Poured chilled in ale glass

A: thin head; average brown; no lacing; cool bottle!
S: malty, light, nondescript
T: amber, spicy, mildly hopped; this is a mellower, richer version of a Euro dark ale

Not fantastic; but I was expecting a terrible beer, and it's not that. The bottle has a plastic stopper on it, and it can be reused for all sorts of things, including hot sauce. (375 characters)

Poured from bottle into DFH pint glass.

A - Poured clear amber color with big frothy head that quickly dissipated leaving moderate lacing around the glass.

S - Slight hint of malts, grains and a little earthiness.

T - Sweet malts to start transforming into bready yeast with grains and a slightly earthy bitter finish.

M - Light bodied with high carbonation.

O - Nothing special about this lager. Just an average brew. I would not recommend it. (449 characters)

The Fischer beer pours a nice goldesh brown color with a very thin head.

The smell of the beer is very average. You get a lot of malt and some grain.

I am picking up a good amout of malty buscuit taste, with a little bit of corn.

The mouthfeel is very average, has a lot of carbonation and makes me burp a lot.

Overall this is a solid beer. Not anything special to ride home about, but not bad either. (406 characters)

Nifty looking 12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Mostly bought this because I thought it would make a good vase.

A: Pours with a thin film of fizzy white head that quickly surrenders. Beer itself is a crystal clear bronze color.

S: Dank, wet leaves with a little bit of a field/farmhouse scent.

T: Toasty caramel malt with a sweet biscuit finish, accented by a whisper of dry bitter hops.

M: Medium. Smooth and wet on the end. Carbonation is better than I'd expected given how quickly the head turned tail and ran.

O: Not awful, but there are other, better ambers around the world and I wouldn't exactly invade France for it. (634 characters)

Appearance has a light golden amber color with a fair crisp head and spotty lace. Smell is faint with light adjunct, malt and hop. Taste of light sweet faint cider note having mild hops that finishes dry. Mouthfeel is light with crisp carbonation. Fairly light for the style acting and tasting more like a lager, the bottle does say ale, but BA style says dark lager which I would agree more with. (397 characters)

pours a dark yellow to light orange beer with a short head which dissipated fast. Lots of carbonation. It smelled of wheat, citrus, slight hop, brown sugar. It tasted of an easy going amber no bite just a bit of fruitiness with some malt, yeast and grainy. This beer is slammed by the members of BA but I think it taste better than beers like Abita Amber. It's a very drinkable beer, made for the summer. (404 characters)

Pours a clear light orange-yellow color with a 1 inch off-white head that fades to a thin film on the top of the beer. Random thin rings and spots of lace form on the glass on the drink down. Smells of biscuits and skunk. Taste is actually pretty decent though with sweet malt/biscuit and a bit of a citrus zest hop presence on the finish. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a prickly yet smooth mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty average beer with a slightly bad smell and a slightly good taste. I probably wouldn't get this one again. (551 characters)

A- Pours essentially a light amber, with a thick off white head that disappates very quickly.
S- Smell is a bit earthy, with just a bit of a grainy and minerally character to it.
T- Initially grainy, but there is a little depth to it, with some toasted notes. There is a mineral character in the finish though that is a bit off putting.
M- Lighter than I would like. Almost nothing in the finish.
O- A decent beer, but nothing memorable. There are worse, but there's many more better in the style. (497 characters)

I had out of a big bottle with a flip-top plastic cork. No idea the actual volume.
A. Brown and clear with a good deal of bubbles. A big bubbly white head with good lacing.
S. Cider scent with malt.
T. The taste gets progressively worse. Kind of like a cidery PBR. The first taste is nice, smooth and malty. It's the aftertaste that really detracts from this brew. It's not horrible by any means, but it's a poor tasting cider, and I don't like cider or very malty beverages.
M. It leaves a cidery aftertaste that is kind of sour. (531 characters)

