This place has their game TIGHT. The place does great business, stays packed, has everything - from deserts - to soda - to food - and, of course, beer. Everything is world-class, too.

Huge tap list, huge bottle list, beer brewed specially for them by Cigar City (Soggy Loaf/Pumpernickel Rye Porter), and frequent cask tappings make this place a force to be reckoned with on the Tampa beer scene. Frankly, I don't think anyone can hang at this point.

Atmosphere is great, if a bit frenetic. Quality is phenomenal. Service is great. Selection of everything is jaw-dropping. The confections and deserts are stunning. The food is delicious and generously portioned. The prices are reasonable.

Datz is a must if you are in the area.

Don't let the "Deli" name fool you, this place has all the beer you want. The bottle selection is great and 20+ taps had a great variety. They also have beer tastings on Tuesdays and are in the process of adding more tap lines. The food was amazing and the staff was all very friendly. Parking was a little tight, but once you find a place you won't have to go anywhere else until 10:00 when they close. Wine and cheese is also one of their specialties, but I did not find a better seletion of beer in the Tampa area.

I guess they resolved the parking issue, they added a parking lot about 400ft down the road.

They have these home made chips on the side; drizzled with Maytag blue cheese saucey stuff & scallions, crazy good.

They had only six drafts, but you know they should have unusual drafts, instead sierra nevada(yawn) and blah blah. I mean you only got 6 so why not stick brooklyn reserve or some crazy dogfish head like Fort, They did have Cigar City Mudoro Brown for $3.00 pint nice deal.

There bottle selection is huge, and priced up & down.I had a double dead guy in the bottle and a great brisket sandwich.

I had a cream sickle cake thing WOW.and I got the best smoked salmon to go.

This is the place i goto every time i drive up to cigar city in tampa. Good draft beer selection, especially soggy loaf, a beer made by cigar city exclusively for them, always seem to have a couple other cigar city drafts as well. They also seem to always have a special cask ale or 2 for sale, i think it is a rotating lineup.

The food here is top notch. Best pastrami sandwich i have ever had and the bacon mac and cheese was fantastic as well.

Great place that is ALWAYS crowded, can't wait til the next time im in tampa to visit DATZ!

Visited on 7/12/11 before we stopped through Cigar City.

The place is easy to find, though parking was on a side street a short walk away if I remember correctly.

A very large space with tons of seating downstairs, as well as a working deli counter on the side and bar in back, bottles for sale in front. Near the back bar were shelves of sixers as well. We were seated upstairs where shelves of liquor line the walls, presumably for sale. News paraphernalia lines the rest of the walls.

Nice wooden furnishings and yet modern ambiance. Very large and tempting menu, though many items were a little on the pricey side. There was a second bar upstairs as well.

Tap list was a respectable size - approx. 20 taps plus a cask beer. They have a special brew called "Soggy Loaf" (Pumpernickel rye porter) which is brewed solely for Datz by Cigar City. Get it, it is a phenomenal brew. The other taps are mostly local stuff to FL or the south.

Huge portions on the food, and excellent quality. We ordered a cheese plate which wound up being utterly massive. They had some pretty fun cheeses to choose from as well, a number of which were beer themed/infused.

Overall Datz is clean, warm, spacious, and suited for many tastes - be it food for there or to go, beer and liquor to consume there or to go. I will definitely stop back if i am ever again in the Tampa area.

The official deli of the Cigar City Brewing Co. (Not really, but close enough.)

My wife and I went here after reading many reviews (on BA and otherwise), and after visiting Cigar City. The employees at CCB promote this place rather heavily.

Atmosphere: We arrived about noon or so, and the crowds were already starting to congregate. This place has everything!: A restaurant, bar, bakery, convenient store... you name it! Impeccably clean, with some modern decor, and with some brick work that still gave the place sort of a rustic feel.

Quality: The quality of the beer and food was great, with a particular shout out about "Soggy Loaf," which is a porter that Cigar City brewed for and is exclusive to Datz.

Service: No problems here. The waitress was prompt with our order and always kept our water and beer glasses full.

Selection: About 30-40 taps, with an even more extensive bottle selection. In terms of food selection, this place boasts a HUGE selection of sandwiches, but it not just a mere deli. It's a full scale restaurant with gourmet side dishes and all.

Food: My pastrami sandwich was awesome as well as my wife's turkey. Generous portions served with gourmet chips.

Value: A lot has been made of the high prices here. I honestly don't think that $10-12 bucks for a gourmet sandwich is that bad of a deal. In terms of beer, the prices were around $5-7, depending on the brew. Again, pretty standard.

