A: Pours almost black with a large warm compact and creamy head that slowly sets into pretty nice lacings.
S: Roasted malts, only some sweetness too this drysmelling beer. Liqourice and vanilla. Some artificial perfume and some coffee. Grapefruits.
T: Strong coffee with cream. Milk chocolate. Roasted malts, somewhat sweet. Faint vanilla. An American hoppy backbone brings pine and citrus as well as bitterness.
M: A hard roasted and bitter aftertaste lingers for quite some time. Body is medium to full while carbonation is held back.
O: The best part is the smoothness. A nice example of the style with extra credits for the well balanced smoothness.

Testing this beer well chilled, poured from a bottle into a tulip glass.
A: As stated on the label, this is a black IPA with a dark red/brown hue that you can see when holding it up against a bright light. Pouring the beer into the glass creates a thick, yet pretty small, foam head of light brown color. Twirling the glass enriches the foam head and shows that there are plenty carbonation creating a storm of small bubbles underneath the foam head.
S: Very hoppy and very fresh smell, there are tones of malt here but not as roasted as i would have expect from a black IPA.
T: There are loads of hops in here doing a fantastic work. Starting of with that fresh taste, then going to a more sweet nectar like taste, and eventually more and more bitter just in time as the malty tones comes in to the picture. Yet, like the smell, i would have expected a more roasted malty taste.
M: It starts with an almost velvety feel until all the small carbonation bubbles comes into work giving you that sizzling feeling.
O: A very good black IPA that combines the best of two worlds: loads of fresh bitter hops that get gives you that sweet nectar like taste from time to time, and then, plenty of malt giving you a richer experience.

The colour is deep, deep brown (80 ECU), the liquid is clear. The finger thick head is compact and warm brown. Good head retention and some lacing.
The smell is roasted and dry. Some sweet hints of wort. Some smoke and liquorice, rye cereals and pumpernickel. Hints of perfume in the background. It is not very hoppy.
The taste is smooth and a bit dry. It is lighter than expected. Passing notes of American grapefruit hops. Some dry-bitter smooth notes with hints of red berries. The aftertaste got hints of homemade toffee, nuts, citric peels and coffee. The finish is dry with a fine smooth bitterness.
The carbonation is medium to strong, the small bubbles creates some foam in the mouth. The liquid is dry.
Much smoother than I had expected. Perhaps a bit un-complex for the strength, still a highly enjoyable beer.

The brew is pitch black with a tan head that settles leaving good lacing. Good curtains.
Smelling intensely off black coffee, dark chocolate, grape-fruit peel and dried peas.
Starting dry burned wood, strong dark coffee notes, lemon peel, pine resin, intense hop character.
Medium carbonation, sticky and oily, a long dry finish.
A good interpretation of the very hard Black IPA style. A style which too me nearly always is too much.
