Pours a four finger lightly-yellowed head that is very fine slowly settles. Liquid is a clear light-copper golden. Smells beery smoke with some fruit. Phenol. Very gentle clean pils malt way underneath the smoke.
Tastes rather unexpected. Definitely a pils with noticeable, but not off-putting smoke. Considering that I find smoke to be off-putting in general, this is an amazing accomplishment on their part. Plus, who would have thought that a pils would work with smoke added. Crazy, but this beer works.
Pils malt flavor with nice sweetness holding throughout. Hallertauer-like hop flavor is floral with oranges and dried wood. Smoke flavor is low on the unpleasant phenols. The smoke is gentle, more like the wood comes across in a smooth whiskey than a char. Mild hop bitter and nice hop grassiness in the finish. Just a dash of hop spciness, I'd have to say if this is a pils, it is on the low end of a Bavarian pils and nowhere near a Czech pils. Complex aftertaste of hop and smoke over a slowly receding malt sweet.
md-light to light mouthfeel that leaves the mouth quickly in the aftertaste. Stingy metallic aftertaste from the medium, but crisp carbonation. Amazingly drinkable for being a smoke beer.

16oz pour at Fat Heads, served in an English-style pint glass
A - dark straw colored beer hoists a finger's amount of loose bubbly white foam which settles to a thin film rather quickly. sparse sticky lacing left behind.
S - assertive woody-like smokiness, cured meats and some faint ash on top of a rich biscuity malt bed.
T - smokey cured meats and burning hickory and wood. some lightly sweet crackery malts hold it up with a very clean Noble hop finish which at times struggles to be noticed.
M - light bodied with sharp playful carbonation. finishes clean and a little sticky with lingering smoke in the mouth.
D - well its decent, but really starts to wear on you about 8oz in...the smoke has a nice "fresh" flavor to it but is really dominating, and unless paired up with some strong flavored food that compliments it, you probably wont be able to drink a few of these.

on tap at fatheads, pgh -> english pint
Arrives a cloudy yellow orange with a large 2inch fluffy head ( um fatheads if your reading this, i paid for 16oz of beer, not 12oz, pour true pints please. I was with a large group or i would of sent this back) Rings of lace.
disclaimer: Fatheads responded to my above statement about the short pour and let me know the keg was super hard to get a pour from, i attributed it to the friday night crowd which was incorrect. I love fatheads and usually get good pours there :) )
Nose: Smoke, meat
Smooth mouthfeel. Wow, dominated by the smoke. Sweet malts poke through, but barely. Some noble bitterness sneaks in at the end, but you have to search for it. Brings to mind cured meat and a nice camp fire.
I prefer Fatheads Gudenhoppy pils, but smoked beer is not really my thing and i was hoping for a subtle smokiness and a big spice hop, but instead got the opposite. Glad I tried one as this style is not easy to find. Alas I could not drink more than one of these, but if your a fan of smoked beers, I'd highly recommend seeking this out in PGH or Cleveland.
