Tasting at Fat Heads Tap House on 10/15/2014, CLE Beer Week release of Hop Stalker.

Clear saffron-yellow elixir presented in nonic pint glass. Two-finger, thick, white head, heavy laced glass at the end of the draught.

Really nice battle of the hops going on here: dank, resinous pine in a battle with the citrus, mango and grapefruit. The sweet, sweet citrus wins by a nose.

Crisp citrus flavors of mango, pineapple and grapefruit cut by what seems like cane sugar caramel, then smooth hop pine, resin and subtle spice come up to provide balance. The mouth waters. The citra and simcoe hops really create a complex amalgam of flavors.

Medium body, nicely slick, alcohol hidden.

Another fantastic hop-driven brew from Matt Cole and FHs.

16oz can poured into a 16oz har glass...be burley

pours a hazy sunshine orange with a proper head, somewhere between bubbly and creamy

smells like what i imagine a grapefruit harvesters hands would smell like after a long day of picking fruit and rolling joints

tastes squarely of grapefruit peel, with fleeting notes of tropical fruit and whiffs of dank cannabis and yeast

pleasantly creamy mouthfeel (initially) that left my toungue stuck to the roof of my mouth with resiny oily goodness

this is like drinking a proto-headhunter that climbed out of some primordial trub that the brewers forgot about and it snuck into the fermentation room and absorbed all of the other evolving beers life force and morphed into some sort of humuloic demon bent on consuming every hop flower in existence...and its fantastic

*now, if they would just cut it out with the horrible label art we could be best friends

note: it has now been 2 hours since my last gulp, during which i have had a glass of water and a banana with peanut butter, and all i can taste is hop resin...its like stuck in my teeth or something

Canned 10/13/14

Fat Heads can do no wrong with the hoppy stuff. They have another winner here. There are similar characteristics (smell, initial taste) between this and Head Hunter. Head Hunter is more bitter on the finish, while Hop Stalker leaves that fresh hop taste in your mouth for awhile. Delicious.

Served from the can into a pint glass. Canned on 10/13/14, very fresh.

A- Poured a semi-clear orange color with some visible carbonation, big fluffy off-white head left dense, glass-coating lace.

S- Huge pungent and dank hoppiness, lots of grapefruit, pine, orange citrus, and tropical hop notes.

T- Lots of sweet citrus hop notes, big sweet candy caramel malt presence, lots of leafy and grassy hops. Finishes with moderate to high bitterness.

M- Very smooth, creamy, soft carbonation, dry, and medium bodied.

O- The taste didn't totally match the aroma. The aroma had a much more bold hop character, but this is a really nice well-balanced fresh hop IPA. The malt bill was very rich, flavorful, and played off the hop bill very nicely. It is hard to beat a fresh IPA in 16 oz. can.
