Beautiful tan three finger head atop a solid dark mahogany pour, dark as motor oil, spotty lacing in the tulip.

Dark chocolate and malt/grain,somewhat roasty too, very pleasant.

Subtle chocolate and cream flavors play out nicely with some solid roastiness, nice little hop kick at the end, clean finish.

Creamy medium mouthfeel, well carbonated, exceptionally drinkable.

A previous reviewer suggested pairing Oompa Loompa with a quality cheddar cheese, and I would concur with that fine suggestion. This is a great choco cream stout that is far less sweet and root beery than Samuel Smiths version. I highly recommend this one, Fathead's knows beer! (653 characters)

Poured from the bottle into a nonic pint glass.

A big dark and aggressive appearance on this guy. Thick and creamy with some soapy retention, but a large fist full tall head, and VERY dark brown mahogany color getting into imperial supper territory color. Body matches, with thick midnight black body and no see through character at all. Large, dark, bold, and impressive.

Very nice bouquet. Soft malted grains, creamy senses of vanilla and milk, light bodied, but large roast character without any dry scorching sensations on the nostrils at all. Hints towards clove spice but with roast qualities taking the stage. Soft, creamy, with a molasses subtle sense.

Real nice brew on the palate. Milky light chocolate but lots of whoppers candy like flavors and whipped up cream. Mouthfeel coats nicely with just a touch of wet but works for the lighter style. Creamy and light, but rich in chocolate whip topping, a hint of sweetness matches on the finish. Molasses sticky quality hits on the palate but with no sugar or sticky qualities. Extremely clean finish.

Stupidly drinks real easily, and one of the nicer simpler stouts I've had in quite some time. (1,156 characters)

Poured from a "stubby" 12oz. bottle into a nonic pint glass.
Dark brown/black with ruby highlights capped by a thick tan head of foam.
Aroma-Faint roasted malts
Taste-Dark chocolate, subtle vanilla bean, dark roasted malts, faint hop bite. Creamy, roasty, tasty and well-balanced. An easy-drinking stout that would be an excellent match for any BBQ dish. (354 characters)

12 ounce bottle. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours dark brown/black with about a half inch light tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like bittersweet chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla, cream/lactose, and a light minerally aroma. It tastes mostly just like the aroma is, like dark chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla, and some minerals. For some reason this brew really reminds me of drinking an oyster stout. And since I like those, it's a good thing in this case. But even then I have no idea why I'm picking that flavor up in this brew. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's creamy and has a good amount of carbonation. I think it's a good brew, I know I won't have any problems finishing this 6-pack! $10.99 a sixer. (759 characters)

The label is classic Fathead's dude as an Oompa Loompa, the beer sounds sickeningly sweet thank the beer gods and Matt Cole that's not the case here. Pours a deep dark almost black with ruby cola tinted highlights with a dark cocoa bean tan head leaving light speckled bands of lacing around the sides of my glass. Aroma has sweet vinous undertones rounded out with dark chocolate roasts and hints of vanilla bean and a smidge of lactose creaminess rolling in the backend. Flavor has a balanced sweetness with dark chocolate cacao style roasted malts, a dry finish not overtly creamy or sweet compared to other milk (cream) stouts around. Dark Belgianesque chocolate hits with a nutty dark roasted coffee flavor with layered hints of vanilla bean additions peaking through. Mouthfeel has some warming alcohol shows up a bit, which is surprising considering it's only 6.5% abv, lingering bitterness from dark chocolate and herbal hops breaking through just barely. Medium to full bodied with flowing carbonation levels, goes down extremely smooth and easy. Overall a nice change of pace from the regular Fathead's lineup, roasted dark chocolate bitterness intermingles with hints of vanilla bean again thank the beer gods and Matt Cole for having the foresight not to make this a lactose bomb, in fact it's very much balanced and approachable. My cigar pairing for this beer came from Nicaragua Don Pepin Garcia's My Father cigars blended by Pete Johnson of Tatuaje for Janny Garcia: La Duena #2 Belicoso it paired well with the spicy Nicaraguan tobacco and dark tannins of the rich cigar which brought leather, spice, pepper, and black walnuts to the party. (1,657 characters)

Huge aroma full of chocolate, vanilla, and charred wood. Chocolate is more subtle in the flavor, but it's there. More char, coffee, and a bite from the hops in a dry finish. Good flavor, great balance, more hops than most stouts.

