Nelson's is located on State Street in Erie, Pa. This area is the hot-spot for night life here in Erie. However, most of the bars cator to college kids and therefore don't have good beer selections and/or atmospheres.
This is not the case with the addition of Nelson's.
Atmosphere is great. Dim lighting, nice woodwork and tasteful decor.
Their beer selection is not great, but for the area, I was impressed.
Magic Hat HI.P.A., Sierra Nevada ESB, Sam Smith's Nut Brown, Sam Smith's Oatmeal Stout, Troegs Nugget Nectar, Dogfish 60min, Fuller's, Railbender, and a few others. I guess that they plan to rotate seasonals reguarly too. Needless to say, I had two Nugget Nectars.
The food is fantastic. Several menu items are homemade including their pickles which they then deep fry in a beer batter using the Erie Brewing Company's Railbender and serve up with a chipotle dill ranch. They also have fresh cut fries, which for me is a MUST.
Most of the meats and cheeses on the menu are local and/or homemade. In addition, much of the produce is organic. They have things such as mussels, calamari, pastas, sandwiches, soups, and appetizers.
Nothing on the menu is very expensive either. If you don't like your food a little on the fancy side, you may be wondering what to get, but I'm sure that they would be glad to leave things off if you'd like.
