Poured into a pint glass from a 12-oz brown bottle with a bottled-on date of 15 days ago. Hit with aggressive hop aromas immediately upon pouring. Taste is big, piney hops. There is some citrus flavor, but it wasn't as apparent for me as others had said. The aftertaste is extremely bitter, almost to a fault. All in all though, this is a very well done IPA. (361 characters)

Received this in a trade this weekend. However, it is being poured at about a month and a half after the bottled date. There doesn't seem to be as much of the great citrus flavor I read about. A A little more malt/bread flavor than expected.

With that being said, I do believe this is a fantastic IPA. Having drank it a month + old, I still really enjoyed it. I will certainly try to trade for this again, and re-review (421 characters)

This was poured into a nonic pint glass.
The appearance was a nice looking hazy golden orange color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within less than a minute leaving some light messy lacing sticking and then sliding down into the beer.
The smell started off with bitter fresh pine with a nice citrus blend and then some light caramel malts to balance.
The taste was bittersweet thoroughly. It balances nicely between the malts and the hops. A nice bittersweet citrus aftertaste leads into the finish.
The mouthfeel had a great sessionability and sat about a light to medium on the body. Carbonation runs somewhat light enough to allow the bitterness to take full effect.
Overall, I see the hype behind this beer and am super thrilled that I got to try it and am taking some back to ID with me. (812 characters)

A: [4.00] Pours a light copper to golden color. The beer has a small 1/4 - 1/2 finger of white head. The head is not long lasting. The bottle lists the ABV (7/5%). The is a date code that I cannot figure out.

S: [4.25] Really nice pineapple smell. Also light citrus.

T: [4.25] The taste slightly follows the nose but then deviates. There are still pinapple and citrus flavors. They are subsumed by a nice malty middle. The maltiness has a bready flavor. The malt gives way to a slightly bitter finish.

M: [4.00] The beer is smooth and has a nice mouthfeel. There is a slight pucker factor from the bittering on the finish. It is very welcome for the style.

O: [4.25] I feel pretty good. I did not read the commercial description first and I basically nailed it (pineapple and citrus). Maybe not that great a feat - but I got what they intended. That being said. This is a really solid IPA. Bold fruity flavors - nice and juicy. There is a solid malt backbone to give some bready body to the middle then the bitter finish. The bitter does not linger it is nice and short. Overall this is a really good representation of the style. (1,154 characters)

Poured from bottle into tulip glass.

A dark golden amber with a two-finger off white head that looks deliciously spongy. Leaves lacing even with frequent swirling. This is a really pretty beer.

The nose is full: floral, citrus and biscuit aromas fill the glass. A beautiful bouquet of tangerine and grapefruit pave the way for caramel and biscuity malt.

Taste follows smell: citrus hops start and finish the party while a nice balance of malt carry the beer.

An medium-full body does the beer well.

This drink lives up to the hype. You've gotta snag a four-pack of this if you're able. (593 characters)

Pours a beautiful, fluffy big head, with a vibrant yellow-amber color.

Smells irresistable lemony, very juicy, coated up by toffeeish, balancing malts. Citrus mingles together with dried orange peel outstandingly well, creating a crisp, lemon defined hoppy nose.

Has a medium carbonation with an extremely crisp and dry, refreshing mouthfeel.

Taste mirrors the nose, as it begins with toasty, biscuity malts, as well as bitter, luscious lemons hitting the palate in an uncompromising, fruity fashion. The beers intense lemony hop profile gets enhanced by a mineralic bubbly carbonation, revealing a grassy dryness. This dryness leads to the brews finish, in which the profound lemon character even gets enhanced by a prominent, bitter, lime infused dry note as well as slick sweeter malts, unleashing a very focused lemon fruitiness.

Easy drinking ipa with a great hoppiness to it, gently balanced by sweeter, flavorwise fitting malts, leaving the beers spotlight on the fruity hops flavors. (998 characters)

Color is a golden amber. A lot of tropical fruits here, but also dank and weedy. Mango and pineapple. Very juicy. A solid dipa that I wasn't expecting to be so good. (165 characters)

This beer really stands out especially for the style. Luckily I live in Ohio and enjoy Great Lakes, Thirsty Dog, Fat Head and Hoppin Frog every week. Very nice mouthfeel and taste. Piney and citrus overall a great west coast style IPA. Highly recommend this beer if you can purchase it. (286 characters)

Nice golden color with an off-white head. Great hoppy aroma with a lot of citrus and pine that builds high expectations. Flavor did not disappoint. A lot of citrus and tropical fruits. Noticable mango and less pine than expected. Good malt balance and sweetness without much alcohol heat. Moderate bitterness that finishes clean at first but builds and lingers a little at the end. (387 characters)

Big dank earthy hop character. Hints of citrus, and something that brings up memories of goat feed... Medium bodied, very drinkable. (156 characters)

Bright cloudy orange with a big white head and spotty lacing. Citrus, pine, light tropical note in the back. Bitter citrus and pine with not much of the tropical note coming through and a light grain backdrop. Bitter, resinous and dank. Well carbonated but thinner than I expected from the cloudy look. Overall a very solid IPA with some big bitter citrus and pine components. Mouthfeel lacks a bit and flavor profile lacks real depth but a straightforward hop punch and that's not a bad thing. (500 characters)

