Pours a fascinating black-brown-red with very white head and lacing.
At first this smells massively like BA George! So much chocolate, recedes to lactic, celery and rye. Some booze. Very faint bandaids.
Taste is lots of rye and peppercorn/juniper. Roast. Almost a cloved-orange note.
Mouthfeel is quite thick and highly carbed.
Interesting and rewarding traditional ale. Worth a try.

A- Starts with a big two finger thick off white head that slowly disappears leaving behind lots of sticky lacing. Beer is black in color, turning ruby when held up to the light
S- Not overly pungent... Mostly a bitter rye aroma with a healthy amount of alcohol
T- A smooth rye flavor with very light notes of malts and spices. Little if any alcohol notes despite the hints the nose leads on
M- Very smooth. Medium bodied with light carbonation
O- A very smooth, easy to drink beer. Personally, I prefer a Roggenbier with a bit more hop character, but this was quite enjoyable

Lost about a third of the bottle from spewing when I uncapped the bottle, but got a solid pint of a cloudy, brown beer with a chunky tan head.
Rich, roasted malt smell. Medium roast coffee and a bit of smokiness and some faint spiciness.
Malt-forward with touches of bitter chocolate accentuated with a nice hop bitterness. A light sourness not unlike Guinness stout. All flavor components blend well together.
Medium-bodied, smooth and clean .
A very delightful rye beer. Very nicely balanced.

Pours reddish brown with a two finger light tan head with good retention and lacing. The aroma has rye, spices, bread, yeast, and caramel.
The taste is much like the aroma with rye, spices, bread, yeast, some dark roasted malt and caramel. Somewhat sweet, with some bitterness from the dark roasted malt for balance.
Medium bodied, well carbonated, and smooth. Not sure if this is a Roggenbier. The label says Farmhouse Ale. Pretty good either way.
Edited after I tried this again on 5/12. The first bottle didn't seem right.

Popped this open to soak my wounds after a fantastic UK team beat my Jayhawks for the Title. Oh well...
Scandinavian Farmhouse or Roggenbier? Difference? Not sure. But this beer looks black in the glass. Very white, dense, foamy head. Looks like a Guinness almost.
Rich aroma albeit not all that complex. Some roasted malt and raisin. Dark bread. Hints of soft chocolate.
The taste picks up a bit. The raisin is first, but quick. Followed by a tannin coffee thing that is also quick. Some spice and roast carry the middle and the bready, rye finish is soothing.
A nice beer. Glad I chose it for my remedy.

This beer was a nice surprise !! Pours a murky brown. Fairly clear and light. Lots of tan foamy head. Smells spicy. Tons going on. Tastes sweet and yet... Not too sweet. Lots of rye spice on the finish. Very complex. A nice relatively medium body. Overall a very nice beer

A: Pours a cloudy light to medium brown in color with a half finger tall light beige head that reduces to a thin layer over the entire surface of the beer with a thicker ring at the edges of the glass. Very good retention qualities for the head. Moderate lacing is observed.
S: Lots of pleasant rye spice notes with some earthiness. Not the strongest aroma for a beer but what is there is very pleasant.
T: Great flavors in this beer, follows the notes from the smell with the primary component being the rye spiciness. There is some bready malts and quite a bit of yeast flavor as well. I like the complexity in the flavors of this beer.
M: Medium to full bodied with moderate to high amounts of carbonation. Chewy.
O: A very tough style to find here in the US and I'm glad that I was able to find an try it (and it seems like this is a pretty good example of the style). There is no presence of alcohol which makes this one very easy to drink. Would gladly have another.

A: The beer is very cloudy brown in color. It poured with a quarter-finger high dense beige head. The beer has very good retention properties and consistently left a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface.
S: There are aromas of spicy malts in the nose along with notes of earthy yeast and smoke.
T: The taste is similar to the smell and has spicy flavors from the rye along with notes of fruity yeast.
M: It feels medium-bodied and a bit chewy on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The alcohol is well hidden from the taste of this beer. It is definitely a lot easier to drink compared to other beers I’ve tried from this style.

