First and foremost this is not a beer bar but more a nice restaurant that also serves good beer (and wine with an impressive selection of over 100 bottles.)

A lovely old building, the place has been open since 1914, located along a country road on the northern outskirts of Pittsburgh. A inviting and warm interior was especially nice on the cold, rainy day we visited. A multi roomed interior with nice decor and a pleasant feel. We sat in the cozy bar room at a window side table for two.

Five quality taps--Bass, Spaten, New Holland Dragon's Milk, Yuengling Lager and Penn Pilsener. In addition to the taps a nice selection of 40 bottles with about 30 being craft/micros are available.

The focus here is on food and what fine food they have! I had an AWESOME mushroom and pasta dish and C had a wonderfully done almond encrusted fish entree. All was delicious.

Service was great...didn't hurt that we named dropped and let the bar manager know we are personal friends with the New Holland rep....who had just been there a week prior!

All in all a very pleasant and inviting establishment. While I would not recommend The Pines Tavern solely as a beer destination I would whole heartedly recommend it for as a place to have lunch or dinner and have a nice beer accompany your selection.
