I'm a sucker for the name. Having gotten into the Grateful Dead not a year ago, when I saw this, well... Like the Zappa releases from Lagunitas.. Those were some great beers. So, this must be the same right? It was pricey in a state where ya gotta buy a case, so when I came home to Clevo, I bought one to try.

Poured a bit on the murky dark orange side with little lace and head. Smells of grapefruit and orange and a bit of sweet. Went down with only hints of bitter. Slight foam formed. A bigger swig produced the bitter I was expecting, but balanced and light.

There is tar, grapefruit and orange. Dry and crisp. There is a candy like ending. Dare I say this was a refreshing IPA? Session? They nailed that one. With all the flavor and a low APV... It's a treat.

Appearance: Copper golden color with a semi frothy one finger off white head

Smell: Bright citrus, pine, tropical, grassy, honey biscuit malt

Taste: Zesty citrus (lemon, grapefruit, orange), pine, grassy, bitter. Slight pale malt, but could use more

Mouthfeel: Heavy light body; Smooth with a moderately bitter finish

Overall: Someone please tell me the difference between a pale ale and a session ipa. Anyways, I prefer this over Founders All Day and Stone's Go To. Its light and has plenty of citrus hops but not overly so and bitter like Go To or too malty like All Day. They found a nice balance with this one just like Head Hunter. It also helps that I usually get Fat Head's beers within a week or two of bottling. Between this, Head Hunter, and JUJU, they're amongst the leading breweries in the world when it comes to IPAs! However, I think $12 a six pack is a little steep for a session ipa, and may as well grab Head Hunter over this every time.

Bottle poured into a teku

A - Pours a hazy orangish-yellow. 1.5 finger head with a decent amount of sediment.

S - Bright citrus. I'm getting grapefruit and orange up front. There is also a tiny touch of pine and dankness in the background.

T - Citrus is the main flavor but the pine and dankness is more prominent than the nose suggests. Finishes with some dry crackery malt backbone.

M - Finishes very clean and dry.

O - For what it is and what the intention was, it's pretty spot on. I have a hard time calling it sessionable at it's abv but for a lower ABV IPA, it's bright, flavorful, and clean. It's simply a more subdued version of Head Hunter. Very nice to drink.

Fat Heads Sunshine Daydream

Sigh . . . Hippies. ( honestly I've always kinda admired them )

Poured into pint glass

A: A very nice opaque orange. Nice because this is the first "session ipa" I've had that actually has some color.

S: Citrus, floral notes, fresh cut grass and if I'm not mistaken galaxy hops ?

T: Hold on . . . I have the hic-ups . . . Ok, taste is the same. Really very flavorful for a sessionable ipa. Flavors walk step in step with with what's on my nose. Sunshine Daydream is as close to a "regular" ipa as I've enjoyed.

M: Easy drinking . . . watch out for this one. Smooth and very well carbonated.

O: I'm one of those guys that really likes this style. I can appreciate the niche these are trying to fill for those who . . . (Gasp) . . . Like flavor and low abv% . . . So far the best sessionable ipa I've been privileged enough to enjoy. Well done Fatheads. But when golfing . . . I'm still taking All Day ipa with me. CAN IT !!!

Bright golden copper body with a light pale white head, forming nicely with even lacing distributed on the sides of the 16 ounce nonic pint glasses they use at Fat Head's. One of the only hoppier offerings on tap, last night when we stopped in for dinner on the way back from Sandusky. Aroma has nice floral, tropical fruit, and pine ridden hop expressions, with underlying bready malts to complement the resinous hop tones. Each sip was as aggressive as the next, very hoppy dry bitter finish, floral, citric, and mango notes of hops explode even some resinous pine accents. I was taken aback by how hoppy their session IPA is, I love me some Headhunter sadly it wasn't flowing, but this was a solid substitute. Mouthfeel was medium bodied some resinous oily hop texture, with sturdy flowing carbonation...went down smooth nice lasting dry bitter hop finish in each sip. Overall a very impressive beer, that I fully enjoyed. Next visit I plan to make a day out of it, I was just stopping in with the family for a nice meal and a few beers. We had a nice mix of great service, food and beer.

4/18/14 Bottle Review:

Bottled on 4/10/14 that's as fresh as your going to find a session IPA...pours a pale copper hue with slightly off white khaki head forming thick nice head even lacing.