Produced a modest, creamy beige head over a dark, auburn beer that was hazy. The head lasted a short while and left minimal lacing.
The aroma is brought to life with fumes of alcohol containing a good amount of spice. Spices include peppercorn, probably rye, and licorice. Overall, there is a toasted malt aroma with caramel and pine tar in the background.
Modest sweetness with a light bitter touch. The malts are far more present than the hops and, surprisingly, there is some yeast presence as well. The spices nibble at the tongue with some peat flavors as well as dark stone fruits.
Has a medium body, a little chewy, with fizzy carbonation. The alcohol plays a role but is not dominant.
Presented in a fish-eye glass, this is an easy drinking beer, especially given its alcohol, and would be appropriate as an evening cocktail.

Appearance: Thick beige one finger creamy head with long retention. Brown leather color. Thick, hazy, unfiltered.
Smell: Roasted malts. Cocoa and toffee. Rye. Spice. Bread.
Taste: Sourdough rye bread, cocoa flavors. Ripe fruits. Pepper, caramel malt.
Mouthfeel: Malts contribute a thick and creamy mouth.
Overall: Delicious, well balanced and flavorful.

Poured into a Unibroue tulip-flute glass
Able to produce a massive, fluffy head of small bubbles and dark tan color, which slowly settles to a 0.5cm cap atop the beer. Sides of glass are fairly well covered in residual lacing and streaks, quite nice. Body is an opaque, but glossy, dark brown wood stain color. In general, an amazing-looking beer.
Aroma of toasted malts, caramel malts, (mostly) milk chocolate, coffee with cream, and a bit of that distinct tanginess that seems to come from roasted malt and/or rye. Quite good, very reminiscent of a stout with some rye added.
Taste is similar to smell, as others have mentioned. Roasted and caramel malts begin, with noticeable milk chocolate and coffee-with-cream flavors. Still detectable bitterness. Mid-palate can detect some tangy rye flavor and modest smoke. Closes out with continued roasted malt, but I also pick up some dried fruit, raisins and/or prunes, particularly as the beer warms. No trace of ethanol at all, somewhat surprisingly.
The beer's body is in the medium to medium-light range, with enjoyably mid-level carbonation. The resultant feel is a smooth, somewhat bready feel that seems to be about right for this beer.

Pours a hazy dark amber/ruby color with a huge pillowy tan head that slowly settles leaving chunky lacing on the glass.
The aroma is slightly grainy with some sour and pepper notes from the rye. Some steely metallic aromas as well.
The taste is fruity, mainly raisin but not in an oxidized sort of way. The raisin mixes well with the sour and peppery rye. Some ripe grape and tart cherry. The malt is lightly roasted, subtle chocolate. There is also a spice note from the yeast that I can't quite figure.
The feel is light with airy carbonation. Lightly sweet on the palate with enough of a bitter offset for good balance. Good drinkability.
I like the beer but its not very complex. It is well made and balanced. Perhaps display more of the rye or some juniper.

500ml bottle. No date. Served in a tulip.
Pours a deep dark brown with some ruby red highlights, almost opaque. A vigorous pour gave me a big 3 finger head of dense beige foam. Settles slowly and stays pillowy. Thick lacing. Peering into the glass you can see cascading bubbles.
Aroma of caramel and spicy malt. Notes of creamy vanilla and earthy hops. Malt for days, can't get any of the alcohol.
Flavor is rich with malt. Sweet, bready, toffee are all in the mix. Peppery spice comes on big as well. Dark fruits morph into a red wine-like earthiness. Finish introduces some roasted notes and a sour twinge. Sweet and spicy malt lingers on the tongue long after the sip. A great flavor.
Medium-full body with medium-high carbonation. Really well integrated and supportive. A fantastic, silky feel. Only (slight) knock is it gets a touch thick over time.
My first brew from Beer Here and I'm definitely impressed!

