This rich, complex Belgian-Style holiday brew has intricate aromas and flavors of sweet dark malt, dark fruit, raisins, figs, anise and spicy phenols. A thick, creamy head always tops it off.

Poured into a chalice: color is dark amber/light brown, head is light than with fine bubble, head presents one finger thick, some spotty lacing on glass sides. thin solid top remains.

Smell is sweet, dark fruit, dark malt with caramel, figs, raisin, anise, spice, tea, cinnamon.

Taste is dark fruit, figs, raisin, sweet malt, caramel, light roast, anise, spice, tea, cinnamon, clove.

Mouthfeel is low/moderate carbonation, moderate/strong sweetness, moderate bitterness/spiciness; hard to believe this is 10.5%.

Overall a wonderful spiced dark belgian ale, spice is prominent, near overwhelming but sweetness balances.

Slight half fingers worth of medium khaki colored froth with modest at best retention... Color is toffee and there are good bits of light leaking I. Around the edges... Some small slow paced carbonation can be seen towards the top of the glass... Nose is pleasant but rather subdued... Brown sugar, dark fruits and some holiday baking spices... Palate is equally subdued but a bit different in character... Winter spice, light caramel and dark breads... Feel is crisp and medium bodied... There is a slightly chalky finish... Decent enough beer but nothing remarkable - I'll be sticking with the Holly Jolly Java... Hard to believe this is 10.5% ABV...

An unusual finish, largely due to the spice array.

12oz can from Acme Fresh. Dark amber pour with some reddish hues. Aroma brings winter spice, not much else detectable. Taste tries to be malty but is getting crowded out by the generic winter spice flavors. Didn't finish.

Poured from a 12 oz can into a wine glass.

L - Darkest copper, almost mahogany colored; slightly hazy when held up to the light. Massive, fluffy tan head when poured, which faded to a thin sheet, as well as legs and lacing on the glass.

S - Delicious, Belgian aromas of bready malt, dried fruit, molasses-like Special B malt and some subtle spices.

T - Flavors of dark wheat bread, molasses, figs, and raisins, but lightened by a deft addition of spices. I think I detect cinnamon and clove, but whatever they are, they blend perfectly with the other flavors, including the Belgian yeast notes.

F - Medium to heavy body with a silky feel. Moderate carbonation and hops bitterness. Alcohol is obvious, but not boozy.

O - This is an excellent spiced holiday ale that any traditional Belgian brewer would be proud to have brewed. It is among the best Belgian-style ales I've ever had from a US brewery.

if its the holiday season, then its also Quad season. Brewed in the Belgian darker, stronger style, Fat Head's Brewery also thinks that its Yankee Candle season as well.

Dark and rusty crimson, Pimp My Sleigh takes off with a tarnish froth rise to the rim before falling off. As the bubbles pop, the nose fills with a potpourri of holiday spices, caramel, candy and coffee cake in a fruity and spicy medley. Sweeter with the initial sip, bold malt flavors of caramel, toffee, hard candy, sorghum and honey all bring a dessert tone to the session.

Fruit flavors arise on the middle palate with impressions of fig, date, plum, date and raisin, all macerated and seemingly soaked in rum. Prodded along with the spicy balance of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, ginger, cardamom, paradise seed and star anise, the spices of the natural ale and those of additions push the balance far past the fruit and the lingering grain sweetnesses. Trending spicy, mildly bitter and warm with alcohol, the late taste continues those rum cake and coffee cake trends.

Full bodied, warming and decidedly on the sweeter and spicier side of balance, the beer far surpasses the balance of Belgian made Quadruple ale, but for those that want a bold expression of Christmas flare in their beer, then this sleigh is their pimp.

Ahh, another belgian dark strong ale. I had one last night called Winter Warmer by another local brewer, The Brew Kettle. That ended up tasting more like a barleywine. Today it's still chilly outside so I need to warm things up in here and this might just be the way. Poured out with a deep dark amber color, rather opaque and with a creamy full one inch head. After a minute, remnants laced the sides of the glass. This smells a lot like Mad Elf, quite a bit of cherry, raisin, dark fruit and maltiness. Hey it tastes a lot like Mad Elf too, but a little darker. There is a strong cherry presence, along with some spice like nutmeg and cinnamon. Touches of toffee, butterscotch, and caramel help round out the flavor. Stong malt presence, but I really like the spice they use, it gives it a warm rounded rich flavor. Mouthfeel is bright bubbly and effervescent, somewhat thin and watery. The back of my mouth has a slight bit of alcoholic heat to it after swallowing. Overall I think this shows some nice colors in the flavor, it is a flavorful spiced ale that warms the mouth and is perfect for this holiday season.

Pours a very dark brown with a medium tan head which leaves some persistent lacing on the surface. Smell has some depth with a very nice chocolate note going into peppermint patty and then into dark fruit. Taste is sweet throughout. Caramel, milk chocolate, vanilla. But it's somehow not cloying or overly dessert-like. Tastes more like a typical dark belgian than a spicy winter warmer. Surprisingly not very heavy either for such a big beer. Nicely carbonated. Boozy but dangerously drinkable. Very good overall.

bit of a mixed reaction to this one. not sure i'd go for it again... I like this outfit & many of their brews. I think I caught myself breaking my normal rule "no Belgian style" - they just never measure up to the real thing...
L: From the can and it is stylish
S: vanilla, sweet, bit too simple
T: lots of sugar, some stone fruit. alcohol comes through. a lingering bitterness that is not pleasant
F: smooth rich.
O: Just...not...quite...doing...it.

On tap.

A - Burgundy chestnut colored pour with nice clarity and micro-thin lacing.

S - Vanilla and dark sweet malt with a bit of a pastry sweetness.

T - Sugary dark fruit, raisin, dates, and alcohol presence with lingering spice.

M - Big medium body with lots of slick viscosity.

O - This is a really tasty holiday brew!
