Went here while visiting Indy for a conference. Wanted to watch the NLCS playoff game. This place has a ton of HDTV's.

For a chain, this place has a decent selection of beers. Three Floyds, Barley Island, Bells, Founders, Dogfish, Stone, etc. were amongst the 30+ taps. Bartender knew his beer as I noticed him helping others select local beers that have their favorite "flavor" of beer.
Food is what you would expect. Wings and burgers. Nothing fancy.
I prefer places with character and aren't part of a chain, but this BWW was close to my hotel in downtown Indy and I'd recommend it as a beer bar.

OK it is a big chain, so you pretty much get what you would expect from a BW3. The wings are definitely good - its what they do after all. Atmosphere is typical sportsbar-ish with good coverage of big screens playing this game and that. I'm not a big sports guy so I was releived to find a couple screens at the bar tuned to CNN.

I've been in here a couple times during the day. The lunch crowd hits this place hard since it is the heart of downtown. I'm not sure what evenings are like, but it is a great location near hotels and retail stores, so I bet it stays busy.

Beer. Good selection of about 50 taps that typically are heavy on the craft and local beers. That was until just before March Madness hit and they doubled up on the macro-brewed junk for the out-of-town crowd. The bartender (awesome) was hopefull that the macros would be cut back down to just a few taps after the Indy 500, but we will see.

Now I am not trying to make money in the bar business, but I would sure love to see a high profile place showcasing local beer while the out of town crowd is here. Indiana has some outstanding beer - Sun King, Upland, Three Floyds, Barley Island,...

Good Bar, great bar staff/manager, good food and some great beer.

While visiting from out of town, I had lunch here at least in part because a local beer vendor told me that they have at least a tap of 3 Floyds along with some other local and regional craft beers. The atmosphere is typical of the chain, with a wide-open, dimly-lit dining room surrounded by bar mirrors and signs, sports memorabilia, and flat-screen TVs. I love wings, so I have no complaints with the long list of wing flavors to go along with the standard bar fare of chicken fingers and burgers.

Regarding the beer, the waitress was kind enough to show me her cheat sheet for what draft selections were available, and there were plenty of nice options. In addition to the sports bar standards, there were a couple of local choices from 3 Floyds, Upland, and Barley Island, as well as some bigger beers I wouldn't have expected to find (DFH World Wide Stout and Founders Breakfast Stout on draft?!).

Regarding the service, our waitress was sweet, but she wasn't the most informative regarding the beer selection, telling me they didn't have any local drafts (despite having a handfull) and not knowing what brewery produced a certain beer I didn't know on the tap list. Overall, though, the trip to this location was exactly what I was looking for and was certainly a better-than-average sports bar experience.

I've been meaning to review this place for a while. My problem is that I compare every beer bar in Indy to all the great beer bars in Philly that I went to when I lived there for a while, which really isn't fair, as this place is great for what it is, and probably the best in Indy.

Atmosphere is that of a typical BWW's. Lots of TVs, most of the people there are drinking BMC, but a few are adventurous. Not a whole lot of character, being a corporate chain, but that's not why I'm there. I'm there for the beer, and this one probably has the best selection of any BWWs in the country.

Quality is superb. Everything tastes fresh and spectacular. Have never had any issues.

Service is great 75% of the time, which means when the right 4 bartenders are there, it's spectacular. There are a couple who know less about the beers they pour than some, but it's still obvious that management took people's knowledge of and passion for craft beer in to account when hiring. 95% of the time I have one of the 4 bartenders who really know their stuff, but when I don't it can be frustrating. Overall though, the ones who do are some of the best bartenders in the city, and it's obvious that they strive to educate the bartenders about beer. I've only been in the bar, so can't talk for the servers in the main dining area.

Selection is great for a BWWs, and great for any bar in the city. Sure, many of the taps are BMC, but the ones that are not are always great choices and often rare and hard to find offerings. In the last few months I've had FFF Apocalypse Cow, FFF Dreadnaught, Stone's IRS from 08, Dogfish Head 120 and Palo Santo, FFF Behemoth, Founder's Imperial Stout, etc etc. I have not seen these at any other bar in the city. Sam, the bar manager, has some great contacts in the industry and is able to get some great stuff in.

Food is BWWs food. I eat it, and I enjoy it, but when I go to a beer bar I often look for food that's more eclectic, and healthy options are ideal also. All things considered though, if I'm going to this place it's more often for the beer and I can easily skip on the food.

Overall, although I usually prefer local places with a bit more character, I can't say that I don't love this place. Sam and Andy and Sebastian and girl who's name I can't think of really know their stuff and try to bring in rarities and promote micros to the masses. How often can you say you've seen 3 BWWs bartenders at tastings and brewfests? The best place to stop at in Indy for something interesting and new.

(From notes)

The atmosphere is very much chain BWW, with a bunch of TVs and brightness. Seemed pretty new, and was clean and accessible in terms of seating, so no complaints there.

However, the focus of the tap lines (and quite a few bottles) on craft was pretty damn impressive. When I visited, a few highlights on tap were Stone IRS '08; Rabid Rabbit; Gumballhead; Double Trouble; Prima Pils; Bigfoot; Oberon; Two Hearted....getting the picture I hope.

There were the obligatory BMC lines and one devoted to Sam; but what the hell...not an issue for me really relative to the other lines. Pretty reasonable in terms of what I got; the brews were fresh and handled well. Service was good, and even knowledgeable about the brews (sat at the bar and chatted with the bartender). Nice touch there.

Bottle selection was just OK, but held some solid brews from Stone, New Belgium, and 3F's.

Overall, really great brews, but unfortunately just stuck in a chain setting. From the conversations that I had, it is really clear that the folks responsible for the beer lineup are serious folks and committed to great beer. Definitely worth a stop when you are in the area.

BW's is really the ONLY viable downtown location for BA'ers. True, it is a typical BW's in food and atmosphere (which frankly I am ok with) BUT Sam is very much attempting to have the tap list appeal to the craft beer crowd. Over the past six months, he has brought in numerous tasty brews on tap such as Behemoth, Ruination, Palo Santo Marron, Hopslam, Expedition and the like and he continues to try to bring in more unique offerings.

Sam will only succeed in bringing in more on the tap list IF the downtown folks support his endeavors. I and a small cadre of coworkers do our best to do so and hope others will as well.

For those of us around after the Deweese BW's and its alter ego closed, we remember what a downtown void there was for craft beer even with the opening of Scotty's. (As an aside, Scottys is far better for eye candy especially on a Fri/Sat night!) I would hate for that to happen again because the ownership of the ne BW's comes to the conclusion that the craft brew crowd just isn't that profitable.

**Note: Check out the High Gravity night, May 9, at 4pm for a great selection with a couple of hard to find draft selections.
