Appearance: Pours a clear orange golden color with a thick creamy white head made up of small bubbles. There are a few bubbles rising to maintain the head, but not that many. There is some lacing being left on the glass as I choke it down.
Aroma: Dry grainy aroma that has a noticeable skunky element to it. It smells oxidized with a pronounced papery smell to it. There is some hops in here, but it really doesn't help the whole presentation much.
Taste: Well, the flavor is a bit more pleasant than the aroma. The grainy malts rule the flavor profile a well. It is dry, but still maintains a bit of perceptible sweetness on the tongue after drinking. The skunk is not in the flavor as much as it is in the aroma. The finish is dry and chalky, and reminds me a bit of Maalox
Opinion: This is not my favorite beer by any means. I remembered not caring for it some time ago, but since my palate has developed a good bit since then, I figured I would give it another day in court. Well, the jury didn't deliberate more than a minute or so. I still don't like this beer, and I don't know if I am going to be able to finish my current glass...let alone the other half of the bottle. Hmmm...what a dilemma

A little bit better than the average european lager. Nice foam head, bready hop flavor and good aftertaste. Enjoyed it in Strassbourg (Alsace) two years ago.

I just bought one of these in a 65cl swing top for 1.80 Euro at the Monoprix on Place Garibaldi in Nice and took it back to the hotel room to pair with a pan bagnat from the nearest boulangerie in the old town. The bottle didn't actually identify this as Tradition Amber, the bottle simply says Tradition, but I'm putting it here because the color was definitely amber, even deep amber. It looks nothing like a generic eurolager in the glass.
Poured into a one-star hotel water glass, it raised a nice thick head with tight bubbling an a noticeable, persistent audible fizz. The head quieted down in a couple of minutes to the usual white rim with a bit of flotsam on the surface.
The nose is subtle, there's some carmalized barley, some grassy hop, and a bit of clove or generic spice but it doesn't punch you in the face, that's for sure.
Flavor follows the nose: malt, clove, balancing euro hops, pretty well constructed and balanced but nothing outstanding.
In the mouth, there's a bit more body than a typical eurolager but, again, nothing outstanding.
The aftertaste is slightly bitter and the clove-spice notes linger as well. I'd like a little more hoppiness here.
I used to drink a paler version of Fisher in the swing top as a beach beer in the eighties and this version is a little more interesting I think. Overall, this is a nice enough amber lager, but at the same time nothing outstanding. I'm guessing that the negative reviews are a result of this beer not traveling very well, or of taste buds burnt out from West Coast IPAs and Imperial stouts. Pretty good stuff to drink, but nothing Earth shattering or novel. Good/very good value for the price I paid, the swing top is a great idea, I wish more brewers used it.

Wtf is up with the bad reviews of this beer? Obviously a lot of members of this site are hipsters who only like trendy craft beers, not classic traditional-style Euro lagers such as this. Anyway, this is a great refreshing beer with a full-bodied taste and a good bite - I've been a fan since I first bought one in the early 90's at a import beer and liquor/gourmet food market in my former town of Ojai, CA. I just found out that the company went out of business in 2009 and I'm bummed.

Comes out thin, yet amber in color, almost auburn. Didn't make much in the way of head, retention or lace. Aroma was like the color, earthy, metallic.
Taste was unfiltered it seemed. Sediment? Earth? Lacked hops and bitterness. Thin. Not a fan of the style or this representation of it, really did nothing for me, and was expensive to boot. Pass. Would not bang again.
