Bottle (produced on 10 020 11) poured into a Duvel tulip glass.
A- A gentle pour resulted in a 2-finger, off-white, pillowy head. The body was golden and clean with moderate-to-heavy carbonation. The head sustains at about 1/2-finger. A later sediment swirl beefs up the head while adding just a hint of cloudiness to the body. Good sticky spots were left on the glass.
S- Very nice. Green apple peel, black pepper, and a pleasant musty aroma initially. Very subtle, grainy background that boarders on nutty. Pretty much what I'd expect from the style.
T- Much as the aroma suggests. Green apple and spicy, peppery flavors dominate initially. Some refined sugar notes provide a balancing sweetness. Alcohol is well masked when cool, but comes out a little more than necessary with warmth (especially for something under 7%).
M- Pretty smooth. Moderate-to-heavy carbonation and spicy qualities provide a bite. First sips are through a creamy head. The well hidden alcohol is just slightly warm, though it becomes more pronounced as the beer reaches room temperature.
D- It's a good beer. A little rough around the edges compared to some of its counterparts. However, this lends itself as a good night-capper. It's significantly cheaper than some of the other Belgians in the cooler. I'd buy it again.
