Amber and slightly hazy, an off-white high head that recedes slowly leaving lots of lacing. Good curtains.

The smell is very floral and citric, pine, pine resion and grape-fruit.

The taste strats sweet toffee, then grape-fuit juice and peel, pine resin as well.

Medium carbonation, smooth and oily, a bit sticky. A dry finish.

A mature DIPA, more balanced than the bottle I tried a couple of years ago.

Served through a bottle into a snifter. Room temperature.

A: It´s described as golden yellow but I see it as obviously amber. The head is at first fluffy but slowly fades away leaving a thin layer of foam on top of the beer. The head is at all times beige.
It´s slightly fizzy, moderatly one might say. Really clear, no cloudiness in this one.

S: The American hops in this one is the first thing that hits me. Tropical fruit of a citrusy character like mandarin and orange peel. Also a bit like kiwi fruit. I get a vague buttery smell too and maybe some passion fruit.

T: Hops! And it´s originated from the United States of America. Just like the smell it´s tropical fruit with a citrusy touch towards orange peel, clementines and kiwi.
Really bitter at the root of the tounge.
There´s also some buttery taste to it that leans towards the taste you get when licking batterys.
The malt is otherwhise not very apparent but there´s a vague bready sweetness.

M: Moderatly carbonated. Dry to the palate, really gives the mouth that feeling when you drink something really hoppy.
A slight warmth from the alcohol and a surprisingly smooth feel to it.

O: By Swedish standards a great IPA, by American standards a good IPA. I feel that it misses a balance between the hops and it lacks that WOW-factor. It´s a safe bet but it doesn´t do to me what Pliny does, doesn´t really come close to Pliny.
Gets a bit off at the bottom of the glass.

Man. These Swedes sure love their hops. On Tuesday the rack was full at Systembolaget of these and on Friday, there was only one bottle left. Maybe someone was loading up for the weekend. Or maybe someone loved them that much. But, to the judgement:

Pours amber orange. Real striking hop nose. Pine and salt and some citrus abounds. Same in flavor. A real punch in the mouth. Firm and not seeking a balance at all. It's a hop bomb and a slap in the mouth. And overall, not too shabby.

The colour is deep red-amber. The three finger head is pale beige and compact. It sinks very slowly, leaving lots of thick lacing on the glass.

The smell is very hoppy, the flavours are almost thick. Sweet citric fruits, grape fruits, resin, margarine, bread, fruit drops and a mellow bitterness. It is not as aggressively bitter as I had expected.

The taste is also very hoppy with quite a lot of American citric flavours. The bitterness is robust and powerful. Some oily flavours and notes of bread and ham. Lots of hops, but the bitter flavours aren't that long lasting. Hints of lemons and mild cheese. The aftertaste is sour-bitter (like lemon juice) with some simple sweetness and flowery hints. The finish is sourish with grapefruit notes of rye crisp bread.

The carbonation is mild; the bubbles are small. The liquid is semi-smooth.

I don't know. With the advance rumours ("It is inspired by Pliny the Younger") and the massive amounts of hops, I have expected something really extra. Right, this is an okay beer, but it is not the brutal hop sensation I had hoped for.

Pours a clear copper coloured liquid with a rather weak head, pretty boring colour.

Smells alot weaker than I had expected (from 7 different hops!) What first hits me is that it's a bit milky lactose kind of thing to it, hard to explain. But there are also pine, resin, grape and weak blood orange, all fainter than I was expecting.

Well, it sure tastes like an IPAm but I dont know about the Extra. Some fresh citrus, humble pine resin and pine needles, and a bitter hint of bark (maybe from pine as well!) in the end.

Creamy mouthfeel, stingy and pretty astringent.

The brown 50 cl short-necked bottle together with the label which only states the name in white looks very cheap.

A: Cloudy amber with a light rather small white head that dissipates slowly leaving lot of lacings.

S: Yeast and bread. Floral hops, american-style - piney and citric.

T: Lots of american floral hops, piney and citric in nice balance. But there are also lots of bitter hops. Flowery.

M: Aftertaste is long and bitter. Body is medium and the carbonation is rather rough, but medium strong.

D: If you (like me) are into hops this is a great beer, but I lack the maltyness...
