Has 100 rotating taps. a lot of local breweries are served. great menu, specials are updated every week. This is a hidden gem. You might spot a celebrity inside on occasion. This place could be a Manhattan hot spot. Friendly professional staff. The mussels are a regular on the menu and worth trying.

I almost don't want to rate this place as I'd almost prefre it to remain my little secret. The selection is absolutely nuts, and the food is pretty good as well. Really great spot.

This place is a real find. I am amazed it is not jammed all the time; after all, it's a short walk from an NYC train.

Anyhow,it ALWAYS has 120 (or more) craft beers on tap all times. Yes, I said "on tap." Not 50 tap and 70 in bottles; no, 120+ craft beers on tap at all times! And knowledgeable staff, too. Also, they regularly host special "beer" nights, e.g, tap takeover, pairings, etc. And, some surprisingly good food, which is now putting its special beers to very good use. For example, I recently had Pumpkin Ravioli that used Southern Tier Pumpking Beer (perhaps the only good use of it ;-). Anyhow, eat, drink and be merry at Maloney's.

Craft beer heaven. The crowd is hit and miss depending on the night. But a true beer lover will love this place. Over 100 craft brews on tap plus hundreds more bottles. Their taps are constantly rotating too, so every time I go the menu is completely different. I definitely recommend Maloney's to any beer geek. Food is pretty good too.

I have been going to this place for about 2 1/2 years now, the first time I ever went to Maloney's I was not happy because the beer I had was not fresh and the food was just ok. I decided to keep giving it a try because I had hope. The past year or so Maloney's went from just being ok, to pretty darn good. They have changed their whole Menu around, and the beer seems to be fresher than ever and they are always changing the beers around as well. Another cool thing that they started to do was host beer and food pairing dinners, with a different brewery each time. I am glad to say that this place made the change, I do not know if they changed ownership or what have you but to me they have made a complete 360. The atmosphere is pretty nice and laid back, the only thing I would suggest would be to have the waitresses and bartenders have a bit more knowledge on the beer they serve. Other than that I think this place is pretty cool, and I love the selection of tater tots as a side. I would definitely recommend Maloney's to anyone looking for some good brew and some pubgrub! Enjoy!

I've been to many of the top beer bars in NJ and quite a few in NYC. Based on my experiences there's a new sheriff in town and its name is Maloney's Pub in Matawan. Currently they have more than 100 beers on tap and have the capacity to soon move to 160 drafts. Most every style is well represented with an especially strong selection of Belgian ales, IPA's, Stouts, and many others. They also have a selection of NJ brewed beers, so you'll find offerings from Kane, Flying Fish, River Horse and others. Bartenders and staff are very knowledgeable and friendly, and the clientele are a wide range of folks who enjoy craft beer. They have also recently started to offer high end single malt scotches for those that enjoy that type of drink.

The food menu includes typical pub grub but also offers higher end entrees that are expertly prepared. They hold regular beer dinners at Maloney's with special beer pairings for each course. You can get to Maloneys by car off the Garden State Parkway (117/120) in Monmouth County and they are a short walk from the Matawan train station on NJ Transit. If you enjoy great craft beers this is the place to visit.

Great selection of beer on tap, bottles, and good food. Its not the nicest bar in the world but the prices are fare and the beer is delicious. Try the Southern Tier Mokah or Staff favorite Raven Black IPA. There arn't many seats in the bar section so come early on the weekends. If your a beer lover and in the area, do yourself a favor, stop by and have a brew.

Good bar with large selection of beers. Bartenders know their beer and are friendly. Little pricey but I don't mind paying for quality beers that I can't find on draft in other bars. I had some food while they had Oktoberfest going on. It was okay. I do say ok because I cook the very same meal I ordered and cook it throughout the year. I do believe the bar is missing something as far as atmosphere goes. Not sure what but it needs something. I have been to this bar numerous times and it's never been busy which I like although I hope it survives being as slow as it is.

This is the best beer bar in NJ, hands down. 100+ rotating taps. Knowledgeable craft beer bartenders. Great food (try the Pomme Frite, Portabella Mushroom Sandwhich, any build-a-burger you can think of, or ANY of the entrees). The bartenders are beer-tenders, they know and love their beer, many of whom are home-brewers and aspiring professional brewers.