This is one to find. (252 characters)

thanks to nhindian for the sweet extra. enjoyed from a sam adams snifter.

a - brew was a bit of a gusher and opened with a huge pop and began foaming from the bottle. it poured a watery black with a mega foamy head. settled in the glass black as night and the head hung out forever consuming at least 30% of the glass even with a careful pour.

s - smells of roast and char. some baker's chocolate and vanilla.

t - taste is really nice. baker's chocolate with vanilla almost milk stout. very yoo hoo.

m - soft and subtle, carbonation is soft prickles. really easy drinking.

o - overall a rather nice stout. milky and creamy. silky and smooth. a delight. (657 characters)

A dark ruby black pour. It's only got some light shades when held to a light. The head is two fingers of light brown creamy foam. You can see how creamy the beer is just from the pour. The head dissipates leisurely leaving a creamy lace.

All malt with a splash of vanilla. Caramel and chocolate come forward as the beer warms. Nothing in the way of hops presents itself.

Very malty and heavy, but not overbearing, on the chocolate, bittersweet variety. Still no hop presence, but the chocolate does it's part for balance. Vanilla is a bit player.

Extreme creaminess. Sweet early, the bitter. Heavy body. Wet sloppy finish. No carbonation anywhere.

It's a really nice stout. Fairly sweet for a stout, but never over the top or cloying. The bittersweet chocolate provides both the sweet and the bitter, for a surprising, easy to drink beer. (843 characters)

Poured into one of my pint glasses out of a 12 oz bottle, this beer pours a very dark brown, almost black color with a nice very fluffy tan head that is well over an inch thick when first poured. After a few sips the head eventually settles to a nice thick tan ring lining the inside of the glass along with generous swirls of foam on the beer's surface and nice lacing on the inside of the glass. Aromas of roasted chocolate malt, vanilla, a hint of coffee, and is rounded out with a hint of roasted nuts. The taste pretty much follows suit, a nice roasted chocolate malt sweetness upfront that gives way to vanilla and coffee and a bit of roasted nut to round things out. Very nice mix of flavors that really come out and gel with each other very nicely as the beer sits and warms up a bit. Has a crisp, frothy, creamy, light to medium bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Coats the inside of the mouth quite nicely, but I wish the body was a bit thicker. All around a very tasty beer.

A: Very dark brown. Mostly opaque, so appears black in the glass. Forms a modest, light tan colored head, that reduces to a patchy surface coating. Leaves some moderate lacing on the way down.

S: Not overly aromatic and what is there isn't all that great: cola, acidic coffee, and cocoa.

T: Ah, the taste is much better. Moderately sweet with a nice lusciousness. Chocolate, cola, and vanilla along with some roasted malts and a touch of coffee. Vanilla sweetness on the back end.

M: Again, a very respectable mouthfeel for a stout. Full bodied and voluptuous with a pleasant roundness in the mouth. Moderate sweetness. Slight cocoa chalkiness. Mild bitterness.

O: A nice beer. Aroma doesn't do it justice, and while the flavors are quite nice, the mouthfeel on this beer really help its finer qualities display themselves. (831 characters)

Pours a pitch black from a bottle into a duvel glass. I can see my own reflection. About an inch of dark brown head which turns to a small ring around the top of the brew. leaves a light lacing throughout entire glass.

Tons of chocolate smell with a raisin oder at the end, creamy mouthful, with vanilla and chocolate opening. Ends with a caramel sweetness mixed with a light bitterness to level it out.

