Bottle shared by Pino for my 22nd birthday. 500ml into a tulip. Can't believe we managed two roggenbier ticks in the same night.
Poured a deep brownish-violet, mocha head with great retention and modest lacing. Nose has some light chocolate and subtle rye notes, a hint of smoke. Taste has chocolate, rye, cocoa powder, minor Saison notes and great yeast flavours. Fairly full body, modest carbonation. A fantastic roggenbier, great taste with a nice rye integration.

Deep brown, copper wit one finger of off white head, some lace left behind. Smell is malty with lots of dark rye, some dark sugars, spicy, light fruity/berry quality. Taste is full of dark rye, malty and spicy, lightly yeasty with a good dose of fruit, caramel and a light sugary presence. Medium carb, medium weight, decent feel. This was quite enjoyable though felt like something was missing that would make this a great beer, would like to try some more stuff from these guys as this brew showed alot of promise.

Brown coloured bodied, big soapy head, very lacey. Malty and very yeasty.Corriander, pepper, yeasty,toasty bready, salty, licorice, caramel, oily, rye.It's the style,would like more boldness. Danish Farmhouse, but still only so-so drinkable. Thanks Peeno.

Enjoyed on tap at the Armsby Abbey
A - Poured into a tulip a clearish garnet hue with one finger of creamy light brown head that leaves a nice blanket and side lacing.
S - Smokey malts, light dark fruits and chocolate with some light nut aromas too.
T - More of the very nice chocolate, dark fruits, light nuts, super light smoke, and rye malts.
M - Nice and creamy and pleasant. Very drinkable and somewhat thick.
O - Wow, really nice beer from Denmark here. Would definately buy this again.

A fine rye beer, and it does indeed deserve to be called a Roggenbier given its high rye content and unfiltered nature. I know it's not German, but until we've got more Scandinavian styles listed, it will do. This Scandinavian farmhouse rye pours a murky brown with a foamy head that settles to a thin cap. In the nose, you get notes of bubblegum, spice, fresh rye bread, some fruitiness and a touch of sweetness with just the barest hint of cocoa. A thick beer, almost mouthcoating, with a nice smoothness, and a touch of grainy sourness. The predominant flavors, though are of smooth and spicy rye. Very little of the cocoa notes you get with rye sometimes. Bready and full in the mouth. A very nice beer.

Delicious rye beer! I let it warm a bit out of the fridge, then poured a good sized, foamy, frothy, tan head that settled after a little and a few lacings. Color is a hazy/cloudy apricot copper. Aroma is fairly mild - rye, malt, hint of yeast. Flavor is similar with only a little sweetness to stand up to some big tang although the carbonation seems fairly smooth. Also a big smoke component that works real well. Finish is like flavor, kind of long and has some alcohol in it. Great brew! Very easy to drink more.

A - dark reddish brown with tan head
S - very sweet malt, caramel with walnuts, dried figs, blackberry jam
T - sweet slight bitterness, rye malt, toast, brown sugar, dried dark fruit
M - medium to lightly heavy
D - very nice beer but definitely a once in a night drink as it's so thick-tasting. highly recommend.

310ml glass at The Local Taphouse, Darlinghurst.
Pours a deep brown-red colour with a nice beige with hints of jaffa head of foam. Not much lacing to speak of.
Smell is solid. A good deal of rye. Some fruit, just a touch of strawberry and some dark fruit as well as a bit of booze.
Tastes very malty, plenty of malt and rye. Think dark fancy restaurant bread rye and that is what it tastes like, plus some alcohol warmness. Danieelol, you.mightn't like:-) A little bit of spice.
The spice helps make this drinkable, cutting it up just a touch otherwise the maltiness would smash this up in a bad way.
For what they are doing, this works! Big ABV has some added things, booze obviously, but for a big rye beer, I think they'd be happy with how this turned out.

Pours a lovely red-brown colour, quite clear, but deep in hue, with a fine but subsiding head of mocha beige. Body is quite light, and extremely fluid, which is something of a shame. Looks pretty good overall. The colour is particularly nice.
Nose is spicy with rye, but also with a touch of booziness. Hints of estery fruit come through as well, mostly dark dried plums and dates which work with the booze character, and some slight banana notes. As it warms, a more pronounced pepper note arises as well. It's interesting.
Taste is dark and indeed spicy, but with a definite bite of booze. Slight phenol on the back, but it's smoothed slightly by the estery characters. Some fresh fruitiness comes through at places towards the back, giving slight red apple and plum flavours. Feel is very light, but it does add a certain rustic saison-like charm.
Overall, a good beer. I like some rye in my beer, and I particularly like a lot of rye in my beer. This one gains spice, light acidity and bite from the addition, perhaps at the expense of body.

A- Dark brown caramel colored body with a nice foamy thick light kahaki colored head that leaves beautiful plentiful lacing
S- Lots of burnt brown sugars and breads some caramel.
T- A total malt bomb, thick and juicy malts tons of breads a touch of hop bitterness. This is a must for malt lovers really delicious balanced brew.
M- Thick body with moderate carbonation.
O- I expected nothing and was very pleasantly surprised, definitely something to pick up if you see it.

