American Amber / Red Ale |  6.10% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
Native Amber is an audacious blend of hops and malt. Caramel and biscuit notes carry the Cascade and Cluster hop additions through to an enjoyably round finish. The malt complexity proves rich and the dry-hopped character is invigorating.

The appearance is a nice translucent amber, with a nice bone colored head. The smell too floral for me. No yeast,or malty odor, almost more like a sports drink. If it had a bite,it would tast just like an IPA,maybe why I didnt care for this beer. Too grassy, metalic and citrus/floral taste...sorry to be so hard on this beer.

Yummy tall boy cans! Thanks to rudzud for this interesting guy. No date unfortunately.

Pours a decent fizzy slight creamy 1/2 finger head that fades at a med to slower pace, decent soapy lacing, semi clear for being as dark as it is, dark maroon cranberry slight mahogany brown colored.

Nose delivers what promises, amber malts, caramel, little toasted reddish malt notes, almost a candy like note but not quite there mostly just caramel, with a bit of a grassy slightly earthy hop note in the background, faint candied orange peel.

Taste brings more malts, more brown malts this time, a little biscuit with toasted malts, some reddish candy malts with more caramel and almost but not quite candy syrup again, never quite hits the candy syrup level. A mild toasted dark caramel brown malt flavor leads into hops, with a bit of a spicy grassy hop note, that even turns earthy and a touch of a bitter orange peel note. The creamy brown malt and spicy hop with mild orange peel seem to clash a little unfortunately. Other than that it is enjoyable and pretty tasty. The finish is where the clash really seems to happen, the drying effect brings more creamy brown malts out but leaves a weird bitterness because of that spicy earthy hop, and a little bitter orange peel just wedges the nail between the two and creates a long bitter not so happy aftertaste unfortunately.

Mouth is med bod, a little creamy, nice carb.

Overall decent, mixed though, nice characters all around, but that clash of hte bitter spicy earthy orange peel hops with the creamy brown malts seems to knock this down just a bit. Otherwise this is a nice enjoyable beer.

Received as an extra in a trade and poured into a Duvel tulip.

A - Poured a nice darker red/amber hue with a thin one finger head that faded to leave a light quarter inch off white head and light lacing.

S - Aromas are heavier on the biscuit and caramel, though there is some Cascade hops tucked behind it. Lightly fruity malts, faint faint pine.

T - Taste is rather malty sweet and caramel heavy, bread/biscuit, floral hops, faint faint citrus with more sweetness towards the end. Very, very light pine bitterness.

M - Mouthfeel is a bit on the stickier side, decent carbonation, just drinks heavy.

O - Overall these guys wanted a malt/biscuit heavy Amber ale and well, the succeeded. That being said, this is not my kind of amber...I like much more hops in it. Not my thing.