Overall an excellent American stout that I will look forward to every year. (483 characters)

A-Pours dark brown with a thick creamy head that lingers
S- dark chocolate, marshmallow, some vanilla
T/M- creamy chocolate, cinnamon undertones, slight smokiness, some vanilla, lactose, milky smooth texture
O- I think I expected too much from this. The texture is pretty great but for a beer themed around chocolate, I could have gone for more. The flavors are all good but they're pretty subtle. It's pleasantly easy drinking, great tasting stout that leaves a nice chocolate aftertaste. Well done (499 characters)

Pours a deep black with ruby highlights. Thick (fat?) head of tan foam. Gorgeous lace.

Nose is roasty chocolate and some vanilla bean in the background. Very appealing.

Flavor is rich and chocolatey, with large amounts of bittersweet dark chocolate and a slight burnt finish. A fine stout, and one I'll gladly revisit. (320 characters)

Cute label. Solid black color with about 3/4" of tan head. The foam laces a little bit.

Dark chocolate and berries and plum in the nose. Soft maltiness with a hearty roast. Yeast smells like this stout has a Belgian flair with that fruitiness. Not picking much, if any, vanilla.

No lactose present, rather mostly berried and chocolaty in flavor. Vanilla appears in the background and grows in the finish. Bitterness is a little bigger than I was expecting, but it keeps the drinkability high and worrying about too much sweetness forgettable. The roast is more showy, too. Good flavors, not overdone.

Full and creamy, but the aggressor is a vibrant carbonation that scuffs across the tongue. Hardly a trace of booze. Well-balanced.

Delicious simple stout. Would totally recommend this to many. It's quiet for the label description, but it's a complete beer for flavor, feel, and aroma. (889 characters)

Fatheads Oompa Loompa Choclate Cream #tout is sweet stout that pours jet black with just a touch of raisin plum color when held to a light,~ Colossal head, more head than Violet Beaurgarde on prom night, about three fingers tall and lasted for what seemed more than a whimsical whim~ Palette was fuller than Augustus Gloop and had enough cream to make you feel about as glutinous~ Nose is Mocha, Root Beer, Vanilla, buttery and had more coco to make Arthur Slugworth jealous~ Taste is just a complete Wangdoodle! A chocolate river floats into Vanilla Bean, Maple, Roasted Marshmallow, Caramel, Butterscotch, Ice Mocha, Cola, Chocolate Milk, Frosty/Jamocha shake with Hornswaggler and Snozzwangler rounding out the back end~ This is the golden ticket! Finish is a bit bitter and very sweet, Mr. Turkentine says odds are this is a brew you will approve of, I think Grandpa Joe would agree, to bad you need a Veruca Salt pedigree to acquire it~ Overall: 91 (953 characters)

Snagged a bottle of this for around 3 bucks.

A - Defiantly not as much head as I expected just a 1/4 inch of deep mocha head that settles to just a muld lace ring. Color is fairly dark with some clarity at the base of the glass.
S - Smell is rather mild with lactose, cocoa powder, and mild roasts.
T - Very balanced actually the flavors of burnt sugars are minimal with some underlining cocoa powder, chocolate syrup, and a bit of herbal hops with a touch of roast in the finish.
M - Worst part it's not very creamy as one would expect for a cream stout but it's still drinks with a medium body so it's a pretty nice stout.

Overall I think I would pick up a four pack since this drank very well. I am surprised at the reviews but if it truly was a sweeter stout people would complain too. I got what I expected. (815 characters)

Fat Heads Brewery and Saloon
Oompa Loompa Chocolate Cream Stout

Pours a very dark, oily black color. Oompa Loompa leaves some scattered lacing from a chocolatey looking off white foam.

In the aroma, smoke, dark chocolate and a bit floral. Smells pretty inviting like a good stout should.

