This one is a heavy and dark red-brown, too thick for any clarity at all and, thus, completely opaque. The head, just a little darker than tan, is also very thick and creamy. It rises to two fingers and fades very slowly, while lace sticks in tattered sheets and clumps everywhere.
This is unlike even most American versions of any Barleywine I've had, and it's as much like a DIPA. Hops are at the forefront and take over as the dominant force, though there's plenty of malt support. Every sniff and every sip is a hit of pine. Underneath is citrus and a more molasses-like undertone. There's lots of heavy earth as well, and some fruits coming in toward the middle. In the flavor, it seems to be on a strong base of heavier barley-like malts with lots of herb/leaf supporting and adding to the fresh sort of bitterness. Oily hop resins coat the palate from beginning to finish and, primarily in the flavor, there's a whole lot of pith and orange peel contributing to the almost-briny note some pithier beers tend to display. I may want a Barleywine to be more like, say, a Barleywine, but there's no denying it's an excellent beer nonetheless.
This beer flows smoothly, exceptionally smoothly, accompanied by a light bite of crispness sustained by a soft carbonation in a nearly full body.

On-tap at Fat Head's in N. Olmsted, Ohio

This is a collaboration with Jackie O's. Pours a light copper; off-white head that leaves great lacing and retention. Aromas are amazing. Straight up dank! It's loaded with grapefruit, mango, and pineapple. Tons of citrus. Very tropical as well. Caramel malts are there, but they take a backseat. The hops shine in the aromas and flavors. Tastes amazing as well. More citrus. Tons of grapefruit along with some orange zest and lemon zest. Subtle hints of pine. More mango and pineapple. There's a leafy earthiness going on. Some caramel in the mix. It has a subtle malt background, but once again the hops dominate in a great way. Mouthfeel is wonderful. It's full-bodied and extremely creamy; fluffy active carbonation. Alcohol is well hidden. This is truly dangerously drinkable.

Bravo. This is one of the best barleywines I've ever had. It's up there with some of the best beers I've had all year. It's extremely hop forward and makes you forget that you're even drinking a barleywine. It borderlines being a DIPA. Wonderful use of mosaic hops. This has that Fat Head's signature hop profile that people love. I'm simply blown away. Highly recommended if given the opportunity.

Pours a cider brown color with a one finger slightly off white head. The head leaves lace all over the glass. The aroma is of wet citra hops and other tropical smells pineapple mainly. There is also a sweetvsmell . the taste is of wet hops...its earthy and piney with a hint of citrus. The mouth feel is moderately carbonated and a little creamy. Overall a very good american barely wine. Well blended and not over powered by hops.