I would eat/drink here again in a heartbeat! As a matter of fact, my wife and I mentioned to each other periodically the next day what a great experience we had at Datz.

Learned about this place from the bartender (Dave), whom I met at Cigar City. Nothing quite like learning about a hidden gem from a fellow beer geek.
When you walk in, you can't miss all of the bottles that are ready to go via take-out. Ton of them - and they're all high quality stuff, too. The next thing you notice is that there are three bars inside! That's always promising. Seating is available on the bottom floor, at one of the bars, or upstairs. It's roomy, but still quaint.
Food consists of deli-faire...but you have a ton of options. Dozens of traditional and non-traditional sandwiches as well as hamburgers, grilled entrees, and even some pasta. Most things are served with homemade potato chips dusted with sugar and covered in bleu cheese sauce. Yummy! Sandwiches and burgers are both excellent options.
The beer menu is terrific. There are 6-10 tap options including Bell's, Left Hand, Brooklyn, the Bruery, Abita, Cigar City, and more.
Want something unique? The bottled beer menu is also terrific and has an addition 40 or so options broken down by style with tasting notes.

This is a gem of a place and one I'll definitely revisit on my next trip to Tampa. Cheers to Dave for recommending his place to us!

An excellent addition to South Tampa. This is the only place in the entire area to have a truly large selection of craft beer. It is a deli/gourmet food mart. However, upstairs is their Loft Bar. Few beers on tap; right now: 90 Minute, Shipyard Barleywine, Chimay, FD Tire BIte?, Bells Expedition!!! In addition to the drafts they have at least 80 bottles downstairs available for retail purchase, but you can order those at the bar, and still pay retail price!! Stone Ruintation 22 oz was $6.95, poured in a nice glass, by a great bartender. Awesome values on all bottles.

If you're with a wine drinker, they will be in heaven like 200 wines, a ton by the glass.

The food is top notch. Whats better than a great beer and a great sandwich? Huge menu, all top quality products, a lot stuff made in house. Little pricier than most delis but the quality is well worth the extra couple bucks.

The staff is great. There has been a lot of them on hand; they have been super busy since opening; but all are happy to lead you through all the menus. Really friendly bar staff. Just a great restaurant/bar in an area saturated with mediocre beer.

Datz is an amazing place to go have a beer and a sandwich. It has taken off in South Tampa and has already attracted a loyal following. As with any place there will be pros and cons.

- Great beer selections at an even more amazing price. Name another place where you can go sit at a bar and have a $1.99 Dogfish 60 Min IPA!In fact, there are a lot of nice brews for $1.99 or $2.99. In a town of $4 Corona's, this is insane.

- Sandwiches are top notch. Datz is taking "deli" to heart and their meats and cheeses are the best around.

- Friendly owners. I had the pleasure to meet one of the owners (Suzanne) on my first trip in and she was extremely nice and helpful. She identified several of their own shortcomings (see Cons below) and said they are working on them.

I have been reading the local Tampa papers and their write-ups on Datz and noticed that several seem to be focusing on the negatives. Those negatives are:

- Bad parking situation. Agreed. Datz does not have a wealth of close parking and I don't see how they will ever fix it.

- Bad service. True, service is hit or miss, but it's getting better all the time. Suzanne even told me she was sorry that the service was not where it needed to be, but that they were working on it. She also said that most of the problem was that they had a much better opening response than they expected and just wasn't prepared to handle it. Seems logical and I appreciated the fact that she owned up to it.

- Overpriced food. The sandwiches are $9.95 to $12.95, but I'm not too sure thats a con. Yes, thats more than the traditional $7.95, but the extra couple of dollars is more than made up for in quality of sanwich and the savings from the accompanying beer.

I highly recommend Datz as a place to go after work and have a really great beer at a price that is similar to what you'll pay at a retail store. After talking with their owners and their "beer guy", they will also be rotating the stock and getting new and high demand beers too. And they'll take suggestions. Tell 'em what you'd like to see....

Was not sure what to expect when i went in the door, this was not your run of the mill place. The area was small and chopped up but the there was an Upscale atmosphere. 20 or so unique beers on tap. and a large beer and wine list. You can find the bottled beer and wine menu on line. Those who accompanied me were disappointed to find that there was no bud light lime or corona on tap or bottle! The bar tender let them try a few on tap till they found something they liked. The menu was another surprise New york city style sandwiches and gourmet desserts including home made gelato! The guacamole was homemade and so were the potato chips - which were sprinkled with salt and cinnamon. All in all unique and impressive!