The chocolatey nose gives way to a charcoal like, burnt toast flavor. Dark chocolates emerge in the aftertaste, as well as a small alcohol heat. Low to moderate hop bitterness and flavor, but this beer is far from cloying, or really, being all that sweet.

Full bodied, smooth, with a high level of carbonation. Leaves behind a little bit of dark chocolate on the palate.

OVERALL: A pretty good stout, but not my favorite Fat Heads has done. I was hoping for a bit more chocolate or vanilla flavor given the name. Still, a well made beverage and I would certainly drink this again. (873 characters)

Had on tap in a pint glass.

Pours a nearly opaque black with a one finger dark tan head. Average lacing and head retention.

Aroma of roasted malt and vanilla with a little hint of chocolate. Some toast and yeast is present in the background.

The flavor expands on the same characteristics found in the aroma. Lots of chocolate with vanilla and moderately roasted malt. There is a sweetness throughout that can get to be a little much at times. Moderate bitterness.

Overall, a nicely done stout with some nice chocolate and roast qualities. I wasn't blown away however, and I feel there are much better stouts out there. (623 characters)

Pours a nice black, solid, with a 2 finger of dark tan head. Th aroma isn't too pungent, but there's some soft chocolate and vanilla notes, with roast and a light fruit note. Taste shines so much more with a rich dark chocolate, earthy vanilla, roast, light coffee, and sweet nuttiness. Mouthfeel is a bit prickly with a somewhat elevated carbonation level and a upper medium body. A little up in down, but the high points are high and its enjoyable in the end. (461 characters)

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours almost opaque dark brown color with a nice 2 finger dense khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of milk chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, light coffee, vanilla, toast, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of roasted notes and vanilla. Taste of milk chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, vanilla, light coffee, herbal, toast, and light roasted earthiness. Lingering notes of chocolate, roasted malt, cocoa, vanilla, light coffee, and roasted earthines on the finish for a bit. Very nice balance of roasted flavor with cocoa and vanilla; with moderate sweetness and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a moderately creamy and slightly slick mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice milk stout. Good robustness and balance of flavors; and very smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering. (1,085 characters)

Had this on 2014-03-03 in Columbia, PA

A - Opaque dark brown with a 3-finger dark tan head and nice lacing.

S - Chocolate, coffee, malted milk, roasted grain. Very nice.

T - Milk and dark chocolate, char, light coffee, toffee and curdled cream, which adds a milk sugar and tart flavor. Finishes pretty clean with lingering roasted and hop bitterness.

M - Light-medium body and carbonation. Creamy but on the thinner side; more like a Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald than a Founder's Porter.

O - Another good brew from Fat Head's. (534 characters)

Poured from a bottle into my trusty Left Hand Brewing big Tulip glass. My expectations are high as the lads from Fat Head have yet to disappoint.

A - Very dark black coffee coloring, with a very rich tan head that recedes and leaves a slight lacing and a thin layer on top

S - As expected, gobs of chocolate, slight hint of vanilla and a wiff of cinnamon,

T - Strong semi-sweet chocolate on the front end, some nice toasty malts and a smooth vanilla finish.

M - Creamy, medium bodied and medium carbonation.

O - This is a very drinkable beer more subdued than I expected but very tasty, the lads did not disappoint. (620 characters)

I hate getting the oompa loompa song in my head. That's the worst thing about this nice little brew. The brew hits the glass black and lacey. Very nice looking.

The aroma is faint but pleasant. The taste is similarly under the radar. It is very drinkable. The aftertaste is a bit better. The complexity is nice and you could have a few of these and it is reasonably priced. (375 characters)

Pours jet black with a small light tan head. In the aroma, a small roast and chocolate. In the taste, lots of chocolate up front, with a small spice underneath. A small spice like bite and a medium to lighter bodied mouthfeel, with and dry spice of cinnamon and all spice in the aftertaste. Quite nice, just the wrong time of year for me. (338 characters)
