Brewers notes:
This silky stout is finished with Caribou Coffee's Lacuna Blend dark roast coffee. A nose of fresh brewed coffee, roasted malt, chocolate and hops. Creamy with flavors of bitter dark roast coffee & roasted malt. Hints of chocolate and even some vanilla come through almost cappuccino-like. Finishes clean and dry with some hop bitterness.

16oz pour, served in an English Style pint glass

A - served with a quarter inch of loose khaki colored foam. the beer is *very* dark brown, ruby highlights on the edges held up to light. random spotty lacing through the drink.

S - coffee dominated, creamed sweet fresh dark roast. dark chocolate, lightly roasted malt and a light nuttyness bring some sweetness. some earthy hops finish it out.

T - coffee comes through very nicely, extremely fresh and bitter yet balanced with some sweetness, a slight vanilla cream...like a great instant coffee powder which works great in a beer. dark roasted malts add another layer of bitterness. very yummy.

M - a little thin on the body, and carbonation is a tad hot...this detracts from an otherwise superb stout. a tad creamy, finishes a bit clean with some lingering coffee bitterness.

D - very nice, yet another impressive Fat Head's brew...one sided and heavy on the coffee but in a great way, only hampered by a mouthfeel that is a bit weak. give me some for breakfast (or dessert) anyday.

Pours jet black with a light tan head. In the aroma, dry coffee and a roasty malt that is faint. In the taste, dry coffee, and a nice roasty malt off sets it well. A smooth and medium bodied mouthfeel and a semi dry coffee aftertaste. Nice dryness to a coffee stout and on cask, uber smooth.

Enjoyed this brew out of a 16oz pint glass.

A: Pours a dark black with a thick dark brown ½-finger head that quickly dissipates and leaves a wispy lace.

S: Strong coffee and malty aromas with hints of chocolate in the background.

T: Slightly astringent coffee flavor mixed with chocolate and malt in good proportions.

M: Medium body and medium carbonation.

O: This was a solid coffee stout - I was thoroughly impressed.

Bean Me Up (imperial coffee stout)

LOOK: Pours a brownish black with no sediment. Light brown colored foam forms and laces the pint nicely. Appears like what you might expect of a coffee stout.

SMELL: Roast, wood tone hops, and certainly a fruitiness full of alcoholic esters. A bit of chocolate and sweet coffee emerges late.

TASTE: Rolled outs, roasted malts, mocha and booze are the major players here. There is a touch of dark fruits and even berry coming from the ale yeast fermentation. Hop bitterness is mild and leafy, kept mostly in check from the other big flavors. Wood and coffee bean come through late. Let this one warm up, that's where the coffee and malts really get to express themselves. Closer to room temperature, a vanilla infused coffee note comes through, which is the highlight of the drinking experience.

FEEL: Ultra smooth, full bodied, medium/low carbonation. Wouldn't surprise me if oats were used in the brewing process, as the beer is smooth and carries a light, oatmeal flavor to go with the coffee and roast.

OVERALL: Another solid beer from Fatheads. Big roast, moderate coffee, easy to drink.

Cask beer served to pint glass. Dark, dark body presents with very thin topping of light tan lace. Aroma is coffee like, burnt, almost acrid. Exactly what is promised by the description on the menu. Flavors are heavily roasted malt, burnt coffee, and a tinge of mocha sweetness. Not much aftertaste to speak of, rare for a beer roasted to this magnitude. Body is limp and ineffectual. Drinkable with my meal but not something I'd wait in line for. Would try next time on tap.
