Bottling date of 01/29/14

Poured from 12oz bottle into a tulip glass

A- Pours a medium burnt orange/yellow with a high slightly off white head. Looks to be medium bodied. Nice degree of clarity, some hop resin chunks floating around.

S- Sticky, lightly dank pine, pineapple, some citrus, light tropical notes and bitter burn in the nostrils. Medium-light malt on the back.

T- Pine, a pretty big smooth, long bitterness, all 87 IBUs are accounted for, Grapefruit, nice level of sweet tropical notes of pineapple and papaya. A lighter malt character than in the nose. Leaves a pretty high degree of bitterness on the tongue.

M- Surprisingly light mouthfeel the makes this a pretty easy drinking high hopped beverage.

O- This is one of my favorite IPAs. It has much of the things I look for in a great IPA. It has a big hop presence and a nice medium sweetness and is very easy to drink. I try to go to Indiana or Ohio and grab some whenever I can. Wish it came in 6 packs though, I mean if Bell's can do 2Hearted in 6ers and this seems to be just as equally hopped, just with 3 hops instead of 1, then surely this can be put in 6ers.

Poured from a bottle into a tulip glass at around 45°F

Appearance: Burnt orange color with a one finger off white head that sticks around; Sticky with great lacing.

Smell: Tropical and citrus fruits (grapefruit, pineapple, mango, orange, lemon), pine, and sweet malt. They blend together perfectly; The most aromatic AIPA I've encountered.

Taste: Everything you want in an AIPA is there. Enormous amount of tropical and citrus hops (although more on the citrus side), bittering hops, pine, and sweet malt for a great balance. Bright fruits carry on in the aftertaste. Burps taste great too! I pick up more tropical notes in the nose, but the taste is still world class.

Mouthfeel: Light medium body; resinous with substantial bitterness and a dry finish. Well carbonated; Crisp

Overall: It's hard to pull off an IPA of this caliber, and Fat Head's has done it! An AIPA done to near perfection and one of my favorites in the style. I feel lucky to have a regular (fresh) supply of this. If you're a hop head, this would be a great go to locally, and certainly worth a trade. Highly recommended!

*EDIT (7/6/14): After having a few Enjoy Bys for the first time recently and now drinking this again, I had to knock off points for the smell (from 5 to 4.75). It is still fantastic however, probably being the most citrus/grapefruit heavy IPA I've had, and more balanced between hops and malt. But the tropical notes in Enjoy By cannot be surpassed IMO. Will have to try Hop JuJu for a more fair comparison

Fatheads Headhunter

Uncivilized and Aggressive

Poured into tulip glass

A: Pours a deep and dark burnt yellow with floating sediments. An awesome, glowing ipa !

S: Wow ! Smell is dank with huge hop scents of pine, grapefruit, citrus and pineapple.

T: Huge hop bitterness and flavor. Above mentioned fruits and a touch of caramel.

M: Medium-sized feel with tangy carbonation. Resiny and sticky. Leaves a sticky finish on the lips.

O: A punch you in the mouth brew for those who truly love their hops !

Poured from the bottle into a Spiegelau Dogfish Head IPA glass. Bottled Feb 17th 2014.

A real nice deep bronze and orange body, nearly crystal clear with lots of good thin rising carbonation. Head only makes about two fingers tall though, with a tiny soapy even bubbled appearance. Tan head in color, and settles slowly with even layers of retention and clumpy qualities.

Real nice aroma. Very noticeable dank earth, faint citrus orange a bit, and some pickle like salty brine also. Quite woody and aromatic and campfire like smoke hop aromas to match. This is a neat bouquet on this brew.

A real nice straightforward palate. A solid but simple mouthfeel that isn't too wet, but coats with a thin oil sheen. Hop forward in the palate, but also quite fleeting on the fruit and earth suggested aromas before. Good front of mild pine but it's interesting how the flavor of this beer is all in the front, and has virtually no aftertaste. Light bodied it seems and real impressive on masking the abv, almost tastes like a "sessionable IPA".

Overall it's really well made, but it is not quite making it up there with the big boys just yet. However, it is a great beer and one easily worth having again.