Taste is crispwith sine nice malt sweetness seeping in, with some bitterness from the hops. Very well balanced. Finishes nice and dry urging you to drink more. (350 characters)

Hands down the best IPA out of Ohio, and definitely does not get the national credit it deserves. Smell is outstanding with citrus dankness, and tropical fruit. Taste is very bitter, but done exceptionally well. If you like a citrus, resiny, hop explosion, this is for you. Uncivilized and aggressive! (301 characters)

Pours a clear golden color with a white head that leaves a little lacing around the glass. Smell is tropical fruit and citrus right away. Taste starts out with bitter orange/grapefruit rind and then paves way to mango, pineapple, grapefruit, and pine resin. Bitterness is very aggressive, but maybe a bit too much for a tropical fruit bomb like this. Mouthfeel is medium bodied but very drinkable. Carbonation is on the higher side. This may be one of the midwest's best interpretations of a west coast IPA, although I think I prefer White Rajah which I just had recently as well. (581 characters)

Mango nose. Very, very hoppy but not too happy. Citrusy flavors with may be a little a little something in the finnish I can't define other than a good but of hoppiness. Nice for an IPA. Ballsy on the hops. (206 characters)

Wow! Great head and flavor and mouthfeel. Very smooth drinker. Upon first smell and sip all I'm thinking is Resin minus the extra ABV. See it as a go to in the near future....as long as its within reach. (204 characters)

My go-to beer. Possibly the most under-hyped, best tasting IPA available. Similar to all FH's beers, this is a total hop bomb. Honestly, I kind of hope the BA world keeps giving a sh*t less about this beer so I can keep getting it fresh and delish without too much effort. (273 characters)

Clear orange amber with two big fingers of off white head. Moderate lacing.
Smell is mild mango.
Taste is tropical fruits with some pine. Good balance in the hop bill. Malts are lightly sweet and help keep the bitterness in check.
Mouthfeel is smooth well carbonated and medium dry bitter in the finish.
Overall a better than average IPA that is easy drinking. I am glad to have tried it.

12 oz. bottle from a 4-pack: deep, clear golden pour with a quickly receding white-head. There was a date stamped on the bottle indicating the ale was less than a month old.

This ale is exploding with fresh pine, resin and citrus aromas. My cat ran like a bat out of hell after she bravely smelled the bottle opening.

Being fresh, you really can enjoy all the subtleties of bittersweet tropical fruit flavors - the abrasive citrus and the gentler and sweeter marmalade and mango flavors. I am pleased that the piney flavors complement the bitterness and are not dominant.

Nice medium bodied ale with a zesty carbonation; the faint lingering bitterness on the palate eventually gives way to some malt in the aftertaste.

This ale is not very balanced, indeed, that is its strong point for an American IPA. Despite the aggressive bitterness and abrasiveness, this is a very quaffable ale. At 7.5 ABV maybe that is why it only comes in 4 packs. (949 characters)

Mostly grapefruit on the nose but the taste offers a more robust citrus fruit profile, with some pineapple & some other tropical notes to help smooth out the hop punch. An in-betweener, not as easy & smooth as something like two hearted but not a bitter bomb like lots of IPAs (277 characters)

Had heard about Fat Head's on the site for a long time. There is a reason for the hype. This is one of my top "go-to" IPAs. Light, refreshing, dank, and delicious. (163 characters)

Look: Poured an orange color with 1 finger of eggshell white head quickly dissipating into a thin cap. Awesome lacing left on the glass.

Smell: I'm pulling out a lot of grapefruit/citrus in the nose. Nice and hop forward.

Taste: I taste grapefruit and citrus followed by a bit of biscuity/bready malts. Nice bitterness on the back end. Finishes nice and dry.

Overall: Nice IPA, reminds me of Half Acre Daisy Cutter. Wish we could get this in Chicago. (453 characters)

I got this once and it was terribly oxidized and awful which made me not want to get another one but this one has a bottling date of less than 2 weeks old so I gave it another try.

A - Very nice dark honey golden color. Fluffy, fine bubbled white head with very good lacing. Clear beer. What an American IPA should look like.

S - Amazing hop nose with Pacific NW hops. Citrus and grapefruit hop character outstanding. Very slight grain and malt character but the rich citrus, herbal, and resin hop character shines true.

T - Has a great hop flavor that holds the beer nicely on the tongue. It's a pretty big hitting IPA with that resin, citrus, herbal, and grapefruit. More malt sweetness than in the smell that balances nicely. Moderate bitter finish that is accompanied by some sweet multigrain character that makes this a good drinker.

M - Moderate mouth-feel. Moderate carbonation. This one is quite balanced and easy going down. Still sweet on the front and bitter on the finish leaving it balanced on the palate.

Overall, a very good and sterling example of a NW American IPA. I really enjoyed this IPA with the serious American hops and the great balance over the tongue. Not the best IPA that I've ever had but I can understand the awards that this one as won. If you like IPAs no doubt you should get this one.

Really well done. Had to pay a premium for a bottle in CA but glad I tried it. Great ripe citrus and tropical fruit flavor balanced by a solid but appropriately subtle malt backbone. This west coast IPA, made in the midwest, beats out a lot of IPAs actually brewed over here. (275 characters)
