Pours a clear golden color with a white head, smells of malt first with some citrus hops, taste follows the nose more malty than hoppy, did not care for that, mouth feel was sweet with a slight, hop bitterness in the finish, preferred Hop JuJu to this one.

The Fat Head's line up is new to PA so before dinner out this evening I took advantage of an excellent tap list to see if I'd want to buy some of the bottled beer when I find it. The clear dark amber colored beer was served in a nonic glass with 1/4" white head on the top. While sipping down the beer some lacing and partial patches of foam cling to the sides of the glass. Sipping creates scattered small bits of lacing. Even to the end there's at least an island of foam on the liquid.
The aromas include grapefruit and other as well as both pine an pineapple all backed up with a bit of earthy character.
The flavors are much as anticipated from the nose in that there's some citrus, grapefruit pith, pine and pineapple. The hops are showcased throughout but the malt backbone keeps it in check so that the bitterness never overwhelms.
The mouthfeel is medium bodied and lightly crisp with persistent but light carbonation. The finish begins as the fruit flavors slowly fade, followed by the pine and citrus, but it all winds up with a dry bitterness that invites another sip.

Overall this is a well made one I'll probably be having again. However, it doesn't quite make my list for regular rotation since I tend to prefer a bit more malt backbone so that the beer is more balanced between malt and hops. I guess I'm just not a big fan of the West Coast bitter IPA.

Golden in color and very clear, thick white head on top that goes away after a minute. Smell is very hoppy and citrusy. Very hoppy and piney in taste.

Fat Head's Head Hunter India Pale Ale"
on tap at Flanigan's Boathouse, Conshohocken, PA on 26 February 2016

Once in a while a beer comes along with the ability to turn my jaded head, and this is one of them. Of course, it's probably been around forever and I've just found it now!

It seems so big, so full of malt and just dripping in juicy tropical-citrus! It's grainy, malty-sweet and almost honeyish with a golden caramel side. That's then livened by notes of tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, and mango as well as some pine and grass and pungent herbs - or is it the other way around, with the malt bouncing the fruit off of it? Either way it seems so full and satiating, and yet it's really not that big, it's simply medium bodied with a standard carbonation - it's just rich. A solid bitterness balances it and it finishes dry with a quick passing dollop of golden-orange malt and lingering citrus. Fairly complex and interesting, really nicely balanced all around, and highly drinkable. Worth seeking out!

I could drink this everyday. Such a great hop flavor that balances the bitter. Like a toned down Hop JuJu. Definitely a citrus component, but not overwhelmingly so. The dense hop flavor really steals the show.

Look is above par; smell is like refined bitterness, coarse, grassy, and filled with grapefruit. The taste follows with exquisite balance. It's dank; it's bready; it's fruity; it's dry; it's malty; it's all of those things. This beer is world-class. So damn larrrge. If you want an IPA that hits on all your notes, yet traditional, this is the one.

This is one of the better IPAs I have ever had. Got it in a trade and I am loving it. The fruity, citrusy hops are perfectly balanced with the malts and earthy tones. This a great beer.

This is one of the best IPAs I’ve ever had.

(L) It has a clear amber hue with a white two inch thick head.

(A) The aroma is grape fruit and pine.

(T) There’s some sweet malt back bone, and lots of pine, grapefruit, pineapple, dankness, all very well put together.

(F) Its smooth and crisp and juicy, and easy to drink too quickly. It is a top notch IPA in my opinion.

Bottled in January, enjoyed ~10 weeks later. Dark golden orange pour with a, uh, fat head. Nose of muted citrus, tea and tobacco. Taste of orange rind, blood orange, tea and apricot. Hard to justify the rating, so much so that I'm doubting the bottle is a representative sample. So be it - not getting my hands on a couple more of these anytime soon. Solid beer but nothing heavy about the hops.

Freshly tapped 1/6 keg at my basement bar poured into a Belgian tulip glass. Lacing is sticky and impressive. Orange, copper in color with a hint of haziness. Swirling the glass brings out all the aromas. Pine, sweet grapefruit with hints of pineapple and mango. They should make an air freshener out of this, seriously...The hoppy bitter goodness gives you a quick smack in the face, followed by the citrus grapefruit, sweet pineapple and malt, finishing with the same bitterness that reminds you that you're drinking a fine IPA. This is my first beer from Fat Head's Brewery and won't be the last. The 1/6 keg was a bit pricey at $105.99 plus tax, which is about what I paid for my last keg of Ballast Point Sculpin Grapefruit. I think the Sculpin is just a tad better though IMO. Either way, Head Hunter is definitely one to seek out and drink again and again.

Pours a yellowish copper with a thin layer of head. The nose is citrusy, fruity and something sweet. The flavor is malt forward but the body is not quite what I would describe as hearty for the style. The hop profile on the finish is less potent than I might expect.

12 oz bottle. Pours bright orange, light haze, finger white head, fades to a ring with soapy lace. Aroma is fruity, orange peel. Very balanced IPA, dank weedy hops with grapefruit and orange peel turning earthy in the swallow. Just enough sweet malt balance. Medium soft slick mouth, slightly oily. Have had this one many times on trips to Florida, and it never disappoints.

Had on tap at Dunedin HOB.
A: Extremely pale. Likely 2-row pale, c-20 malts.
S: Dank. Friends say it smells like pot. Hops stick out and punch your nose in a way you enjoy.
T: Even more bitterness and hops. But balanced enough to drink. Fruity, danky.
M: Feels good but the bitterness encircles your tongue. Best had with something to clear the palette afterwards.
O: The first time I had this beer, I couldn't stop drinking it. I couldn't stop telling people about it and to date, this is on my top 5 beer list. Anytime this goes on tap at HOB, I grab atleast two just because.