The only downside? Located in Matawan, NJ, a forgotten provincial backwater of NJ. If you're a beer-lover within 50 miles of Maloney's, you owe yourself a trip to sample the beer there.

A great great great bar in nj. 65 taps, knowledgeable friendly staff, and decent food. the only thing that i feel needs an upgrade is the food. but i am a localvore and can be very picky.

my wife and i have been there numerous times for just a pint or one there amazing beer dinners they hold regularly. for the amount of taps they have it is impressive that the beer is always fresh. shows that the owners and staff are all very dedicated to the establishment.

but the beer selection is sick. possibly the best tap selection outside of NYC.

Atmosphere: Bar area has about 20 seats around the L shaped bar with 2 dining areas containing approx. 20 tables. The place is always dark and sometimes overly loud. The last time we were in there were only 3 other tables filled with one party finding it fun to entertain their toddler by banging silverware on a plate

Service: The bar and wait staff has been very hit or miss. I have been there at least 5 times with only 2 bartenders that seemed like they really knew beer. The other bartenders and waiters seemed as if they were guessing or really were not beer drinkers. The last time we went was Father's Day at 12:30pm and the only waiter working was the bartender, which was very strange.

Selection: I want to be impressed by their selection but I frequently run into problems. They claim to have over 250 beer to choose from but many are seasonal selections. They refitted the bar to have around 50 different tap selection but the last times I went they had over 15 empty taps. The selection on draft usually included a solid mix of Belgians, local favorites like Weyerbacher, Victory, Southern Tier, Troegs, and Ommegang, and other solid beers, like Unibroue and Rogue.

The big issue that I have is that their beer menu seems to be a work of fiction. The draft list the last 2 times has been wrong and the bottle list is not accurate regarding what is in stock. The issue is not that they do not have all the seasonals listed, that I understand. The issue is that they are missing beers that they should have. When I ordered the last time it took 3 tries on the draft and bottle list to find one I wanted that they actually had.

Another disappointing thing last time was that they had 5-6 Dogfish Head beers on tap that I could not have. They were not opening these beers until the Dogfish Head tasting night that coming Friday. Do not tease me like that!

The staff does make an effort to use proper glassware when serving the beer.

I am not trying to dissuade people from going because it still has the best selection in the area. These are just issues that could take a okay beer bar and make it great. It just seems like the management needs to make a commitment to becoming a great place for beer or just skate by.

I heard about this place from a friend and stopped by a few months ago. First impression was that it was a run down bar with a great beer selection. Since then, I have joined their beer club, attended the beer pairing dinners, and visited the bar several times. As an avid craft beer enthusist, I almost look forward to seeing the current menu. I wonder what could they possibly get that tops the previous menu, but often times it does. The beer dinners are amazing, for approximetly $50-$60 pp you get a great meal and several varieties of whatever brewery is featured.

I can't beleive I hadn't found this place sooner!

I stopped by on a recent weeknight with a couple of friends and was blown away by the selection of drafts. I think there were 70+ taps, the vast majority of which were serious craft beers.

I consider myself pretty knowledgable and there were a bunch of beers on tap I had never heard of. I had a flight (5 sample-sized glasses) of different and obscure Belgian beers and all were great. I also had a Bear Republic stout that was really tasaty.

I am surprised I heard about this place earlier, especially since I doubt there is anywhere around, including the great beer bars in nyc that can match their tap list.

I can't wait to go back.

This is the best kept secret in Monmouth county! My friends and I usually drink out craft beer at one of our homes, or make a trip to the city to some of the well known craft bars. I heard about this place from one of the liquor stores in the area. I can't belive it was just minutes from my home.

The place was very large compared to the other places we've been to before. The food was really good with large portions. The service was very attenative, and knew the product pretty well. Most of all, the important part...the selection was MASSIVE! They have 75 running taps (for now. The bartender said they're going larger), and over 300 different bottles. The bar crowd was moderate, which is fine by me because I like to enjoy my beer peacefully with my friends.

I can't belive this place has been here for two years without knowing about it, yet I can't belive they've only been het for two years considering how much they have going on.

I totally think it's worth a trip out. Try the Troegs Nugget Nectar (on tap!).