Sampled on May 8, 2011. The pour is amber with a quick big head that fades. Right off the bat I get a skunky aroma but it soon becomes sweet and malty. The thin body brings out a very sugar-sweet, caramel malt taste with a hint of hops coming up behind. Many years ago I drank this one from time to time before I discovered good craft beer. Now it just comes across as boring. (376 characters)

This beer is one of those where I just needed one more to fill up a 6 pack on a beer run. I saw the Fischer and it caught my eye. The bottle reminded me of a Grolsch bottle just a different color. Anyway the I poured this beer out and it was a little darker in color that I thought it'd be. The aromas were of malts and other grains, kind of earthy. The taste was pretty boring, tasted kind of like a regular lager but on a weaker note. This beer just wasn't impressive at all to me. I've only had maybe 1 or 2 French beers that were good and this wasn't one of them. (567 characters)

A-Pours a clear amber color with a just a little bit of white head.

S-Faint toasty malt with some musty almost skunky aromas.

T-The slightest bit of toasty malt with a faint hint of bitterness on the finish.

M-Thin bodied and watery with moderate carbonation with a crisp finish.

D-A pretty tasteless, very macro-like in body and flavor, which is not a good thing. (368 characters)

This beer poured with a wimpy head and weak soapy head. The brew looks thin and watery and the head just look like someone blended some water in a blender with some soap, no density. Smelled okay, it smells of nuts and sweet malt. Tasted like the smell which wasn't bad but it was terribly thin and weak. The taste was nutty and uninspiring. (341 characters)

Found in a 1 pt. 6 oz. swing-top bottle at Argonaut Liquors in Denver's Capitol Hill.

Pours a dark amber with an adequate head that disappears shortly, but leaves behind some lacing and noticeable carbonation.

Smells faintly of grain, slight citrus and maybe toffee.

Tastes a lot like it smells, wheat and malt flavors with a hint of toffee and orange/grapefruit. Feels like a real beer in the mouth.

I drank the whole bottle in one sitting; that should tell you something about drinkability. I'm also adding half a point here because I LOVE these swing-top bottles; if you don't want to drink all your beer now, you can take it with you and drink it later. (661 characters)

A- Caramel copper color, patchy lace with little retention.

S- Faint smell of malt with touch of earthy, musty hope

T- Sweet malts, honey and caramel characteristics with a musty tone of hops in the back. Biscuits.

M- Light, crisp and refreshing

D- Easy to drink, just plain jane stuff. (290 characters)

A: pale amber, hue of orange. trace head, patchy lacing.

S: faint malt, bread, grain

T: sweet grain, hint of caramel and bread, mild bitter finish.

M: light body, low/med. carbonation, prickly on the tongue, dry finish

D: Ok, I never knew that France even made beer, let alone had it available at my local store, until I read it on this site. Thought I would give it a go; love their wine and cheese. This is just an average Euro lager. Do not seek it out, but it's not awful. (482 characters)

Poured into a small 6 oz. sampling glass.

A=Light amber color with frothy head...very appealing.

S=All three tries resulted in a musty smell, like wet laundry, combined with hops.

T=When first tasted at about 40º, I found this to be a bit sour, with a bitter aftertaste, combined with a white grape juice like sweetness. It did not improve while I waited...in fact, it may have gotten even sweeter.

M=Good...similar to an American Adjunct Lager or ale.

D=Average at best...sweet/sour grape makes me want to cut this with food, almost like you would do with a wine...is it me, or do all of Fischer's offerings remind me of wine? (633 characters)

A frothy, two-finger head with a silky sheen covers this Alsatian ale, which is crystal clear and a deep honey-amber color. Good retention and lacing, with steady streams of bubbles from the bottom. The aroma has a slight herbal aroma at first, but dissipates rapidly.

First sips reveal a clean, fresh flavor with little depth but decent grain presence and a bit of a floral accent. Ample carbonation makes it easy to swallow, but also makes it seem a little watery. A light hops hit at the end with lingering butterscotch notes completes the impression.