Pours brown with a sudsy head that leaves frilly lacing.
Big rye on the nose, caramel, pepper.
Same as nose. Rye spice dominates, caramel sweetness with more rye piled on top. Peppery near the finish.
A fuller medium body, tight carbonation.
My first Roggenbier. I love what American brewers have done with rye, and the same goes for this German counterpart.

Poured from the bottle a dark caramel brown with a rich and creamy light tan head. Massive amounts of lacing left behind.
Aroma of rye, molasses and chocolate malts.
The taste is rye, raisin and chocolate malts with a smokey finish.
Medium bodied with a moderate carbonation.
Not sure if this is a farmhouse ale as labeled but not bad.

500 ml bottle, poured into a pint glass.
A: Pours a hazy brown hue with about three fingers of eggshell head that retains very nicely. Lacing is extremely sticky and leaves a nice frothy film on the glass.
S: Spicy rye really stands out, along with toffee, burnt bread, and some dark fruit notes.
T: Some dried dark fruit at first gives way to the most distinct rye character I have ever experienced in a beer. Rich toffee notes combine with floral hop aromas, creating a very balanced finish. This beer is liquid pumpernickel!
Notes: Flavorful, full-bodied, and extremely complex. This is one of my favorite rye beers I have tried to date. This beer coats the palate with the best of the rest of them. My favorite part about this beer is that I finally got to use the word "pumpernickel" in a review. But in all seriousness, it's an awesome brew, and although a bit on the pricy side it's definitely worth trying.

Pours a dark brown non see through hue with beautiful carbonation that leaves behind a frothy two finger head and sporadic lacing,the smell is spicy rye,toasted malts,plums and toffee,the mouthfeel is medium bodied and has tastes of spicy rye,burnt toffee,dates and finished with a burnt rye and stonefruit finish and overall nice and different but probably wouldnt revisit straight away cheers.

500mL bottle purchased from Slowbeer.
Dark chocolate with a large and solid tan head that continues to rise after pouring. Good retention and plentiful lace trails.
Completely did not expect this. Akin to a Scotch ale, with dark palm sugar, cinnamon, allspice, Christmas cake, almonds, walnuts and a touch of diacetyl. Pretty restrained roasted malt character. Only mild coffee and cocoa notes. The rye is barely perceptible.
Still dominated by big malty, sweet, fortified character, but the spicy, peppery rye kick provides a welcome counter. Loads of muscatels and other dark fruits.
Chewy and luscious, as expected for a rye beer. Moderate carbonation buzz on the tongue. Nice.
Pretty solid offering that would be brilliant with Christmas pudding, or almost any other dark fruit based dessert. Still, seems one-dimensional and in need of much more roast malt character.

Poured from a 16.9 oz bottle into a red wine glass.
Don't let the term "farmhouse ale" on the label fool you, this is not a saison.
Attractive dark topaz/chocolate brown color, nearly opaque except right at the edge of the glass. Nice coffee colored 1/2" head that recedes to about 1/8", comes back nicely with a swirl. Leaves some spotty lacing.
The smell really shows off the rye well. Subtle roasty notes, a little fudgy chocolate, rye spiciness, toasted grain and pumpernickel bread.
Rye spice leads on the taste with some caramel and light chocolate, followed by a little acidic espresso. Ends with some grassy hops and a little grain and pleasant sourness, kind of like fermenting bread dough, that lingers in the aftertaste. Well balanced, and hides the alcohol content well.
Nicely textured, medium bodied and creamy. Gets creamier as it warms. Coats the tongue lightly. Seems to carry the flavors of the beer just right.
Haven't had a lot of straight roggenbiers, so I judged this against other beers made with rye I've had. Awesome rye character in this beer and a surprising amount of complexity. Probably the best rye beer I've ever had.
