Small speciality bottle shop located in the Fyshwick Markets, Canberra.
Currently boasting over 1300 varieties of beer and a respectable selection of wines, spirits, and liqueurs. Staff are knowledgable if you're unsure or just want some help. A bit cramped for space but with a friendly and bustling atmosphere. Beers are sorted by country which helps with quick target acquisition. Prices are what you have to expect for imported craft beers in Australia.
Definitely the best beer shop in Canberra and the surrounding regions; a must-visit in the A.C.T.

First visit to Plonk since they moved within Fyshwick Markets around 3 years ago.
Decent sized shop, mainly with a beer focus, though still a reasonable cider, wine and spirits selection. Seems to fit the Fyshwick markets vibe, nice sort of upmarket, market feel to it with a nice layout combined with haphazard boxes on the floor and high ceilings.
One wall is a wall of shelves stacked full of beers as high as i could reach, with glassware on the shelf above. A couple of the aisles have beer shelves as well as the majority of the fridge. Massive amount of beers, certainly wouldn't doubt their claim that they have over 1,300 beers in stock. Things from Mikkeller, De Molen, random Asian ticks, Cantillon and a good US range.
The glassware selection was also impressive with a wide range from various regions of the world, even having odd things like chopes/mugs as well as t-shirts, books and gift packs. The fridge space has most of their hoppier range within it, though there are still plenty of beers kept at room temperature including more of the stock lines that don't fit into their fridge.
They have 3 beers/cider on for counter-pressure growler fills (Aurora Borealis, Aureus Chrysalis and a Cider for this visit).
The service was good, the staff member happy to grab a ladder to bring down a glass to buy and happy to talk beer and when i mentioned i was from Sydney, talk about his most recent beer trip up there. There was also talk of an online product list being available within 3 weeks to allow for a better mail order service than what currently exists (where you call up blind, not knowing what they stock or what's in stock), however i do recall them talking about bringing in an online shop for about 3 years or more, so i'd probably wait until it is complete before getting too excited.
Prices were a touch high with St Lamvinus at above $32, however it was great to see them stagger out the release of the stock (and i was surprised to see it was a 2011!) so that it does last longer than the week in which it arrives.
The hours are limited by the trading hours of the Fyshwick Markets of which they are within the lockable gates of. They are currently only open on Thursday to Sunday from 8am until 5:30pm, so it can be hard to get to if you are a visitor, however this is certainly one of the better bottleshops on the Eastern Seaboard of Australia and well worth getting in to check out. Highly recommended and a place i always try and get to on each trip to Canberra.

Nice store in the Fyshwick markets in Canberra
Huge range for Canberra. Europe, US, Canada, NZ, and Australia. Strong wine and spirits range also. A lot of hard to find Mikkeller and UK beers. A bit lacking in the US department and current Mikkeller offerings though.
3 Taps being offered for growler options?? Really?? I give. Counter pressure as well.
Small amount of fridge space for beers and most product on open air shelves. Not the most organized, as had to hunt around for a few minutes to find what I was looking for.
Service was a bit poor but will excuse them as they were packed on a Sunday and have had good service from them on previous trips and in phone conversations
Pricing was a bit high as most stuff was higher than Sydney prices are currently so would think the store suffers from a bit of stock not moving.
Hours of operation is not the best but not their fault. markets run from Thursday- Sunday.
Lack of a website and shipping options to Sydney hurt.
Ranking aside, this is one of the best 5 shops in NSW/ ACT. Just below Warners at the bay. Worth the trip in a big way. As long as on a weekend.
Good range and an obviously busy store for the area.

What's not to like about Plonk? This little shop has hidden itself in small quarters at the Fyshwick Markets. The small store, at first purveyors of excellent boutique wines have now transformed themselves into Canberra's best beer store.
I am still amazed at the range of Australian and Imported craft beer being stocked as well as the availability of a number of fully imported, rather than "Brewed under License" imported macros.
The range includes breweries from Australia, NZ, Germany, Belgium, Canada, the USA, the UK and more.
The service offered is also good. Dan, the resident beer geek, has a very good knowledge and is always happy to lend a helping hand or to point out a new arrival to the store. Plonk also does weekly tastings showcasing a different craft brewery each week.
I suppose the only real complaint is that their prices are a bit higher than average which makes them quite expensive given the normal costs in Australia for these products. You are however paying for a better selection, knowledgeable staff and supporting the little guy who is bringing a great offering to Canberra.