Perfectly acceptable for washing down some pomme frittes, but not a brew for haute cuisine. (648 characters)

Pours a light caramel color - the head fizzed out

(The first time I had this was June 9, 2010. This was what I was drinking when the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup! I was too distracted by the win to care about what I was drinking.
A few days ago I tried it again to give it an official review.)

There was not too much to the aroma. It smelled very basic.

The taste was also very basic. There was nothing too outlandish. It tasted very mellow and simple. I found myself searching for flavors. There was a slight sour taste, but that could have been my imagination. The malts were on the light side with a slightly toasted flavor.

M/F & D: fairly carbonated. Easy to drink mainly due to the lack of intensive flavors

Conclusion: it was worth trying once. I might buy this again if were on sale at a store with limited selection. For the most part the taste was forgettable. This beer will probably be more meaningful to me not because of its flavor, but the circumstance in which I first had it. (1,001 characters)

Live review. Spotted this for cheap in the store on the way home, thought I'd give it a shot.

Reasonable lacing throughout the session.

Not much on the nose.. seems like that typical macro smell. Smells metallic for some reason.

Crisp on the palate. Sweet as well. Not detecting a lot of hop action, but the malts are surprising.

Light mouthfeel. Just enough there to remind you that you are drinking a beer.

It's drinkable. The smell is truly off putting, but other than that I'd say I'd drink another. But I probably wouldn't. (534 characters)

Poured from tall flip-top bottle into tall clear glass. Thick white creamy 2-3 finger head subsides to 1/4" blanket. Nice clear amber color with little bubbling. Very little discernable bouquet, mostly light earthy barley malt aroma - not much help for the pallate. Mouthfeel is good, , light-body, quaffalble, thirst-quenching. Taste is fairly simple barley soup with carbonation and decent bittering balance. A simple French session beer and nothing more. Good as a dinner or snack lubricant since it has no real over-powering qualities of its own. (550 characters)

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #32 (Sep 2009):

A tall, bubbly froth leads quickly to a thin lacing as the head dissipates; crystal-clear amber color. Grainy, sweet aroma with some cooked veggie and creamed corn in the back of the nose. Smooth with a creamy, moderately sized body. Bit of carbonic twang above the malt and hops; maltiness is grainy with a grassy and almost animal-feed-like character. This beer screams "EURO LAGER!" Hops just come across with some bitterness and a faded herbal flavor. Finishes with a faint caramel note before things go a tad dry.

In a pinch, this beer works for a quick lunch beer. While there is nothing too complex here, it does stay drinkable, even for a beer that is brewed with additions of glucose, corn, caramel and ascorbic acid. Come on, they are not German! (814 characters)

A=Pours with an absolutely massive head, but it quickly dissipates. Wonderful lacing, though. The brew itself is a beautiful copper color.

S= A sweet smell emits from the glass, a bit of hops undertone with a bit of a grassy smell to it, also the malts are quite strong.

T=It was smooth sailing up until this point. The taste, while not bad, is very weak. A decent level of bitterness hits the tongue. it tastes like wild plants, grass, with a refreshing bit of sweetness coming through, and some hop bitterness creating a so-so finish

M-It's a bit off. It feels watery in the mouth, and the aftertaste is too watery for my taste.

D= It goes down easily, but I wouldn't want to drink more than one of these in a night.

For the price I don't regret buying it, but I don;t think I'll be picking this one up again anytime soon. I wouldn't mind picking another one up in a few months just for a change of pace, but it definitely is not on the top of my list. (960 characters)

Poured into a pint glass, clear amber color with a formiddable bubbly white head. Good looking pint!

The smell is faint of malt with a little hint of breadiness. Nithibg special on the nose.

The taste is more of the same, faint. Not much to this one. Undermalted and kinda boring.

This was a fixture of mine at the local beer bar when I was learning craft beer, but upon revisit there's nothing to get excited about. (421 characters)