Went to Maloney's the other night with a few buddies to check it out. We have been dying to find a local place that has craft beer and were shocked when we walked in and saw the amount of beer on draft. Living a few towns over I can't belive we didn't know about this place. I don't know why they haven't advertised yet and have been open for almost 2 year. Guys, get the flyers out so people will come and drink your beer.... We were on a Nugget Nectar quest as well and were not disappointed. We also tried about 10 different beers and none were old/flat tasting. I am however a bit concerned that with so many drafts some of the beers won't move to quickly so you might run into a old/flat beer but I guess that's something they need to figure out as they try and grow this place. Since it was a Wednesday in the suburbs not many folks were out drinking beers.. folks you must remember this isn't the Blind Tiger in NYC so you can't expect to see that type of crowd here on a weeknight. The bartender was also knowledgeable and enthusiastic about upcoming events at the bar. Food was good as well.
Looking forward to going back on a Friday/Saturday night.

Being home from school with nothing to do, figured why not.

Its a very irish feeling pub which I really enjoyed but was incredibly loud. Had a hard time hearing the bar tender at times but got by. Had a few TVs up on the walls, 3 of which had the winter classic and 1 TV with the OK and UConn game.

Had a lot of kicked kegs, very disappointing.

Service is hit or miss...some nights it's great, others it is beyond abominable. A lot of short pours too to the point where the glass is maybe half beer.

Selection is good, had plenty of taps and bottle, but too many of them were kicked.

Food is okay...pretty average, but I am a vegetarian.

The only thing that i would consider reasonably priced was the fries. The flights and pints were extremely expensive.

Mikkeller was $9, Delirium Tremens was $10. Flight was around $20 for 5 (decent sized) samples.

I frequent Maloney's when I am home from school, especially for their karaoke nights and live music nights (that's when the most people seem to be there). The dining area is always dead when I'm there, but the bar keeps people coming because of their wide selection. Take a look at their bottle list, because it is EXPANSIVE! They also have a great selection of beers on tap if you're looking for anything non-Macro brews. I've spoken with some bartenders who are very up-to-date on the brews. This is one of the only of its kind in this area of Jersey. Stop by on a Friday or Saturday night to get the local hustle n' bustle; otherwise weekdays are pretty dead.

This would be a great spot for beer dinners!

In reading the reviews, I felt that an update was needed for this place. Their monthly beer tastings are great value and I found the food to be excellent. Plus, the beer pairings seemed to be very intelligently done.

Also, they are slowly rotating out the average beers from their taps and adding much better ones. It's not often in this part of Jersey that you find Aventinus on tap! I'm told that there are plans to go from the 24 taps they have now, to 60.

These guys are on the right track so I'd keep an eye on them.

I stopped in for dinner at about 630pm on a weds.
The bar area was halfway ful but a bit loud. We decided on a table and were seated in the back. Our waitress greeted us immediatly and handed us menues. The food menu looked really good but the beer menu was where it was at. The draught list was a bit above average. But they offer over 250 bottled beers. Basically anything that is offered in NJ was available. Also every style was broken down so it made it very easy to find what you were looking for. I drank a Green Head Hop Head Red and Founders Centennial IPA. I dont know if it was just me but the beers tasted fresher than the beers I buy from most local stores. I definatly plan on going back again

This is a great local bar. The beer selection is through the roof, with 250 bottles and about 24 taps which rotate pretty frequently. The service is fast, and the bartenders are all very personable. Ive only had Mozzarella sticks but they were pretty good and I hear the food is great. The prices are very good and there is usually some type of special going on, which also changes frequently. The bar and dining area are definitely spacious, clean, and pretty well lit. Theres a jukebox, but usually theres music playing over the speaker system at a good volume. They have about 5 flatscreens which makes it a good place to go watch a game. They also get a bunch of local bands and Dj's to play

Overall, you cant beat the beer list, especially in this area, for a good price, with good service. Its my number 1 spot to go now.

Visited this place last Friday nite. Big and spacious. An amazing beer menu. 250 bottled beers and 24 tap beers. Food was good, I heard the Sheppards Pie is great, but I had the buffalo wings, nice and spicey! It is a new place so the service is just starting out and are still learning. But still had no issue, my waiter was friendly and always came back to see if we needed anything. The owner came over and was great. I joined their beer club. Prices are fair. I would say the average bottled beer is around $4. Many different beers to choose from. If this was NY, this place could charge more. I will make this place my "new" bar to drink at. So long Court Jester, hello Maloney's Pub!!
