caramel and Munich character, hint of hops and raisins. Same in the flavour, but with a bit of alcohol in the finish. Bitterness started out mellow, but became more prominent as the sweetness started to fade. A bit sugary, faint burnt flavour. Full bodied with low carbonation and alcohol warmth - not quite heat, but enough to really feel it on the palate. I enjoyed it. There wasn't a great deal of depth, but it had a solid flavour and nice texture.

Bottle part of the pack of three vintages. From notes.

A - Poured a nice bright ruby red colour. Lovely two finger thick off white head left nice rings of lace and a finger of retention.

S - Raisins, sugar, rich and pleasant but mild.

T - Sweet. Sugar, raisins, dark fruit, plums. Nice.

M - Nice carbonation, full body, and a sweet then dry finish.

O/D - Good stuff. Tasty and easy to drink. No hint of booze. Good but doesn't blow your mind. But heck, it was quite good.

2010 vintage bottle opened to celebrate Father's Day 2013, Pour into sniffer.

A dark apricot brown with streams of bubbles and lots of floating debris. Half inch yellowish tan head that quickly subsided. The fine sparkling lacy slid down the glass and disappeared.

There is a strong unpleasant smell of alcohol that comes close to smelling like paint thinner. But there is also a pleasant aroma of apricots and nuts.

I was surprised that there was not a strong alcohol taste. What there is is the strong taste of apricot brandy ... a smoky apricot brandy. It is very fruity .... prunes with roasted nuts in the second wave.

A rich, thick oily feel with a nice touch of carbonation. A very warm feeling beer.

If I overlook the alcohol smell this would rate much higher. A real sipper.

Nice amber brown colour, one finger of cream coloured head , bit of lace as well here too. Smell is of sweet buttered bread and fruit, lots of red berry, cherry, raspberry, a bit of caramel and earthy-fruity hops with some red liquorice. Taste is malty with caramel initially follwed by red liquorice, berries, cherry with some mild dark fruits, only lightly sweet, a bit of earthy hop bitterness and a faint bit of alcohol. Light-medium carbonation, medium full body. Really good, possibly one of my favorite St. Ambrois Vintage Ale's fresh, might even improve over time but too good to not drink now.

Huge thank you to Montrealbcr89 for this and the rest of the treats in a sexy box of QC that unexpectedly appeared at my door.

Appearance. Pours a hazy amber-orange with a finger of very light burnt-orange tinted/khaki head.

Smell. Plums, caramel, maraschino cherries and almond, toffee pudding, saltine crackers and a little citrus. Interesting!

Taste. Toffee and candied fruits, cherries (not fresh, but kinda like the green ones in fruit cake), tobacco and almond, orange rinds, some nutmeg-like spice.

Mouthfeel. On the lower side of full bodied with smooth, below medium carbonation.

Overall. A nice big beer with some Canadian style. Not sure exactly what that even means, but it's unique in a way that I can only assume is Canadian.

(4.0) A: Clear amber with a tall and creamy beige foam head that has timely retention and evident lacing down the glass.

(4.25) S: Dried oak, bourbon-like, spices, banana bread, raisins, dates, and caramel. Alcohol is well hidden considering the ABV. This is dynamic and very smooth.

(4.0) T: Oak and bourbon, spices including cinnamon, dried fruits (raisins and figs), vanilla, over ripe banana, and a solid toffee malt backbone. This is very tasty, although I feel aging would really develop this to its full potential. A bit of bourbon warmth, but again well hidden.

(4.0) M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Slick and sticky with a solid dryness and warmth throughout.

(4.0) D: This is good and worth drinking fresh but feels like it hasn’t quite peaked (which is understandable). A very good brewery and I always enjoy getting my paws on their offerings whenever possible.

Bottle in a nice anniversary tin. Though it is part of the LCBO release, I picked this one up at Broue Ha Ha in Gatineau.

Poured into my trusty Duvel goblet. Nice dark caramel-ruby colour, about an inch of fluffy head that recedes into a thick ring. Fine retention, nice looking brew.

Smells like an English barleywine through and through: rich malt, caramel, tea hops, fruit (orange) and spices.

Nice flavorful barleywine, very tasty. Sweet malt, fruit, tea. Warming alcohol and puckery citrus hops to the finish.

Lighter bodied, tart, great carbonation.

Nice barleywine. Aging would probably do wonders for this brew. I'm certainly hoping to have another one or two of these now, and hold on to some for next winter.
