This brew was served from the bottle at The Brick Oven Bistro in Sandusky, Ohio. We poured into a set of half-sized house snifters, and the beer showed a clean sunset orange hue, with a quick finger tall head of white foam. This retained only okay, leaving behind an absence of lacing. No real haze or sediment was noted, and carbonation appeared to be moderate. The aroma gave orange rind bitters, black olives, manila envelope dustiness, sticky caramel and pale maltiness, Band-Aid phenols, mandarin orange juiciness, resiny and grapefruity hoppiness, coiny metallics, lavender and rose petals, dried thyme, harsh tannic tea leafiness, and big musky perfumes, especially as it warmed. The taste gave bittered, chlorine chemical bite, citric and grassy hop bitterness, pale and amber adjuncty grain, fusel booziness, bitter herbal rumbles lactic creaminess, plastic phenols, light clove and black pepper spiciness, green sap resins, toasty pales, acidic tomato vegetals, gingerbread and pumpernickel starchiness, and tight aluminum metallics. The body was medium, and the carbonation was light. This translated into very light creaminess and mustache to the slurp, smack, froth, and pop, with the lips left otherwise evenly wet and tingling. Puck trumped astringency along the palate and cheeks. The abv was appropriate, and the beer drank back lightly and nicely.

Overall, this was a beer enjoyed after a day of riding ten of the world’s best roller coasters at Cedar Point. We were most certainly thrashed from it, and ready for some swill and delicious grub. We found this little establishment on the interweb and loved it. The food was great and so was the beer, but we’ll leave a full review for it in the proper place. This beer was recommended to us by the knowledgeable bartender, although it has been on our “Ohio list” for a little while now. What we found was a nice local offering, but really were hard pressed to find much more. The flavoring was there, showcasing a deeper malt profile, but we were a bit let down in the department of feel. It was just a little light for the depth they’re going for. This, unfortunately, slows down the drinker, tricking them into thinking the flavors are lighter than they actually are. This is not the case in the nose, as we felt this to be its strongest aspect. This is a great Ohio beer, and one we would certainly seek out again, but we can’t help but feel that we prefer something more substantial to quench this thirst.

Clear amber brew, light and golden, topped by a decent snow white head with good retention and nice lacing.

Nice balanced aroma featuring pine and citrus hops, pale and caramel malts, bread, biscuit, and sugar. Nice wildflower floral notes as well.

Brew is less fruity up front, with a classic pine-and-grapefruit IPA profile. As pale malts carry powdery biscuit across your palate, tropical fruit and grapefruit pulp hits back strong, carrying you to a semi-dry, acidic finish.

Very lively, with a bit of sting. Relatively light feel overall, with drinkability slowed only by the sting.

This brew has a classic IPA profile, with just enough fruitiness to keep it interesting, but an old-school, knock-in-the-teeth bitterness that should make hop heads smile in reminiscence.
