A - pours golden yellow with a white frothy head that settles to white thin film over it

S - grainy malts and nothing else; typical adjunct lager nose

T - starts off watery and moves on to a bit of a yeasty grainy malt flavor. An extremely subtle
amount of spicy grassy hops is detectable on the finish.

M - full, smooth, carbonated - nothing out of the norm here

D - overall, this wasn't anything mind-blowing or crazy different. It was a typical example of this style and delivered how I thought it would.

A- Pours a very clear dry grassy color, which is to say, is almost colorless. It appears to be quite heavily carbonated, with big bristly bubbles aggressively rising to the top of my glass. The head is actually impressive at first, being probably around 2 full fingers thick, and also being quite cloud like in puffiness....unfortunately it doesn't last long, quickly disappearing into a thick-ish layer, which remains super white. The lacing is actually not bad at first for this type of brew, with patchy foam clinging to the side of my glass.

S- Nothing much going on here....just some mild grainy/grassy aromas happening. Overall, this is a bland smelling "pilsner", more like basic American lager....lots of corn....boiled of course. Nothing in terms of hop aroma either....oh well.

T- Adjuncts abound here...corn husk, grass, raw grain, and really no sign of hop bitterness...perhaps some dryness on the finish but nothing of note here. I will say that it is a refreshing beer to drink on the hot sandy beaches of Roatan!

M- Thin bodied, and full of crisp sparkling carbonation....the way an AAL should be! Again, this is somewhat dry on the finish so it isn't all bad....just nothing special.

O- This is an easy drinking, mindless type of beer that I have no problems with enjoying on a hot summer day. The downside to this one, like BevCo's other productions, are all bland and too similar. Meh, this is fine for what it is...

The Imperial Pilsner pours a golden straw in color from a red 12 oz. can, and from a black 12 oz. can! Not sure if these are different in any way and said differences are subtle if at all. Pour yields a thin head of foam which shrinks to a thin cap quickly and yet throws more than expected lacing.

Cleans pils malt and grain on the nose with a notable lager yeast presence. Adjuncts are present but light and are accompanied by a hint of grassy Noble hops.

Sweetness is more evident on the tongue. Thick and chewy in feel with a notable thinned corn syrup flavor that runs through the gamut of Hondurena beers. Nicely carbonated and can regenerate a surface film easily, yet remains viscous to a fault on the finish. Rich and heavy yet simple in complexity, reminding me a Euro. Strong Lagers without the alcohol punch.

Recently spent a week in Roatan and drank a lot of the 4 Honduran beers on the island in the hot sun. They were quite refreshing given the weather and suited their purpose perfectly, ie: quenching thirst. I'll review all 4 at once, from what I can remember, so anyone looking to try these when they visit can have an idea of what's in store.

All were drank straight from the bottle.

Barena - This was the worst of the bunch in my opinion. Heavy aroma and flavor of DMS. It's pretty much overpowering and you can't taste anything else. Comes in a clear glass bottle so, although mine wasn't, could be easily light struck. Very clear diluted yellow in color with a bright white head that didn't last at all with each sip. Tried it once and never had it again.

Port Royal - This was possibly the cleanest of all the beers. But that also meant that it had very little flavor to speak of. Very crisp, easy to drink (fast) and thirst quenching...but aside from a little DMS in the after taste had very little going on. Came in a green glass bottle and was very clear.

Imperial - This one came in a brown bottle so that was a nice change. Not so loaded with DMS to turn me away in flavor in aroma. Had a little more body than the first 2 and little more going on in flavor...there may have been a little malt used in there after all.

Salva Vida - This quickly became my go-to beer on the island. It came in a brown bottle and had good head retention everytime the bottle was tipped to sip. Never took it out of the bottle except to drink but it looked very clear in the bottle with a white big carbonation head. Slight DMS in the taste and aroma. It had some mroe going on though...You could actually tell they used hops in the beer (although still not very prevelent) and there was a little malt in there too.

All in all they are 4 similar beers brewed by the same brewery. Not the best beer to drink but they serve the purpose when it's 85 and sunny and you've been at the beach all day and need a thirst quencher while sitting on the porch in the evening. I'd recommend trying them all for yourself but Salva is the winner in my book.

On a side note. I learned that some rich guy went over to Roatan and actually built a brewery. He planned to brew beer for the island, and I believe tried to, but was quickly run out of the business by the big wigs. I guess they went to all the businesses on the island and paid them NOT to sell his beer and continue to sell these 4 as the only local beers on the island. He tried to sell the brewery but was unsuccessful and he now makes soda with the equipment.

One of the popular beers being served in Honduras during my travels there (the other beer being Salva Vida, a better product if you must choose between the two). Review taken from my limited notes a few years ago.

Pours a pale yellow color, minimal head.

Smell is like a typical lager, bit of a natural skunk aroma.

Taste is thin, some malt and bitterness, nothing noteworthy.

My neighbor brought this back from Honduras. The front says CerveceriaTegucigalpa, but the side of the can reads hecho en Honduras por Cerveceria Hondurena, S.A. de C.V. Not sure who's really doing the brewing here, but I couldn't find a listing for CerveceriaTegucigalpa in a list of Honduran businesses so I'm going with Cerveceria Hondurena as the brewer.

Can reads Cerveza Pilsner, but I'm calling this a pale lager.

Straw yellow with a white head.
Lemon Pledge aroma with some sweet, pale malt thrown in.

Lemony chemical taste dominates. Yeah, there's some sweet, pale malt and hops in there, but off-flavors abound.

Light body and mouthfeel on the thin side.
Drinkability: Does Lemon Pledge sound appealing to you?

Overall, this beer is full of off-flavors and aromas and leaves much to be desired. I doubt this is distributed to the U.S., but if it is; pass it by.
