On tap at the brewery/restaurant.
Appearance: Clear golden yellow. White head shortly lived.
Smell: Fairly faint aroma consisted of malts and sublte grassy notes.
Taste: Malty with a slight hop finish. Seems like it had the slight taste of a wheat beer in here somewhere. Decent taste for this style of beer.
Mouthfeel: Very crisp and refreshing. Super light body.
Drinkability: While not a favorite style of mine I could easily enjoy a few of these on a warmer day.
Good beer from Calhoun's, I do suggest anyone visiting Calhoun's to get a sampler to start out with. While you could never fully enjoy a beer from a mixed smapler it will definitely point you in the right direction.

I've never had a kolsch before but heard that they are very lager-like in characteristics. Poured from a 2 liter growler into an imperial pint glass. Color is bright piss yellow, very clear, with a 3 finger rocky head that leaves rings and big patches of lace on the glass (the head/lacing definitely raised the appearance score). Has a metallic import lager scent (Heineken, etc.) - grassy/grainy with some floral hops. Tastes also reminds me of the import lagers, but with some diacetyl (butterscotch) and citric/floral flavors that let you know it's an ale (however, if you told me it was a lager I probably wouldn't think twice about it). The beer is very refreshing and goes down easy. Good session ale. Very non-offensive - would be a good craft beer to introduce to macroheads.

I sampled this brew at the pub after a day of 10+ miles of hiking in Shenandoah Natl Park. Was looking for a crisp refreshing brew to perk me up.
The beer comes in a pint glass, clear bright gold in color with a small bleached white surface layer of head. Aroma is mild with some grainy lager malts coming through and a faint grassy hop scent. First sip is light and refreshing, body is thin and easy drinking. The carbonation is nice and rolls over my tongue leaving a prickly sensation. The flavor is mild with grainy malts and fairly sweet overall. This moves to a slightly grassy hop finish. This is a tasty brew and tastes great after a day in the 85 degree sun! Also went well with the Bruschetta appetizer we had.
