Crisp and clean, Horny Toad is a premium blonde ale with a hint of Noble hop bitterness to balance the two-row and pilsner malt body. This refreshing libation is a great introduction to craft beer and COOP Ale Works.

Horney Toad Blonde has a thick, white head, and a hazy, very bubbly blonde appearance, with moderate lacing. The aroma is of oh so slight spice (white pepper?) and grassy notes, with sweet white bread. The flavor is of a touch of lemon, along with white bread crust and a somewhat unpleasant mineral water twang. Horney Toad Blonde has a medium body and a semi-dry finish.

Ordered on tap from the New York bar at Winstar. Bartender said people either love it or hate it. I suppose given the dichotomous choice, I'll take love it.

1/2 finger head, some lace, straw to yellow color. Smells grainy, kinda like a grain silo, and a little sweet. Nice taste, follows the smell with sweet graininess. Feels a bit thinner than my theoretical perfect blonde, but does such a woman exist...? It's a question that's intrigued mankind since antiquity. But I digress. It's a pretty tasty beer at 1030 am on a monday in the casino, and i shall rate it according to that sentiment.

Poured from a can into a tulip glass. Bright clear yellow color with good white head and lacing. Sweet, slightly grassy smell and taste. Clean tasting but no finish to speak of. A decent blonde.

I am finally getting around to some of the many drop-offs from my local, in-person trader, @tone77 . He has been mighty generous to me in the past to the point that I am now awash in beer. It certainly helps the cause of The CANQuest (tm), though.

From the CAN: "Crisp and clean, Horny Toad is a premium blonde ale with a hint of Noble hop bitterness to balance the two-row and pilsner malt body. This refreshing libation is a great introduction to craft beer and COOP Ale Works."; "IBU 25 SRM 4".

I Crack!ed open the vent & beCAN a very slow, gentle C-Line Glug since this one had some age on it. It puffed up nicely to form just better than two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, bone-white head with excellent retention. The color was a gorgeous Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7) with NE-quality clarity, calling forth The Gelt Gang of Mammon, Midas & Croesus from their slumber on my couch. They watched the Pirates beat the hated Cardinals & then stayed over to party into the night. The brewery measured the SRM as 4, but it was deeper & darker than Yellow. Just my $0.02. Nose had a honey-like biscuitiness & I would have guessed it to be a GER Pils rather than an American Blonde Ale. Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste had a pleasant sweetness, very honey-like with a slight biscuitiness. I might have preferred it to be a tad more biscuity, but that is my taste & not the style's. It was very easy drinking & just the sort of thing that would fit right into my beach-bound cooler. In OKCOK, they have a river so I guess that such would be their equivalent. Finish was semi-sweet, but if you were to call it semi-dry, I would not put up much of an argument. I just felt that it was a touch too sweet for me. YMMV.

$ 1.65 (Including tax and discount)/12 oz can ($ 0.138/oz) from Total Wine-Forum, Selma, TX. Reviewed 3/25/19.
Can stamped “08/29/18” on bottom. On shelf at store. Stored at 42 degrees and served at 42 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter.
Appearance – 3.
Body – Yellow, hazy.
Head – Large (Maximum 4.5 cm, aggressive center pour), white, medium density, diminishing to a two to four mm ring and a rocky partial layer.
Lacing – Fair – narrow bands of tiny to small bubbles, connected by thin columns.
First pour – Light yellow, very slight haze.
Aroma – 3 – Weak aroma of malt and weaker of diacetyl.
Flavor – 3 - Very weak malt and hops, slightly bitter. No alcohol (5.3% ABV), no dimethylsulfide, no diacetyl.
Palate – 3 – Thin, watery, soft carbonation.
Impression and interpretation – 3. Did not age well. Some of the diacetyl noted on the nose would have improved the flavor.

Appearance
Pours to creamy white head that falls to thin layer and laces sporadically. Hazy gold blonde color.

Aroma
Clean, crackery malts, slight fruit ester and soft noble hops.

Flavor
Honeylike, buttermilk biscuit, pale malt flavor, sweet middle and a tangy, bitter balance in the finish. Hop flavors are soft and floral/grassy/citrus. Not at all an APA style, closer to a Kolsch or Helles in the hop profile.

Mouthfeel
Light to Medium, Moderate CO2, no harshness, burn or astringency

Overall
A hearty yet light blonde ale. Bitterness is substantial but not at Sierra Nevada Pale levels. Appearance is underwhelming. Has some good meaty ale characteristics--won't mistake for a Pils. A good all-occasion quencher.