A: Poured from a bottle to a mug. Had a dark brown color and a murky consistency. There was an inch and a half of foamy, long-lasting head. Good lacing.
S: A subtle aroma of malt, coffee, and a nutty quality.
T: Tasted of malt, coffee, rye, a little chocolate, caramel, a touch of hops and that nutty quality. Definitely a complex beer. Very unusual and very tasty.
M: A good amount of carbonation with a somewhat earthy finish. Medium-bodied.
O: This is the first roggenbier I've had, so I don't have any frame of reference for the style. That being said, this is a highly enjoyable beer.

A: Pours an opaque brown with a long-lasting off-white head, some lace.
S: Rye spice, dark bread, and earthy spicy hops.
T: Dark bready notes, very malty but well balanced with the considerable grassy earthy hop character which lasts. Complex spice taste in the finish.
M: Full-bodied, smooth, easy drinking for its size. Would make a great winter beer.
O: The best I've had from Beer Here. A complex tasty effort that stays with you. I still don't think I've had a traditional German Roggenbier, and this probably doesn't satisfy the style, but it's darn good.

Picked this up at West Lakeview Liquors. The bottle date and batch number fields are blank. Served in a tulip.
A - A voluminous tan foam settles to a thick cap, leaving behind glass-coating lace. Mostly opaque dark reddish-brown color.
S - Rye! Some mildly spicy and savory rye notes mingle with brown sugar, milk chocolate, coffee, lightly toasted grains, and a tough of Belgian yeast. Reminds me of Coffee Crisp a little.
T - The taste is a bit of a step down from the aroma - substantially less sweetness and coffee present. Instead it's mostly rye malt and roasty bitterness, with hints of sugar and caramel. I was surprised to see this was 8%, as I didn't get any obvious alcohol.
M - Pleasant active carbonation, lightly sticky texture, and a chewy, bready medium body. Again, not alcohol warmth is present.
D - I've only had two Roggenbiers, and they weren't at all similar. To be fair, this beer says it's a Scandinavian Farmhouse Ale - perhaps it's been miscategorized a bit. Still, it's a nice and unique brew that I'd have again - a bit pricey though.

Slightly hazy, dark amber w/ a moderate creamy tan head w/ good retention.
Lightly herbal hop aroma supported by bready toasted malt that is very much like pumpernickel bread.
Quite balanced between hops and malt, both of which compete on and off for attention. The hop character is lightly herbal, while the malt starts slightly sweet with a dark caramel character, then takes on a bit of spice with a wonderful bready toast complexity. Finishes semi-dry with a noticeably touch of spice from the rye and a slight touch of roast that lingers on the palate with a hint of chocolate.
Moderately full bodied with a slightly creamy mouthfeel. Carbonation is perhaps a touch above moderate, but without a carbonic bite. Bitterness is firm but not harsh. Very, very, slight roast astringency very late in the finish, but not at all unpleasant.
Overall is wonderfully balanced with a flavor that keeps on giving well into the finish.

A - Brown beer with some yellow on the sides. Bit of an off-white head that faded to a ring. Some random stick left on the sides.
S - Caramel, brown sugar malts, little bit of smoke, rye, coffee.
T - Really unique beer, you get the rye, the coffee, some good sweet caramel.
M - A little bit on the light side of medium bodied, moderate carbonation.
O - Unique beer, tasted pretty good, enjoyed drinking it. Don't believe I've had a Roggenbier before, but if this is a good take on the style I'd be willing to drink more of these.

This beer pours a hazy, dark burnt amber hue, with two fat fingers of creamy, foamy, and bubbly beige head, which leaves some pretty consistent layers of frilly lace around the glass in its strung-out wake.
It smells of dense, toasted bready malt, spicy rye, herbal hops, oily nuts, peppy yeast, and a bit of edgy booze. The taste is gritty caramel malt, sweet, zingy rye grain alcohol, pithy nuts, dry chocolate, treacle, and dusty leafy, earthy, and herbal hops - complex, sure, but not overly so.
The carbonation is average, bordering on being a wee bit zippy, the body a stoic medium weight, a little clammy, but generally smooth. It finishes quite off-dry, the rye and caramel notes still leaning heavily in that direction, a tugging hoppiness and somewhat metallic booziness providing a capable counterpoint.
The label proclaims this a 'modern Scandinavian farmhouse ale', so I'll take this to mean that Norwegian farmhands prefer different kinds of beer than their Belgian counterparts. Anyways, this is pretty much what I expected, given my until-now only academic exposure to Roggenbiers - the rye hardly shy about stealing the show, for better or for worse, adding to an unfiltered and duly interesting beer. Glad I got to finally try one.

Bottle purchased from Green’s on Ponce in Atlanta.
Pours a dark brown color with a light tan head that leaves solid lacing.
Smells of dark malts with large amounts of breadiness, milk chocolate, and spicy rye. Also present are mild amounts of herbal hops and very slight hints of white grapes.
Tastes very similar to how it smells. Mildly sweet dark malts up front with slight amounts of roast and milk chocolate. Joining in shortly thereafter are spicy rye, light smoke, and heavy bread flavors. Near the end the flavor profile sweetens with hints of white grapes and raisins, fading out into a mildly bitter ending. Mouthfeel is very good, with grainy carbonation.
Overall I thought this beer was very good, a whole lot of things going on and they all played off of each other very well. Well worth a shot.