Definitely try it. And maybe one day I'd like to visit the fat heads restaurant.

BOD 8/24/15. Clear copper pour. Outstanding head volume, world class lacing and retention.

Outstanding nose of classic pine and grapefruit rind over biscuit. As it warms subtle orange and dank notes are added.

Almost medium body that is quite smooth in texture and has creamy and oily aspects. World class carbonation with a burst of effervescence in the middle and a finely bubbled rollicking prickly finish.

The flavor profile is world class. Intense hop flavor in the west coast style that is balanced by a bready biscuit with a moderate bitterness sums this one up. It begins with an assault of pine and grapefruit rind hop flavor that slowly transitions to orange and mango as the biscuit sweetness arrives coupled with a touch of caramel. The middle delivers a moderate bitterness that adds a dank quality as it begins to fade. Alcohol is very well covered with just a hint of astringency emerging in the dry finish. A subtle bitterness lingers, but the main component is wonderful rind and dank flavor over a sweet background.

LOOKS: Clear golden-amber, with lots of small bubbles streaming up the glass. 2 fingers+ of off white foamy head that lingers and leaves thick lacing down the glass.
AROMA: Big astringent hops. Some people get rubber, some get pineapple, I get ammonia. Grapefruit rind, Some bready malt sweetness.
TASTE: Big bitterness right away, Some malt sweetness in the middle and the finish is all bitter. Mostly a very bitter big grapefruit pith taste, for me.
FEEL: Smooth, carbonation feels adequate but light. Body is medium and dry on the palate the whole way through the drink.
OVERALL: Does not have what I like in an IPA, which is a nice balance of sweet and bitter. This one also has flavors and smell from the hops that remind me of ammonia. I tend to pick this up from Simcoe hops. Seems like a well made beer, just not for me.

A - A beautiful IPA, clear golden orange body, big white head, fades to a ring and film across the top with copious lacing all the way down.

S - Pine is front. Hints of pith and citrus peel, oranges and passionfruit. A bit of bubble gum sweetness.

T - Strong open of grapefruit and pith, pine and peppermint, with a bit of biscuity malt in the middle, coming to a strong punch of bitterness in the close. Hints of aspirin stay in check when cooler, but blossom forth more powerfully as it warms, which is the primary knock on taste - so drink it cool.

M - Chewy and drying, with residual coating of the tongue in the close. The drying invites you to keep drinking, but this is one that you do not want to stack.

O - A huge beer that delivers a big hop taste without completely blowing out your palate. It is a close thing, with this beer walking right up to the edge of wreckage without stepping over.

Damn good beer. I had never heard of it so this was a pleasant surprise. Got a bottle at Jack Flats in Key West because the Two Hearted on draft was out. Pours clear and golden. Nice sized head with lacing all up and down. Great flavor and hop bitterness. Pretty clean in the finish. Great brew. Had the Two Hearted after this one, and the Head Hunter was way better.

L: Clear Amberish tint.
S: Slightly fruty, strong smell of pine. Smells hoppy!
T: Dank but crisp. Has an earthy note to it. Smell really transfers to the taste
F: Medium bodied. Had a solid finger of head with a lighter pour into a Spiegelau glass
O: Really solid drinkable IPA. I'm curious what the IPU is, but it has to be around 90.

L: Classic bronze. Extremely clear. Negligible head poured from a bottle dated 12/29/15 into a wine glass.

S: nice tropical fruits and some malt.

T: beautiful! Grapefruit abounds, but also juicy Pineapple and mango, rounded out by a clean malt finish.

F: nice amount of carbonation jazzes it up, and has a creamy mouthfeel.

O: an extremely refreshing IPA. Alcohol presence is basically nil. Had to stop myself from quaffing this one.

Look: Medium orange-amber hue with a light, white foam head. Dissipates relatively quick but leaves a web of lacing.

Aroma: Big, clean tropical hops. Dank piney hops with light grapefruit citrus notes too.

Taste: Dank, earthy, piney hops and a somewhat sweet citrus bitterness.

Feel: Sticky, juicy, and refreshing. This is a very crisp, light IPA. Great balance between the sweet malt and bitter hops.

I really enjoyed this one, but was not blown away after some of the TH stuff I drank before it. This one is your prototypical IPA. Lots of hoppiness on the nose and good balance, but bot as juicy and dank as I prefer.

Very nice mix of pine and citrus going on. Grapefruit and orange both present. Fairly bitter, but offset a bit by a nice caramel malt base. The nose gives off pine resin and citrus. Tasty.

How I love IPA's...

Nice floral-pine flavor going on throughout the smell/taste/after-tasting. Personally this is the taste I go for with my IPA's (rather then being too bitter or more of a fruit taste); the Head Hunter does a real nice job, finding a balance and not hopping the hell out of the beer and destroying every other flavor profile. Good Stuff!!

This beer pours a slightly hazy golden orange color with a one finger soapy white head. Not much retention, but excellent sheets of lacing. Smell is pine, citrus and grapefruit. Taste is similar with a huge resiny dankness and a good deal of bitterness on the back end. Feel is light and almost sticky from the dankness. Overall this beer is amazing. Blows a lot of west coast IPAs that are actually from the west coast out of the water. Will need to trade for some more Fat Heads beers soon.
