Absolutely gorgeous stout: dark and inky, topped with a very firm mocha head, with excellent retention and great lacing.

Fairly subdued and traditional imperial stout aroma: roast coffee, a touch of chocolate, some dark fruit, and a hint of yeast esters. Toffee and marshmallow underneath the powerful roast.

Flavor closely follows the nose: a bit of dark fruit (not at all tart, though); tons of roasted barley and coffee flavor; exceptionally bitter dark chocolate flavor; grassy, vegetal hops tinged with more citrus than I would have expected. Citrus peel aftertaste.

Very drinkable and big; pretty thick stout. Long, lingering finish, coating the mouth with bitter hop oils.

This is a very good, very drinkable stout. It's not breaking any new ground, but it does everything very well.

On tap at Fatheads Pittsburgh

A- pours black as night with a one-finger creamy khaki head that reduces to a thin film, nice lacing left behind

S- charred toasted malt up front leads to aromas of coffee and dark chocolate malt, undertones of pine and citrus hop

T- dark chocolate malt base with some smoky charred notes, hints of coffee kick in mid-palate before giving way to citrus and piney hops that continue into the finish with more coffee with more char and dark chocolate on the linger

M- medium body and carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that continues into a creamy finish

O- nice blend of piney hops and charred chocolate malt, drinks like a black ipa

12 ounce bottle, bottled on 12/29/14. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch and a half tan head that stuck around for a little while. There's also a lot of lacing. The brew smells like roasted malt, pine and citrusy (orange peel, grapefruit) hops, bittersweet chocolate, and a bit of coffee. The taste is pretty much the same as the aroma, but there's also some burnt/charred malt and dark breadiness noticeable. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's creamy and coating with a good amount of carbonation. I think this is a good hoppy stout, its definitely worth picking up! $10.99 a 4-pack.
