Got this from another BA as a "thank you" for some bottles I gave him some time ago.

Poured from a growler into a pint glass. Pours your typical jet black with, with a substantial 3-4 finger espresso-like crema foam head. Head subsides rather quickly, but the pint leaves mad lacing behind as it recedes down the depths of the glass. The smell is pretty plain. Nothing really distinguishable. The taste has a very pronounced smokiness to it. That smokiness is met some some caramel, vanilla, oak, and a shit load of booze. This is not a very well hidden 9.1% ABV at all. Very alcohol forward. The mouthfeel is thick and creamy, but again, that alcohol is prominent. It coats the tongue, and lingers in the throat long after a sip. Overall, this is a decent enough stout. It's always a joy to get to try a growler of beer that's brewery only from some place you'd likely never set foot inside.

Generously hooked up in a trade from Stigs. Thank you sir.

Pours jet black into my Darkness snifter. A finger and a half of mocha colored head. Lacing clings to the side of my glass. Doesn't look very thick. Hopefully that will not matter. Espresso, bakers chocolate, a bit of fig and some charred wood. Smells decadent. This beer is a bit colder than I would like at the moment, gonna let it warm up a touch. When it did warm up you get smokiness in there and like a bit of burnt meat. Espresso and bakers chocolate on the forefront of the sip. Roast and char with a touch of an alcohol bite in the back of the throat. Plenty of carbonation. Not real chewie like I like my imperials to be.

I will be honest and say I didn't have real high hopes going into this beer. I was let down by Head Hunter so part of me thought this would translate to fail too. Wrong. Tasty little prize and now I am feeling guilty I opened this alone.

Enjoyed on tap in a snifter glass at Fat Head's Brewery & Saloon.

A 1/2-finger mocha-colored head of creamy froth sits atop a pitch black body with no traces of color when held to light. The head slowly recedes in a few minutes to a light dusting and thick foam ring. Thin layers of lacing cling the glass like soap scum.

Dark fruit aromas mingle with dark malts carrying notes of dark chocolate and roasted coffee. Rather familiar aromas here, but the strength of the dark fruit aromas over the coffee and chocolate is interesting. It adds a nice sugary richness to the nose.

Just like the nose, dark fruits start the sip with notes of plum and black cherry. A dry coffee and dark chocolate flavor then blankets the tongue. Creamy at first, the flavor slowly turns to a dry nuttiness at the end. The 9.1% ABV is not noticable in the least.

Full bodied with moderate carbonation, this beer has great drinkability considering its rich flavors. It does not fizz when held in your mouth but it has a creamy quality that makes big gulps possible.

On tap at Fat Heads.

A: Pours a viscous dark brown almost black color with a small tan foam head with decent retention.

S: Tons of rich dark roasted malts. Lots of dark chocolate, espresso, vanilla, burnt wood and smoke.

T: Lots of rich dark chocolate are predominant on the front end. That quickly changes in the middle with espresso, burnt wood and smoke coming to the forefront. The back end finishes woody and smokey.

M: A nice medium/full bodied that leaves a smokey yet creamy taste on the palate.

O: A nice Imperial Stout from Fat Heads. Would have enjoy it more if the smoke was turned down a bit. Definitely worthy of a try!

Fatheads Stone Age

Pours a midnight/oil black with a dark brown head and little in the way of lace, good retention. Smell of roasted malt, coffee, licorice and dark chocolate. This is a very tasty beer, lots of roasted malt. Some smokey flavors come through even alittle rauch like. A good balance of roasted malt and meaty smoked flavors. Black licorice and coffee are in the flavor profile as well. Little in the way of noticable hops, but the beer is well balanced. Thick feel, and overall a really good imperial stout.
