12 oz shorty brown bottle. Label consists of literally of a bright blue sky with clouds forming and the typical but great Fat Head sitting directly in the middle of the label. His style this time is of a tribal head hunter. Face paint, piercings, shades and all. Just more fun artwork from Fat Heads. Poured into a nonic pint glass.
A - fairly clear amber gold with bright golden highlights in the light. I say clear, but look close and see the tiny specs of haze particles moving about. Minimal but there. Bright white head forms nice on the pour settling to a bubbly yet clumpy ring of lacing leaving thin but plentiful stick.
S - big tropical fruit in the nose. Absolutely gushes the nose with sweet pineapple and mango goodies flowing into a kick of grapefruit, orange and pine resin. Sweet malt and slightly bready undertones lay off a complex yet very balanced nose.
T - this displays big time bitterness in the flavor profile. Suddenly those lush sweet tropical notes found in the nose turn to more grapefruit and pine resin. Like a grenade packed full of explosive bitterness going off in your mouth. Some slight pineapple toward the finish with the malt backbone turned nearly completely down. Spme floral notes and boozy alcohol spice as this warms. This is a hop heads flavor profile where the nose is more a balancing act. If you like sturdy, resinous pine and grapefruit bitterness in the mouth this is for you.
M - nice medium to full bodied with a good mouthfeel. Not quite as thick as the aroma would suggest maybe, but still near perfect for what they were aiming for with big bitter flavors and a more west coast feel. Coats very well and still comes off to me as refreshing on this humid summer night.
O - Head Hunter is a world class brew no doubt. It has me blown away with its aroma and yet even after turning into a completely different take through the flavor profile it still produces some fine results all the way around. Fat Heads brew some very good stuff and Head Hunter is up there with the best of them. A great year round offering but must be enjoyed fresh. It took me awhile to find it fresh, but drinking a few of these less than 2 weeks old really made the wait worthwhile. A must try! And one ill enjoy again.