Finally, a bottle of Roggenbier for me to try.
Pours a murky brown with a huge 3 inch puffy tan head that settles to a 1 inch cap. Thin rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark malts, bread, and some pine-like hop aromas. Taste is of dark malts, bread, smoke-like flavors, and a spicy hop finish. Mild hop/smoky bitterness on the palate after each sip. A good level of carbonation with a crisp yet smooth mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a nice spicy/smoky flavor on the tongue. I am glad I found one of these to sample.

On draft at Churchkey in D.C.
The beer is a dark chestnut hue, with 1/4" of tan head that leaves sparse lacing on the snifter. The aroma is very inviting, with malt, bread, pine, hops. The flavor surpasses my expectations. Rye and hops are balanced extremely well, and the beer has a bold, delicious flavor. The beer is medium bodied, with solid carbonation. Alcohol is masked quite well. A terrific brew, I would certainly have this again.

On tap, served in a tiny snifter. This was a GREAT GREAT surprise for me how good this beer was. A definite repeat for me. A great rye beer which I just noticed is classified as a roggenbier.
Beer is brown and mostly clear with a haloed off white head of small bubbles, some lacing, low carbonation.
Aroma is bready with a hint of yeast character, nice sweetness, good malt feel to this one.
Beer is medium in body and has this almost peaty sort of flavor and feel to it. It is mildly dry on the finish but the malt and yeast character really carry this beer to that finish very well. I really enjoyed this beer a lot and would have it again, and I would really like to try it in the bottle.

Pours dark chestnut brown with a big tan head. There are hints of hazy amber around the edges and lots of lacing.
Nose is dominated by rye and chocolate malts, and the malts are heavily roasted with the sweetness taking a back seat. Nice and spicy character overall in the nose.
Taste has a sweeter milky lactose character up front which is backed up by a big roasted chocolate malt foundation. Then there's the rye which is especially noticeable in the finish and leaves a spicy tingle on the tongue.
The mouthfeel is highly carbonated and crazy smooth which is to be expected with the heavy dose of rye.
I'm a huge fan of dark rye beers so I figured I'd like this one, and it didn't disappoint. Hardly a farmhouse style beer, but no reason to let stylistic semantics get in the way of a great beer. Recommended.

Pours a medium brown color with a good off-white head. Decent retention and falls into a thin cap. The nose brings forward a good amount of spicy rye plus some pine-needle character. Flavor pulls back on the pine and is more earthy with some rye. Also some toasted bread and a bit of faint sweetness. Medium body with a good amount of bitterness and spice. Interesting. This is something I'd have again.

First off this is no Belgian-style farmhouse/saison,this a Scandanavian-style farmhouse ryse,the style needs to be updated.Poured into an imperial nonic a deeply hazed russet with a large blooming off white head atop.Aromas of chocolate malt and lighter spicy rye,not really in your face but the rye is there.Somewhat sharp and lactic rye flavors overtop of toasted grain,the hops give off a leafy herbal quality.This isnt a hop bomb infused ry ale,the rye is pronounced and is the main component of the beer,its pretty damn good.

As I'm part Finnish, I'm always interested to try "Scandinavian" style beers, and at the same time a fan of rye beers and good farmhouse beers, so hopefully this hits right on for me.
Pours a frothy almost 2 finger head that starts smaller but rises continually to almost 2 fingers, then just sits around and doesn't want to fade, but leaves a slight lacing when it finally does. The beer is a darker murky ruby copper brown color with barely hints of light coming through.
Nose explodes with rye, spicy fruity rye dominates, followed behind by some darker rustic malts, hints of caramel and reddish toasty malts, some soft but spicy yeast bursting through but disappearing quickly. Deeper in comes some roasty porter like creamy aromas. Also some spicy and light earthy hops, and mild grassy hops.
Taste brings more of the same, starting this time with dark malts, some reddish toasty malts, plenty of crystal malts bringing a slight caramel, in there is some rye as well, not as dominant as the nose had but plenty of spicy rye, and hints of roasted creamy porter flavors. Some hops make themselves known as well, with some herbal hops, a bit vegetal and earthy, hints of spicy hops too with some decent bitterness. A very light spicy character with hints of rustic farmhouse like flavors. Finishes a bit bitter with some lingering hops, fairly dry as well, the spicy character comes out a bit more on the finish, both some of the farmhouse saison spicy yeast as well as the rye.
Mouth is med to a bit heavier bodied, good carbonation.
Overall not really what I expected, more like a dark brown ale with some rye fermented with a hint of saison yeast. The spices come out a bit more on the finish, but are barely there. Not sure if this is really what they typically drink as a farmhouse saison style in Scandinavia, but it's interesting. The herbal hops are a bit of a take away for me, but also probably usual for the area.