Aroma has citrus peel, mango, peach pit, a bit of dank hop qualities, nice to see this offering come out in the beginning of the warmer months. Clean biscuit malt extremely pale malts here folks, but nice hop effects along the way.

Flavor comes off nice and bitter, juicy hops, with a watery pale malt profile dank hops in the backend a hint of tart peach and mango juice/nectar without any residual sugar very dry finish going on.

Mouthfeel is light nearly water like texture, slightly slick hop oils goes down easy. Carbonation is a bit much here, I poured a sturdy pour and let the carbonation settle down a bit after my first two bottles. Seems to bring the flavors together much better after letting it sit for a bit.

Overall, nice beer easy drinking hoppy session ale.

It's nice to see Fat Head's coming into Toledo, at least at The Attic.

The color is a clear bright orange. A tight head grows about a finger tall and takes time to fade but never fading much. Pretty plentiful patchy lacing remains on the glass.
There's plenty of citrus in this beer, going both somewhat in the juicier sense as well as some rind/zest. It mixes with floral hops and a bit of pine. Just enough malts to keep it hop-forward but not abrasive give a bit of breadiness and make it nicely balanced. Herbal character and a touch of pith make their way into a mostly dry finish that lingers a bit.
The body is medium with a active carbonation. Smoothness and crispness are about even, both at a good keel, and some dryness pulls out into the finish.

Had on tap at Fat Heads. Review from notes.

A: Pours a clear bright orange color with a small white foamy cap on top, little retention, leaving a small ring. Little bits of lacing form.

S: Citrus and tropical fruits, some pineapple, grapefruit, and a bit of rind.

T: Similar to the aroma, plenty of citrus - more grapefruit, pineapple, and a bit of orange. There was a little bit of pine that showed up after the fruit along with a little bit of pale malt.

M: On the lighter side of medium bodied with medium carbonation. Crisp and easy drinking.

O: One of best beers I had at Fat Heads, lots of flavor packed into a relatively "small" beer.

Clear golden ale, topped by a modest white head. Good retention and tons of lacing.

Bright, juicy aroma with a touch of dank herbs; Citra immediately comes to mind. A touch of floral, wildflower honey as it opens up.

Big bright juicy hop flavors up front, with a strong dank profile for the second half. Malts make a very light, grainy appearance.

Lively but watery feel, typical of "session" IPAs.

As far as low ABV IPAs go, this is pretty good. The hops are definitely showcased. I much prefer a beer with far more heft and more malt balance, personally.

I LIKE THE SUNSHINE DREAM!!! Please do not mass produce and kill the taste a la Z'Dust!!! This beer is a light version of the original Z'Dust. The beer pours a clear golden color with thin white head that is leaving a lace. The scent carries wonderful citrus, pine and orange spice. The taste follows the nose and comes off the pallet fairly clean. The mouthfeel is light in body with good carbonation. Overall this is an absolute solid beer!!!

Smell - Very nice hop aroma. Citrus and tropical fruits. Light cracker malt.

Taste - Citrus hops. Lightly sweet pale malts. A little bit of cracker. Very low bitterness.

Mouthfeel - Crisp. Medium light. Well carbonated.

Overall - Delicious session. I hope this is around all the time.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a SA perfect pint. Bottled on 4/24/14; super fresh. This appears a very clear golden-yellow color with a fluffy white head. The head has good staying power, and leaves beautiful lacing.

The nose is full of citrus, with hints of melon, tropical fruits and a touch of pine. The malt is non-existent in the nose, as one would expect from a session IPA. The taste follows a similar profile, with the citrus, and pineapple dominating, again with the pine hidden in the background. There's almost no detectable malt here, except for a touch of sweetness in the middle.

The mouthfeel is light-medium bodied, as you would expect from a session IPA, and the finish is fairly dry. The carbonation is nice and active, and works well. Overall, this is a great session IPA, and an above average IPA. The citrus and tropical fruits are the star here, and will be very refreshing on a hot summer day.

