Somebody said this drinks like a Black IPA and they are spot on - the problem is it has all the intense roastiness of an imperial stout, plus a bitter finish. Makes for a less than enjoyable beer. Really surprised at all the high ratings on this one.

Pours an opaque black. Very smooth tasting with a balanced hop presence. Coffee and dark chocolate flavors with a hint of bitterness in the finish. Full bodied. 8 abv.

Description: Black with no light coming through, like a stout should be. Small amount of slightly off-white head. Smell is roasty and smoky but overall not a very rich, full aroma. A bitter, roasty taste that's more dark chocolate than anything else. Kind of hoppy for a stout and really reminded me of a rich, black IPA. The feel was nice: not quite syrupy but has some velvetiness [Is that a word?] and is low carbonation.
Suggested food pairing: Pot roast

Overall: 4 (This beer is good and I may or may not have it again) Pretty decent beer but nobody would mistake it for a really elite stout. If this stout were on a basketball team, it would be the eighth or ninth player in the rotation. It has some abilities. It can help you out here and there. Maybe if there are a few injuries you temporarily insert this stout into the starting lineup, but it'll never be an all-star.

A decent offering. A little to much intense, dry bitterness for my taste. But, not a beer that I'd avoid.
