Huge thanks to my friend Jay for this Ohio find! 64 oz growler into a wine glass.

Appearance: Pours a slightly hazy amber color. The head is two fingers high and white in shade. While retention isn't fantastic, it does have a sticky texture which leaves behind a ton of lacing on the glass. (3.5)

Smell: There's nothing like a fresh IPA, especially when they have such a vibrant hop melange. There's a little bit of everything here: tropical fruits, orange, grapefruit, pine, and herbs. Hints of the biscuity malt tie everything together quite well. Powerfully pungent; smells like a total winner. (4.25)

Taste: On the flavor profile, I'm picking up more grapefruit than anything else. Still, not a bad thing by any means. The finishing bitterness is quite healthy - actually, it's more than that. It's totally biting and intense. But in a good way! Technically, there aren't any stand-out notes: it's just another big, bitter grapefruit-and-pine IPA. Where it succeeds (with flying colors) is how well defined the hop flavors are, and how well concealed the malt is. IPAs are all about showing off the hops, and this does a superb job of that. (4.25)

Mouthfeel: Very light on the palate, with the dryness keeping the residual sugar at bay. Yet, the hops giving a long, resinous back end. It's so bitter, in fact, it becomes slightly hard to drink at times. Carbonation is good. (4)

Overall: As a personal note, I'm starting to move away from the grapefruit-forward IPAs. But to dismiss this simply due to my own tastes would be ridiculous. It's a fantastically made punch to the face. Hop sissies need not apply; those who enjoy a vicious grapefruit attack (and a scorched earth palate) will absolutely fall in love with this. (4.25)

4.19/5: Help! My tongue has been stabbed by hops!