Sunshine Daydream Session IPA brewed by Fat Heads Brewery & Saloon with an AVB of 4.9%. This brew pours out a nice amber color with a nice, white head. Sunshine Daydream Session IPA is an unfiltered brew. The smell is rich with flavor, but you pick up on some bitterness in the smell. The taste is bitter at first, but it gets better. You pick up on Grapefruit. The aftertaste is nice. Mouthfeel is ok. Overall I'm giving this brew a 3.25 of 5

This pours rather cleanly with a clean filtered brassy color. The head was weak fizzy an had no retention.

The hops are strong and varied on the nose. Mostly herbal tones like pine, onion, cannabis and chive but I get a honey, lemon and grapefruit.

The flavor is herbal with more floral hop notes than citrus. The flavor is also quite strong and satisfying for a session ale. The hops are herbal and onions with a real honey sweetness. The flavor has more lemon than the nose with some malty tea leaf.

The feel is so smooth and light and it drinks easy and quickly. I had finished it before I was done with this review.

This is a hop lovers dream as the hops are dominant, prominent and hold several diverse tastes. I do think that my palate may not have received them quite as well as most.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a rich golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is strong of citrus hops. Taste is hoppy, considerable bitterness, citrus, resin, finishes dry. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a solid beer.

Sunshine Daydream Session IPA from Fat Heads Brewery & Saloon. Another recommendation by the knowledgeable fellow employed at Rt. 62 Butts and Brews in Stark County,OH. Poured from the bottle into a glass, this brew's got a minimal head that disappears in a flash. Clear golden straw body.

Smells like the fruits mentioned on the label. Also a fair amount of hop aromas. This really has got a summer vibe going on.

The IPA hop bitterness is certainly there, along with small hints of the fruits.

Mouthfeel is clean and dry.

Overall a 4 for Sunshine Daydream Session IPA from Fat Heads Brewery & Saloon. I really dig the tropical theme going on here. They pulled off a killer brew here. I will buy this brew again!

Fat Heads Sunshine Daydream

Look 9/10
Smell 19/20
Taste 36/40
Feel 9/10
Drinkability 18/20

Overall 91/100

Real nice flavor profile for a season... Rather big hop profile, which I didn't expect. Nice creamy feel. Sure it's a session, which I don't personally love. That's said, It has a rather big flavor profile. Smooth and hoppy

Final Verdict: A real nice session IPA worth seeking out. Fat Heads had been brewing beer out there mind lately! Why pass if you have the chance?

Bottle shared by a kind person at the Jack's Abby Tap Takeover in Rochester, NY.

Pours out a golden orange/yellow, with a one inch head, and a little bit of lacing down the glass.

Smells very Citra like- slightly catty, with stronger citrus aromas- orange, pineapple, and grapefruit. Very fresh smelling.

The taste is pretty similar. Fresh, zesty citrus taste, with some slight grassiness, and a little bit of lingering bitterness.

Light bodied, great, crisp mouthfeel. High carbonation.

It was nice to see this brought out at the takeover, thanks to the person who brought it!

12 FL. OZ. bottle
Served in a teku glass

A - It is amber with golden highlights. It is topped with an inch of off-white head.

S - I get some dank citrus.

T - I taste fresh, dank hops. There is plenty of citrus, too.

M - Watery

O - It has good flavor. I am just turned off by the watery mouthfeel of the session IPA's.

I don't know how they do it but they got a good intense bitterness with a smooth malt profile with a nice body and a session able drink able ness.

Best session IPA I ever had? I guess that is for debate but I seem to enjoy it and even though it was on closeout (summer beer not sold before winter) it still holds up as a great IPA with the bitter taste.

Get it if you cant chug their Head Hunter IPA!

Bottled on 4/7/14. 12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours golden with a slight haze and bubbles swimming upwards; fluffy white head that fades and leaves great retention and nice lacing. The aromas are dank. Typical Fat Head's. Tons of grapefruit. Some mango and pineapple in the mix as well. Subtle hints of caramel malts. Smells great. The flavors are pretty impressive. There's a very solid bitterness. 60 IBU is impressive for such a small beer. Lots of citrus and tropical notes. Some grass. Some fresh pine needles. More grapefruit rind. This is obviously west-coast all day. Mouthfeel is nice. It's light with a solid body. The carbonation is active and smooth. Alcohol obviously goes unnoticed. It's smooth and extremely easy to drink.

This is another winner from Fat Head's. I'm glad they decided to bottle this one. This can easily go up against the best Session IPAs in the country. Well done.
