.750 bottle corked and caged with a best before date of : 22 01 03.
This is my first attempt at a beer with some bottle age. The cork popped out of the bottle and hit the ceiling which immediately took away some of my fears.
The tripel is a hazy orange caramel color and has a 2" head with great retention. Not much lacing.
The nose is flowery, vinous, somewhat fruity and perfumy. There is a little mustiness/cork smell.
The taste is delicate fruit, orange/cherry. Sweet/sour. Yeast. Earthiness mixed with the mustiness from the nose. Not at all bad. After the entire 8.5% abv bottle I wonder if the age took away some of the alcohol because generally I would feel some effects but with this one I don't.
There is a chalky tongue coating feeling at first. This tripel still has great carbonation for being 4 or 5 years old. It is smooth easy and fairly blended and balanced.
Very drinkable, not as complex as I had hoped, but I am very pleased with this Belgium beer.
