Pours a hazy, dark brown color. 1/5 inch head of a tan color. Slight retention and slight lacing. Smells of strong nut, strong pale malt, slight sweet malt, and a hint of hop. Fits the style of an American Brown Ale. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of strong nut, pale malt, slight hop, and a hint of sweet malt. Overall, good feel, and blend.

Took a trip down to Colorado Springs last week, mainly to visit this brewery. Had this one on tap in the tasting room. Poured a nice medium brown color with a light tan head. Aromas of smoked chocolate, roasted malt and roasted nuts. On the palate this one is medium to full bodied (almost stout-like) and very good, with flavors of milk chocolate, caramel and chicory.

On tap at Old Chicago in downtown Colorado Springs.

Poured with a thin tan head. Body is cloudy and and reddish brown, very little lacing.

The nose consists of leafy English hops, assorted non-descriptive nuts and caramel overtones. Smells like a ramped up English mild with extra crystal malt.

The flavor is smaller than expected; the foundation is a roasted malt base over which sits some nicely integrated mild hops (as in the nose, they seem to be of an English variety- Goldings or Fuggles?) are drizzled with caramel. Some roasty flavors compliment the mix.

The mouthfeel is smooth and medium light, and mostly unremarkable. The carbonation provides a nice prickle. Drinkability is good, but for the style it is just ok.

Conclusion: This is an American Brown Ale if I have ever tasted one, I am not sure why this is categorized as an Amber/Red Ale. Anyway, this beer is pretty good, but to be great in this style, you have to do better than pretty good. I would drink it again...
