12oz bottle, no clear bottling date, at bd Mongolian BBQ in Coventry (Cleveland OH). Poured into an unlabeled pint glass. This is the third time I've had this beer, but the first time I'm feeling like reviewing this.

Review #261.

Pours a nice copper-orange body with a 2cm white head, decent retention, nothing special. Looks like a typical IPA to me, rings of lacing stick around on the glass as I drink this beer down.

Smells quite hoppy- citrus and pine primarily. Some orange and lemon up front with pine at the end, mixed in with a fairly decent but not substantial bready malt backbone.

Flavour is actually fairly mild- mostly citrus and biscuits, finishing off with hints of pine. Fairly hoppy, but overall quite balanced and not skewed in any one department.

Smooth, drinkable, medium bodied with good carbonation. Not particularly resinous but leaves a fairly nice dry feel on the palate. No hint of alcohol.

Fairly good regional IPA, it gets a lot of love on here and I kind of get it.. but its certainly not among the best I've had. It's not mindblowingly good, while its a very well constructed, balanced IPA with good flavours. But well, maybe I just need to get into that proper Cleveland mindset.

I don't normally expect much from little known breweries, but after having their autumn seasonal, I had to give this a try.

Appearance: Not an exceptional color, but the head pours 2+ inches and slowly recedes, leaving impressive lacing.

Smell: Very fresh, and all about the hops. Citrus, particularly grapefruit standing out. No alcohol in the smell.

Taste: Wow. This beer is powerful. The hops provide citrus flavors, namely pineapple and grapefruit. It is balanced? For an IPA, I guess, if hops being balanced by more hops makes sense (which with the hop trend currently going on, yes). This tastes great.

Mouthfeel; Really nice drinkability here with the thickness and carbonation just right. It finishes bitter and dry, but this is a hoppy beer.

Overall: I'm impressed. The flavors are great, the mouthfeel is great, the appearance is great, and the smell is great. I'd put this up there with 90 minute as one of the best IPAs available, and I'm especially impressed given that this is a small brewery. Bravo.
