On tap at Fat Heads.  Served in a tall half liter glass.

The beer looks very nice for a weizenbock.  It pours a cloudy (muddy) brown color and has nice lace and excellent, fluffy head.  Just a wonder to behold.

Alpenglow smells strongly of bubblegum, banana and clove. Some wheat is apparent as well.  This is a bright take on the style, with an expressive yeast that has a touch more bubblegum that Aventinus.

The beer has a slight spice and wheat then bubblegum, raisin, clove, and banana.  The flavor is really pronounced and pleasant, but the raisin is distracting.  Its almost too earthy and spicy and breaks up the pleasant bubblegum and clove.  Perhaps a bit disappointing after the nice bouquet.

The mouthfeel is creamy with a kiss of carb.  Really good for the style.  Some lingering wheat, sweetness, and bubblegum and raisin linger.  This is a kick-ass American stab at one of the greatest, most perfect beers ever in my opinion (Aventinus).   But the beer falls just a touch short and the flaws make it a disappointment considering the Fat Heads Hefe is just amazing.  Still worth a tick, er, trip.

Dark mahogany with some red tones. Dense head of a buttermilk color. Looks wheaty and thick and gulpalicious. Thick whisps of ring lace.

Banana nut, bubble gum, dark wheat, some toast, some dried fruit sweetness, yeast, German maltiness out the wazoo.

Banana, phenolic mix, yeasty nuttiness, toastiness, rum raisin, sweet booze, medicinal hops, bread, and a hint of juniper berry. Good stuff. Authentically German. A little heady. Very malty and wheaty. No more bubble gum, as was noticed in the nose. Medium-thick body and sweetness with a lot of wet gulp bite. Carbonation is much more relaxed, accentuating a knockout body.

Local weizenbock, for the win. May order another in the next five minutes...

The color is sort of a dark orange-hued bronze, and the pour off the tap produces a fairly sizeable, fluffy off-white head. It manages some heft as it sticks around in some form or other and drops some patchy lacing down the glass, though just a bit more time before it drops to a foam would contribute more to the beer's strong character.
Straight from the pour I get a strong whiff of bubble gum, initially the strongest note in the beer. If anything, it's nice to know they're not skimping on the specialized yeast. Otherwise, it continues from there, this beer really accentuating and determinedly announcing that it is nothing if not a German beer. Wheat forms a strong backbone while the banana, clove and rich dark fruits make this a complete and very good version of the style. I want to rate it higher, except that by standards a Weizenbock's bubble gum character should not be so dominantly high. This doesn't detract from this beer as being a very good one, but its sacrifice of subtlety and overall balance of flavors for strength keeps it from being one of the greats.
The feel is excellent; rich and silky, there's a nice. active bite of crispness that contributes with the wheat in the medium body and a tight carbonation to form a very nice and lasting smoothness.

A warm aroma, and even warmer flavor...a recognizable alcohol presence. Exploding with typical "weizen" flavors, like clove and banana...easily drinkable, with a smooth finish, but some linger, as one would expect from a "dunkelweiss" or "weizenbock" (as Fat Head's brewery describes this brew), It is a more full-bodied weizen bier; dark in color, with a noticeable body...mmmMMMM!!!

Got an 12oz pour at the Pittsburgh Fatheads, not sure when it happened but it now clocks in at 8.7% ABV.

A - Pours a dark tinted amber, almost orange with just a layer of head but it looks creamy.

S - Very impressive smell. Candied banana, spicy clove, touch of sweetness in the nose and no bitterness from hops or yeast.

T - Very subtle alchohol, then rounds to banana sweetness but not too sweet, then covey spice, and finish is sweet. I was mostly impressed by next to none flavors and burn of alchohol.

M - Medium bodied but it drinks nice.

Overall like the wheat wine I am also impressed with their ability to make a very drinkable Weizenbock. Recommended!

Pours a hazy orange-ish to amber color with a light tan head. In the aroma, dark fruit and a mellow wheat presence. In the taste, small dry dark fruit and a nice presence of banana in the end. A small bite and medium to lighter bodied mouthfeel, with a dry banana dark fruit like aftertaste. Nice presence of dry banana to mix with the dark fruit.

Fatheads Alpen Glow

Pours a hazed light brown. Aroma of bubblegum, banana and clove. In the taste, heavy on the banana, alittle spice and alcohol burn. Pretty much estery yeast giving off the banana flavors, which is the one dimensional, yet very nice flavor profile. Some brown sugar, caramel and more banana. Mouthfeel medium bodied and smooth. Overall, a nice brew sure to please any wheat fan.
